    Great color development with the pigments, anxious to see how that comes out. I use a smoker with an external temp control, so far so good and have the fire ball on top just in case. Cheers, Craig

      The last smoker I bought ended up smashed with a sledge hammer. I was extremely mad when I walked in and saw the temp was above 300 degrees! I do think the temp controllers are the way to go, I don't think they'll run away like that having an external controller hooked up. I'm just glad I have access to that lab oven, that thing is amazing!!

    Kinda makes me wish I still lived in Georgia so I could send you some bristlecone pine cones. They're gigantic and all over the place down there.

      Not to worry, I've got plenty of giant pinecones up here in Tahoe. I've made some pretty neat blanks with the big sugar pine cones I've snagged from up there :) I appreciate it though

    If you need to dry out pine cones in bulk try using a cheap dehydrator. Should work pretty good.

      Hey Peter, I'm glad to hear you're enjoying the videos. I post pics of the blanks we make on the livestreams on Facebook and Instagram. I know it's kind of disappointing not being able to see the results right away. My Instagram handle is @nvwoodwerks and my facebook page is NV Woodwerks as well

    I suspect some have the internal cap you peal off stuck in the top. Looks like white and orange are solid and the others are translucent or not enough. All mixes in nicely.

    Zac ..emailed you about scales, mine takes to long to give weight, do you use a fast measuring scale ?? which one ?

    • @ZacHiggins

      I totally understand the frustration. It's tough to find one that measures accurately and registers quick. I've been pretty happy with the ones I use, they are accurate to .5 grams and can handle up to 3000 grams. I have links to them on my Tools I Use page on my website: nvwoodwerks.com/tools/

    Why do you heat up your molds before casting your blanks?

    • @ZacHiggins
      @ZacHiggins  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Resins like heat, so they flow out better and it can help cure the resin. If you live in a humid area, it will also flash off any moisture on the surface.

    Divine pigments "have got some really cool colors" except they explode when uncapped. That's definitely not cool.

      LOL Yeah, they were under pressure! It happens with most of the dyes I've used. I'd recommend puncturing it with a pin first to minimize the explosion. I'm digging these bright colors from Divine Pigments. I'll be having some fun mixing up some cool combos :)
