    Yes I’ll buy one I was just going to buy a fenix 5 plus but now I’ll wait. I’m 50 years old and over the years I’ve had a few watches that cost over $800 because look as well as function is important to me when it come to something like a watch Something you can keep on all the time , work gym dinner

      Alot of haters whinging about Garmin on here. I have a Fenix 5X best watch I have ever owned. Long bty life. Excellent features. And because I am 6ft and lift. It does not look out of place on my arm. I think alot of little men with big ego's struggle with a large watch.

    Fair review Eric - I am a serious sail boat racer and the sailing watch appeals to me because it does not have the other BS that confuses the user interface. It also interfaces with my Garmin instruments making this a significant upgrade to what was previously available. A simplified interface in a heads up cockpit intensive environment is much more useful. Mistakenly switching to my heart rate monitor when I am converging with 20 5 ton boats at 10 knots on a starting line has justified throwing a $700 sports watch overboard. $1500 to $2500 for a watch that complements my $30K instrument set is no problem if it works well. Garmin's advertising further implies that each of my crew could have one. It would help for sail trimmers and tacticians. For professional pilots/helmsmen the watches to date have been hokey toys. This series might finally be suitable to those that are serious about their game.

    Not a mistake at all, Garmin wants to be more premium... It's the only sportwatch company that could really do this open at the market

    Thanks for the useful review.
    As a pilot flying big commercial a/c and small Pipers and Cessnas, a couple of points. The Garmin Aviator is pretty useless on a 747. I have everything I need to operate, and don’t need extra distractions. Light a/c flying may have some use, but since it really needs the expensive Garmin Pilot app to get the best from the watch then I would prefer to use SkyDemon and a cheap and reliable digital watch.
    I cycle (road and MTB) and don’t like a heavy watch on my wrist. It shakes about and is annoying as well as probably not doing the watch any favours. My cheap little Casio is far better. I use a Garmin 820 on the bike. It is excellent most of the time, but is somewhat prone to buggy software issues. My first 820 died after only a couple of years, and a pair of Garmin Vector power metres failed first time out, so I’d be a bit wary of Garmin quality.
    I’m very fortunate to be able to afford a Marq Aviator, but I won’t because it really doesn’t make sense for me. I suspect they will sell to people for whom the latest gadget is their heart’s desire, and who may like show off their latest toys.
    I agree with your assessment that the value of these watches will be very limited in say 5 years. Hey! They won’t even be a useful door stop! 😄

      Yeah, a little frustrating! If these would have been an update to the Fenix series with Fenix prices, I would be excited. But now I’m just like: meh?

    Also, the resolution is the same as my Vivoactive 3. I happen to like the always on screen and it's resolution. But, should they have had a more future proof screen with higher resolution? At this price point, I would say yes

  • @phillipsos

    I would be willing to buy the athlete model if on sale buy about 25%. Fitness is big goal for me and my Amazfit Stratos 2 is dying with dumb updates that have bricked the watch for weeks now. I am also into hiking and car racing so perhaps I'll just miss out on those secondary pursuits somewhat hmmm.

    • @philipswart8905
      @philipswart8905 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      you can still do hiking with the athlete, has all the functions of the Fenix 5 plus series

    Eric, as always great review! Garmin is obviously targeting the people that are "super serious" about their data, so their market segment will be small. I am not a Garmin fan, but I hope that this project goes well for them.

    Nice video, I'm love it, Is frustrating to see the same optical heart rate sensor, I hope they make a new version soon, however MARQ collection is too expensive but i think there is people that will buy it

    • @TechyAgent
      @TechyAgent  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh I’m sure that there will be people that will buy it. I just don’t think it’s a smart business move because I don’t think very many people will buy it. I’ve got a friend who is a commercial airline pilot, and never once has he wanted a watch like this. He simply uses a Garmin Vivosmart HR!

  • @TheHitteam
    @TheHitteam 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I wonder if they change the back optical HR cover from plastic material to glass or ceramic material like Apple Watch as the watch cost at that high price tag as smart sport watch?

  • @philipswart8905
    @philipswart8905 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Don't think its a mistake at all, Tag Heuer brought the Connect series out that doesn't come close to the Garmin Marq series with around the same price tag if not more. I can see that as a Pilot, Captain, or F1 driver these definitely have a place in the market and would attract some of those personalities. I've not come across a fitness watch that is more satisfying than the Garmin Fenix series, and i have tried them all, from Apple, Suunto, Polar and TomTom. Always go back to Garmin

    • @philipswart8905
      @philipswart8905 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      And i will be getting the Marq Athlete. My only concern would be is that it will lose its value once bought like most gadgets these days. If it can retain its value for at least 3 years once bought, id say its worth buying, otherwise just invest in the Fenix 5 Plus or wait for the next generation to come out.

