Nakamura loses 4-0 and insinuates that GM Supi uses a engine

  • About two weeks ago Nakamura played Supi for four games on chess.com and lost all of them. In the end of the match, Nakamura made several insinuations that Supi was cheating, saying that it was weird, that Supi was probably with 99% accuracy in all games, he even check the accuracy of the last game and when he saw that Supi accuracy was 93%, just changed subject and kept insinuating that he might be cheating.
Nakamura was still complaining and then Supi was warned about it and came to Nakamura chat to say that it was not cool to do that. Nakamura didn't reply, but stopped talking about it.
It wasn't the first time that Nakamura accused Supi, back in 2015 Supi beat Nakamura in a tournament on ICC, Hikaru formally accused Supi of cheating and Supi was eliminated from the tournament and banned from ICC. At the time, several GMs came in defense of Supi, showing that the game was full of mistakes on both sides and complaining that Supi was eliminated and banned before the game was even analyzed. Later, ICC unbanned Supi, but never apologized or emitted a note about it. This is covered in a post of GM Leitao:
    rafaelleitao.com/trapaca-no-x... (portuguese).
The four games played a couple weeks ago by Nakamura and Supi were thoughtfully analyzed by Brazilian streamers and players, in the first Supi was trying to force a draw by perpetual and Hikaru made a huge blunder trying to avoid it. In the other, the American GM ended up playing bad and hung up material. In only one of these games the Brazilian plays with high accuracy, but he does not make any suspicious "computer moves", it is all very standard until Hikaru blunders.
Besides the games by itselves not proving that Supi was doing anything wrong, it should be taken in consideration that Supi is also a streamer on Twitch, he plays on chess.com with his account LPSupi (with 3k rating) live in front of thousands of people, explaining every move and detailing his plans in advance. He is also the current Brazilian Classical Chess Champion, using the same style of aggressive chess on the board. More than that, he won the
Chess.com Immortal Game contest for a game against Carlsen, where he made a queen sacrifice that even engines failed to see. On the occasion, instead of accusing Supi, Carlsen complimented him for the "nasty" move.
    www.chess.com/news/view/chess...
The most important thing is, when you are as famous as Nakamura, you can't use your platform to accuse someone without any proof. I thought I should share this here on reddit, because Hikaru must be held accountable for his act, even though he probably will never admit that he was being a sore loser and apologize, people must know that it happened.
On the other hand, Supi said that he just wants to move on and blocked Nakamura on chess.com.

Worst performance from Hikaru on multiple levels!
I regularly follow Hikaru's streams, but this is his worst performance on the board and off the board. He made obvious blunders and showed poor sportsmanship! Disgusting would be a better term to describe this.
Hikaru made some obvious blunders in the first 20 moves which makes it easy for any experienced player, not to mention a GM, to simply exploit these mistakes and have a high accuracy in those 20 moves within which Hikaru resigned.
To make things even worse, the accusations are therefore at the level of little crybaby, simply terrible sportsmanship rarely seen by any professional player.
I wish the games continued to see Hikaru get adopted, something the coward conciously ran away from as he saw this scenario unfold.
Feel ashamed Hikaru! You are a bad ambassador of this game. It hurts me to say that I've loved your streams but you need to deal with your ego and accept the fact that you'll never be the top, neither as a chess player, but even less with what it means to be a good human being. A "humble champion" is something that will always stay an unknown to you!
A public apology to Supi is probably the best you can do at this moment.
However, you've lost a follower nevertheless.

I agree with you. I'm Brazilian and GM Supi is by far the best in Brazil (current champion) and one of the best in Latin America. He has no reason to use outside help, Hikaru himself assumes he's commenting on blunders in the match. The insinuations of using the engine are ridiculous, you can NEVER do that, it's very lacking in character, if Hikaru doesn't have proof, he couldn't do it live, in front of 20 thousand people, it's very ugly. He needs psychological help to deal with his extremely inflated ego.

In my opinion, that's a shit attitude from Hikaru, because Supi is a great player, won the last brazilian championship, is improving his rating rn. You saying that he's cheating is taking all his efforts that he did on his entire life and at that match and dumping into the trash, also Hikaru always does that when he loses, the guy just don't accept losing. If you want to accuse someone, first have proofs. I'm not on Supi's side 'cause I don't know the guy personally, and I can't tell what he could do just for promoting himself. I recall he said not caring helped him destress and the internet money also helped him perform with less stress in real chess. I'm starting to wonder if other GMs need to model part of their training after Hikaru after seeing that Grand Prix. I'm open-minded, so I'm actually thinking Hikaru might've just pioneered a new approach/theory/perspective. The other GMs appeared way too stressed and rigid as I watched Hikaru win and repeat that he really doesn't care and isn't stressed. I'm starting to believe he isn't just joking.

Hikaru isn't a joke, he's a super GM and way above Supi's current level when it comes to classical, rapid and blitz in the long run, most days. His performance at the Grand Prix is something his haters will never forget for sure.
However, he is a prima donna and this toxic behavior is the very something that got him all the haters he's collected through the years. Accusing people without proof is already bad, but not even apologizing when proved wrong is just sad. He's way too proud, even more than most super GMs. Here he played poorly and there are too many GMs that could have punished his blunders. He did this in 2016 and got him banned and afterwards when it was reversed cause it was bs he apologized. He’s fond of this. He does it to people he thinks of as lesser than him. Sore loser and an egomaniac.

Naka plays h4 yo distract the Queen and win the bishop, but Supi just threatening mate in 1 and Naka has to defend. Funny that in this game Naka saw immediate that he blundered and confessed he is playing horribly, but at the end prefers to accuse Supi of cheating. In the next game he saw again he blundered 😮

He checked the review and the first moves he thought were perfect were blunders 😂 then the whole chat was "investigating"
I actually was looking to find that one, but I forgot the name of the opponent and I actually thought it was this one but then I saw this was a year ago

Although he has a favorable score against Supi, Carlsen has already tasted his poison. On more than one occasion. And always with a queen's sacrifice!

And yet the conclusion he comes to at the end (out of frustration) is that Supi is cheating 😂😂. Because it cant be that he's playing like crap right? 😂 Noo, supi is not allowed to think." Immediately he's using an engine if he takes a long time to think! Its not me playing like crap guys! Even though i have been crying about playing like crap every two seconds and making blunders all over the place! It cant be me! Im too perfect (even though i am playing like crap)!"🤣 Typical cry baby Hikaru with massive ego.

It is hard to say how good this dude is in blitz as his OTB rating is only 2378 but that is a result of him simply not play in any tournaments. Why doesn't he? There is a World blitz championship every single year why doesn't he enter? I am sure he is grossly underrated at 2378, but he could dispel all doubt playing with decent competition and get a rating corresponding to his online rating. I can see why he attracts suspicion.

Because CBX(Brazilian Chess Confederation) is a joke, they call the people they want to represent Brazil in International events; they do tournaments without previous announcements, and some brazilian GMs say openly CBX is a mafia. And I think Supi really doesn't care about blitz, he just try hard in classical, he said many times he doesn't care about losing blitz and rapid games, at least online.

Naka can be a nasty piece of work, never respects his opponents. Some of these GMs don't have the exposure to be invited to major tournaments so they do use actual preparation on casual online blitz matches (they have nothing to lose anyway).
However it is also possible that he was cheating using a smart set-up. We can never know.

    • @edenjordan5165

There is literally nothing to suggest that Supi had cheated, Hikaru saying that 93 accuracy is suspicious when himself does more than that on average days is ridiculous.
He just has a grudge against Supi for some reason, it's not even the first time he's accused him.
