    Nice and quiet! I've got the SH86 two-stroke which has a three-prong mulching blade and does a really great job at chopping things up. I think these leaf vacuums often work best in combination with a leaf blower to push everything into a pile before mulching - otherwise you spend a lot of time walking around sucking up leaves one at a time. I got the SH86 because it can do both.

      Tend to agree there. Certainly if you have a fairly big area it would be advised to collect either with a mower or push leaves to a pile. But for areas around the house, under hedges, borders and paths this tool works really well.

    I've had this machine for about a month now. At first I wasn't sure if I liked it. I've found that it's great in certain situations. I maintain some housing estates and this machine is great for cleaning the debris and leaf litter that collects alongside kerb stones, and clearing storm water grates. In that situation I've found it to be a big time saver, and safer. You can walk along the edge of the pavement with out having to stand in the road, the low noise of the machine means you can hear any coming traffic too. The nozzle allows you to usually get to the kerb next to parked cars. It's also, good on new build estates where the trees are still small and only a scattering of leaves. Good for clearing leaves of gravel landscaping. It's a bit of a 'nice to have', not a 'need to have' machine. It does look more professional in certain situations, such as clearing the kerbs of roads than going around with a broom etc. It's not for clearing under large mature trees in Autumn, there are faster ways. It also struggles with certain species, that drop leaves with a long stalk attached, the shredder doesn't deal with these very well and the impeller housing can get jammed up with them; which is a pain to unblock.

    I think it works quite good on the nooks and crannies and around the borders but in the open garden you might as well use a leaf blower and then pick it up by hand

      Or blow it on the grass/concrete and pick it up with a collector mower.

    I currently have the Ryobi version of this tool. I simply wanted a battery-operated way to mulch leaves so they'd break down faster (I dump them back in the hinterland of my backyard). I didn't necessarily buy it thinking it would be a useful way to pick the leaves up, I just wanted to mulch them. Well, I have been shocked how useful it really is! As others have commented, along edges and nooks and crannies. In English ivy areas. Places where blowing is less efficient or destructive of mulch and damage-prone plantings. Anyhow, the reason I'm here is Ryobi build quality. Have already broken the wheels twice, and the bag barely lasted the season, so I just want a higher quality version of the same thing. BUT - as another comment mentioned, the mulching ratio looks very unimpressive in this video! The Ryobi claims 16:1 and I honestly think that's about right! Hopefully the new Ego offering will be the ticket...
    FWIW, I agree with another comment that recommends blowing into a pile first. Or I use rows.

    That's quite nice, I especially like the low noise level on it. I've never really been sold on these hand held blower/vacuum conversion type things though, I much prefer the wheeled chipper vac type machines.

    I’ve just bought one of these a few weeks ago.
    I was previously using a SH 86 and then I ended up buying a SHA 56 out of the AK range just because at the time I didn’t realise an AP model would be coming out.
    I’m not sure what it is about the 140 but I don’t feel like it evens collects as much in one load as the 56 does. The performance is fine but it just feels like you’ve get nothing in the bag. I’m going to dig the 56 back out sometime to properly compare

    Decent mower or a super wide rake and it's done in a jiffy. It's getting rid of the waste the problem is. I mulch the leaves and blow them in a pile and collect them or leave them depending on the grass or lawn I'm doing.

  • @tgsgardenmaintenance4627

    I have the 86, which I find very good. I never use it on borders as it sucks up mulch and small stones. I do like the look of the new bag and new attachment points. I do think the mulching blade needs to be a bit bigger though! I find on my 86 that the plastic fan blades degrade quite a lot, making it pretty naff as a blower!

    Really nice demo of the Stihl and it is a handy tool for small clean ups in flowerbeds or around the house.
    Could you try out some wheeled/Walk behind vacs? I got two Billy Goats they are amazing. I would love to see the new KV 601 in Action if you could test it.

  • @waynelewis5656
    @waynelewis5656 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    That looked like it took a lot longer than it needed to. You should compare the speed compared to using a leaf blower to blow them into a big pile then using some leaf grabbers to put them into the bag. I'd guess it's a lot quicker with the blower.

    I have the Stihl 2 stroke and has always been terrible for these types of jobs, it constantly blocks.
    In my experience the Echo is far more superior less blockages and shreds up much bigger items still into small pieces.
    Love Stihl but do t think they have done as well as other brands.
    Still loving the channels guys doing a great job.

    • @lefaucheur7708
      @lefaucheur7708 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Surely, it's not the best way to use it, as shown in the video. One way to use it more efficiently is to first blow the leaves into a pile and then use the vacuum. This could be faster. Is it worth the price? Not really. Anyway, I use my lawnmower to collect most of the leaves, and it does a better job of shredding than this vacuum.

  • @djtechnique
    @djtechnique 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Don’t see the point. My cordless Stihl lawnmower would do the same job in a fraction of the time. The only benefit had to be removing leaves from areas the mower can’t get too (borders, flower beds)

    Weak overpriced battery garbage yet again. Just open up the superficial insides of a T542i and a T540 (their price too) and you'll see the difference in materials between the battery power stuff and the 2 strokes. These gentlemen are taking advantage of the green movement for max profits while selling flimsy tools with no guarantee of lasting 40+ years like their old stuff. Why aren't they making their top of the line electrics with magnesium to save even more weight compared to glass reinforced plastic? Yea, thats why. $$$$