  • @ArtzFenix
    @ArtzFenix 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Phil and Luciano prove that if you release a “Lexus” version of your product people will want it. But I agree with Brian that Garmin really needs to innovate its tech (screens and sensors) if they want me to upgrade.

  • @memphisreines

    Now has the Phoenix 5X plus has gone down on price because of this new release?

  • @thisandthat5757
    @thisandthat5757 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For that price it better:
    1. Have a heart rate monitor as good as a chest strap monitor.
    2. Does EVERYTHING the Fenix 5X plus does, plus the ECG of apple watch, plus the BP of the samsung galaxy active.
    3. Have the best touch screen color display on the market.
    4. Last at least 3 days with extensive use GPS and second by second HR monitoring.
    5. Has mobile conncetivity.
    6. Enables languages and maps from around the globe.
    If it does, and those are all legitamte requests, I'd purchase one on release.
    But whom am I kidding, this is Garmin, the company that will be "somebody that I used to know" in 2 years time in wearables, once Samsung and Apple improve the battery life of their watches, and add in just a tiny bit more features.
    So long Garmin, and thanks for all the fish.

    • @TechyAgent
      @TechyAgent  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think they will pivot away from this lineup if their ROI is poor, and I imagine it will be. This has to be some sort of experiment...at least I hope so

  • @vzzpprrkks
    @vzzpprrkks 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good start dude . I like the start a lot gave me a laugh . Yes you have to make videos which are more interesting . Good job dude .
    Would like to get your opinion . Shall I jump from fitbit ionic to Apple watch . I won't be using it that deep as a smart watch .
    And also Garmin watches are heavy like the fenix series can't wear and sleep in the night .
    Ya one more thing I need to grow a full bear . And upgrade the glasses they looks too boxy .

    • @TechyAgent
      @TechyAgent  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would say that the move from the Fitbit Ionic to the Apple Watch series 4 is a good one. But I would not go with anything older than a series 4, because the older versions of the Apple Watch did not have heart rate sensors that are as good as the ionic. But the series 4 is excellent.

    • @vzzpprrkks
      @vzzpprrkks 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is the hr on series 4 better than ionic or just equal . I m planning for the 4 . Ionic is not that great. The hr is also fine better than the previous Gen but not up to the mark.

  • @KC-UT4rmAZ
    @KC-UT4rmAZ 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This'll be a one and done for Garmin as far as this line is concerned. Not worth the money at the price. To reason "real" watches are so expensive, for all those time piece lovers who spend thousands for a watch. Is because believe it or not there's very valid reasons for that. In this case, Garmin just decided to hike up the price, period. Now I have no doubt when the Fenix6 comes out it'll be even more expensive than the 5plus. And for really, no good reason.

    Ridiculous! I wont spend 2K+ on a Garmin! My last Garmin was a the F5X, and after a year its "short" battery life was just too much of a hassle for my ultras. Might as well garmin spend more R&D in making sub $400 watches that can last 35hrs++ 1s GPS -- Amazfit and COros have done it! Come on Garmin! Get back to basic, stop this niche misstep!

    I don't think this line up will succeed. Smart watches had time against them, 1 year is more than enough to technology advance and brings new releases with more features and competitive prices.
    Garmin is betting that people who spend the money to buy a Rolex, a Tudor and stuff like that can (maybe) spend a lot of money on theyr watches. Some maybe but I don't think that is a market that see value in pieces like that. Just my rumble opinion.

  • @rvboyett
    @rvboyett 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I'm one of those people that will buy an expensive watch, but there is no way I'd drop money on this garbage. An Apple Watch is just fine for all of those activities and I have one for those things. But the reason I buy watches from Longines, Rolex, Tag Heuer is because they are HAND CRAFTED pieces of art that can actually appreciate in value. This garbage is going to be worthless in about 5 years unless Garmin has a discounted program to swap it for an updated model every few years.
    However, I do appreciate that Garmin is trying to make stylish, high quality, smart watches. For practical reasons, I like my Apple Watch. But from a styling standpoint, it just isn't that great looking. I just think Garmin has WAY overreached on pricing.

    Yeah, I was agreed with your decisions by not buy this product for review, it's really ridiculous. If someone want to buy branded watches for fashion or style, they should chose another product than this. I don't know and also curious why Garmin made these things. Garmin should focus in fitness tracker that we've already knew for the past few years. Turning Garmin decisions in this make me feel sick! Rather than 2000++ USD MARQ, I prefer choose Garmin Fenix line or maybe Forerunner is enough for me that cost half or a quarter than these MARQs. Don't review this watch Eric, I can't afford to buy this honestly hehehe.

    Lol I bought a Garmin for my moutain biking.
    Didn't need all the extra junk so Fenix was out of option.
    Vivoactive 3 for $250.
    Smartwatches are a bad investment, just like phones or any other electronic device.
    I have a stylish Seiko limited edition that keeps it value.
    People invest in this Garmin for value are stupid...
