- 'Dancing in the Dark'...Classic elegant dance scene from 1953 movie Band Wagon. Fred Astaire and Cyd Charisse find romance in New York Central Park, dancing in the dark.
Beegie Adair usually plays jazz piano but her romantic version of "Dancing in the Dark" is so good, it's a must for this video.
This track is from her 2002 album 'I'll Take Romance'.
The original movie soundtrack was by Conrad Salinger.
The song was originally written by Arthur Schwartz in 1931.

Who taught these very talented stars to dance? Danny Kaye, Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire were the best of the best dancers. This rendition of Dancing in The Dark is delightful and so romantic. Beegie Adair very talented Pianist! I must say the wardrobe designers of this era were creative and talented also. I was born in 1953 and hard to believe this was a beautiful movie 67 years ago! Technology of today makes this even better to enjoy now!!

A classic scene that is so brilliantly done!! I'm willing to give $100 to any couple who decides to perform these dance moves while walking in the city park today. Sadly performance like this couldn't be seen in any contemporary Hollywood movie today 🙄

It must have been a tremendous pleasure to each of them to partner with someone as talented as yourself. It would be a rare, rare thing at that skill level. Some of Fred's other dance partners didn't hold a candle to Cyd. They were plenty good, but not extraordinaire. A lot of them had the skill and the experience but they just don't match the magic and pizazz of these two, each in their own right.

Let me introduce this fine old queen of piano.
She's an old lady now, 81 in December, who still plays the "Great American Songbook Standards" as well as Arthur Rubinstein played the classics. (Or she plays piano as well as Fred and Cyd could dance.)
Steinway & Sons (they make Steinway concert pianos) sometimes honour great pianists with the title "Steinway Artist"... rare for popular song or jazz pianists. Beegie has that honour.
You obviously know and like the Arthur Schwartz standard "Dancing in the Dark" so you probably know and like other songs from the Great American Songbook.
Here are a few others played by Beegie in her very smooth style. She seems to respect the composer's intent better than any other pianist I can name.

The expression of the dancers face is the only thing I didn't like.... Too formal, too serious!! For me the facial expression of the dancers is important. But apart of that, the music and the dance were gorgeous. Really dreamy.
I disagree with you. The facial expressions are appropriate for the setting in which the dance and music are performed, sensual and dramatic.
