The first time I saw this episode, I recall Matt going: you two, what are you doing? And I was SO sure that sam would be out of breath and yell: hurry grog. They are right behind us!
Returning to the group with guards chasing them is EXACTLY what I saw coming.
These scenes all but confirm that we need a retelling of Vox Machina's adventures by Grog.

I love how *_NEVER ONCE_* do Grog NOR SCALAN consider “Hey, maybe this is a guard of the guy we wanted to talk to!” Haha
Still haven't seen the full run of Campaign 1 episodes, so I'm not clear when these two started acting under the assumption that the Vasselheim Bastion guards were out to get them. Did it start before this?

@@davidm1926 This is a call back to an earlier episode when Grog and Sam's alt character, Taryon Darrington, inadvertently attacked two guards and left them unconscious, covered in ale in some guy's shop.
Just remember one has a low wisdom score and the other has low intelligence. ...but most likely they didn't think of it.
Well yeah but also grog and taryon beat two gaurds within an inch of their lives because big robo guy mistook orders and they didnt feel like dealing with it

It's so nice to imagine Grog squatting down and hunched over telling Scanlan a secret and getting really excited while telling it.
I like that Grog's wish would be to be immortal. With his limited intelligence he must be like a child trying to comprehend death.
I remember someone trying to derail their DM’s campaign when they weren’t getting what they wanted, so they decided to start drawing cards at random. Problem was, the first card they drew ended up getting rid of the deck itself, preventing a TPK.
The cards new what was up and justed peace out before they ruin the fun XD

Grog missing Scanlan's first reference to the hat nicely mirrors Tary missing Grog's first reference to distraction back when they beat up the guards. Both funny.

I always like to think that grog got his wish for immortality and he spends that time reading books to kids at the library.
I love that they're going off to get 1 wish each but the guy didn't even have 2 wishes left, he rolled 2 when he got 1d3 wishes and used one to become a lord, when he ran off he had one left!
Travis and Sam's relationship is just so great!
One of the funniest 10 minutes in the series.
There are funnier single moments for sure, but these 10 minutes were hilarious from start to finish

I love this scene but I just realized that the guards were attacked by Doty, not Grog, they were already unconscious when Doty brought them into the shop.
The guards were tailing them. They spoke to Taryon, Taryon called grog and doty his servants. They got suspicious and started tailing

Absolutely. They were all referring to the incident with Tary, Grog and Doty when Doty beat up two guards and Grog and Tary tried to cover it up.

...Yes, or you could draw one of the many bad cards. And if this is the version 5 deck then most of the good cards have a bad slant to them. The deck of many things is also called the "Breaker of Games" as is often does just that.

free wishes no consequences
The deck of many things, can be a full 52 deck of cards to just a scant number of 13. To be blunt, there is normally around 50% of both good or bad cards, Plus likely one extra worst one. The deck can not be tricked, fooled, rigged, and re-drawn/discarded. Once the player tells the DM the number of cards they draw, that is also the amount. You can as a DM allow a player to make the "I just quickly draw from the Deck of Many things" line into a random set amount of cards. [Panic draws are just, what the DM thinks on what works, mostly it can be the classical 5 hand or half of them.] Mostly in cases where a player might be in a horrable danger or gonna die.
The deck is pure random and ment to be that. The Monkey Gift or Monkey Paw.

I would wish for another DOMT but with only wish cards.
Granted: Unfortunately "Wish Card" isn't a valid card in the Deck of Many Things, so they just have the word "Wish" on them.
It could be a monkey’s palm deck, some cards grant you the wish, but in a twisted way
Anyone else think Matt may have had this happen to keep the crew from getting a wish :)? Putting that one guard in Grog & Scanlan’s path?
If I recall correctly, in either the Fireside Chat or the Campaign End Talks Machina, Matt said that he actually did just have the guard roll perception just in case, and got a nat 20.
Even without the guard fiasco, there'd still be other issues in coercing a Wish out of someone, so I'd doubt they'd get it anyway.

The problem is the Lord of the Quadroads only had 2 wishes, used one to become a Lord of the Quadroads, and only has ONE LEFT. Also, he could have used that wish already.
How'd Travis roll a -1 if his Cha isn't below 10?
He has a neg penalty to all his rolls because of the card he pulled...IIRC
I think he accidentally applied the Eurayle card to ability checks rather than saving throws? Good trade off since Grog doesn't get to do much outside of combat
