Your video with Joe was one of the first videos I watched and it really inspired me. I’ve visited Joe’s website more times than I can count, though I’m sure Joe could with his analytics ;). His portfolio has been an inspiration for me as I work on my portfolio projects. I just finished building my second portfolio project and I’m brainstorming ideas for my flagship project. Thanks for all of the great content you put out. If I successfully make the transition from ESL teacher in Hong Kong to ID I’m definitely crediting you!
Thanks Valerie! Joe is definitely inspiring and a good example to follow. I am sure that you will successfully make the transition...just keep at it 😃. And remember to get a lot of feedback on your portfolio deliverables!
Thanks so much! I'm just about to start working on my portfolio and I found this so useful. I really liked how you analysed each part and looked at each project and the overall design and layout. Can't wait to watch the next one. Thank you! :)
Thanks so much Devlin & Joe! I found this review super helpful. It gave me some great ideas to update my portfolio. You mentioned that you’d post the link to your video on mock ups but maybe I missed it but I can’t find it. Please share it again. Thanks!
I'm pretty sure the "ah-ha" moment I just had about my portfolio in comparison to Joe's gave me some ideas on how I can improve upon some things. I have been applying for months and while I did get a few bites that fizzled out I'm struggling to figure out what's preventing me from landing interviews at this point. 😣 Thanks for sharing this Devlin
@@DevlinPeckYT He uses "learn more" buttons very wisely. So instead of just captioning the project and having a click to view the project image he really expanded on each project with a case study, showing screenshots with bullet points that highlight Lo's is really smart, discussing graphics and the like. It's obvious to me now I don't have enough information to tie what I'm doing to how I have solved a problem.
Great video again! The link is probably given somewhere, but I can't find it. How do you make the portfolio mockup that Devlin talks about at 3:20? Thank you!
Wow, this is a very impressive portfolio! I understand the more technical the skills presented in the portfolio are, the more impressed the employer's will be. However, is a portfolio on this level required? Can it be less technical? Thanks
Yes, Joe did a great job! You can definitely do a less technical portfolio, but I would recommend showing off your strengths. For example, if you’re really good at storyboarding or writing, then including some supporting projects that highlight those skills would be great.
Hi Devlin! Thank you. This was very informative. If we want to land our first job as an eLearning / Instructional Designer, how can we find the info to build our portfolio? Things like the client's problems, for example? Just imagining things to start with?
Is 3D modeling useful in ID? If so, what are some applications worth mentioning? I’m assuming some forms of simulation learning environment. New subscriber here, thanks for your hard work Devlin. :)
I’d say so! It will definitely come into play for AR / VR experiences. Maya and Blender are popular professional-grade tools. And thanks for watching / subscribing 😊
Thanks for asking! I will not be able to make a video review of your portfolio at this time, but I’m sure that the instructional design community as a whole would be happy to give you some feedback 😊
Devlin, thanks for highlighting specific features on Joe’s portfolio. Helped me understand the ‘why.’ And thanks to Joe!
Thanks Anu! Glad to hear that it helped :D
