I, as a ZAPCO enthusiast, haven't been impressed with what they have to offer since Robert Zeff left the company. The quality just isn't anywhere close to what it used to be, but it's all made overseas now. Granted it's still better than 95% of what's available on the new market. Thanks for the review.
I have the zapco Z-150.6 AP . I love the amp.
@@myboy051 They've always done a much better job on the Z line than the studios. Even their new Z line wins competitions. I do like all of the earlier lines, but I haven't physically heard any of the later models.
@@myboy051 It's a great amp but they're overcharging for it ... I guess. They use marketing hype to justify the cost on "proprietary" capacitors (aka cheap knock offs).
The original one they said they were going to release appeared far better from the production model.
I hope you are not saying this for their z series. I own the Z150.6 AP audiophile amplifier and i am IMPRESSED.

Good video thanks. It would definitely make a great mids and highs amp. Lanzar makes an 8 channel amp with a bandpass crossover. I know it's cheap but I would be curious on the power. Have a good day.

Truly disappointing to see Zapco begin to play the over-rating game. Also, what’s the deal with the laid down caps on the circuit board? This is not a cheap amp but it has some cheap amp tendencies. Thanks for the video, great job as usual.

Wow what a shame it didn't make its rated power. 😞 Seems to be a great amp for a dedicated 3-way front-end. I love the built-in features. I've heard these are very good sounding amps, although, I couldn't discern on the video. I'm really intrigued by them. Great video brutha!! 👌

I run the zapco z150.2lx for the rear I run zapco z150.2 AP for the front and a zapco st1650 for my subs...as a zapco fan...the ST line is great I have never had any problems when I used to run the stx4sq and also the lower st4xii... I have ran in the past and still own the zapco reference 360.4 and zapco reference 1000.4 a zapco st1350 a zapco ag360 and all amazing sound amps ...yes the st line isnt doing rated but with its amazing SQ it makes up for it .... most people that run spl want power and dont know what to listen for or even own a dsp so of course they will say "oh zapco isnt what they used to be without robert zeff " which is not correct zapco is still an amazing company that puts out amazing amps yes its expensive but your getting great sounds.. there are some amazing builds used with the st line that have won competitions so dont sleep on zapco...if your a fan of Robert zeff check out arc audio...awesome amps and speakers aswell...on a side note the zapco st6x-dsp in my opinion the amp zapco needs to bring back to the drawing board

Thanks Vega, good vid! Zapco fan here as well. Got my Zapco gear in 2004(SP4,Ref 200.2 and Ref. 500.1) Excellent amps and the best sounding system ever had, still going. Sad to see after 30 years Zapco, RF, Soundstream and many others outsource their labor and quality that made their products so great. Just glad I got to live through the golden years of car audio.
Vega your the man. It's for sq. And like peter from pssound says. Even if it doesnt make the numbers it's not like it has nothing. He says if one watt sounds awesome then it's good because if you get 200 watts and it sounds like garbage then what's the use. Guys go to pssound on you tube . And cliport and carstens audio. And so many more use them in hi end sound systems. For sq they recomend hi sensitivity speakers and tweeters. For sq anything under 150 is awesome. Now you can go with the std. Class d from them in 4 channel and 2. They have a great five channel st105d. Four channel std st204d. The two channel std 402d is great. They have entry level zapcos 4 channel for 139 dollars. Honestly its awesome

I have the 4 channel and 2 channel version of this. My 4 is bridged down running some ScanSpeak mids. It overheats without a fan, but the AZ heat is a killer. It sounds good.
its not just being in Arizona. the amp overheats like crazy. bad heatsink design
The amp is shit i returned it it overheats and the rca was defective one channel sending signal to all channels
The zapco representative said it was made for tweeters and wideband or small midranges. He said the class d are better if you want power for the same price and they sound awesome
eduardo batista 75 watts is plenty of power for a 6.5 midbass to me, but the fact that it’s rated 100wpc is the disconcerting part...
The old z series it's still great 6 channel.in two ohm they give almost 300 watts. And in 4 ohm they give about 155. Bridged every two channels give 455 watts .I'm thinking two six channels for my prius v.for cdtaudio upstage. Center channel.and also 3way or two in front in one spots and 3 way or 2 but using a wideband which is what I have for the center and midrange
He said model std 402. And std 204d. The std104. But he said they are used all over the world for sq competition. Plus use high sensitivity speakers and tweeters. Because of the sq factor 2 and 4 ohms should be the best on the st. Ab amp

Good video, that's a shame cuz back in the day Zapxo used to be really good amps too.
I own a ST-5X II that should be similar to this amp. Love the way it sounds but the specs vary - mine is typically rated at 100 x4 + 200 x1 @ 4 ohm. I’ve also seen it rated at 80 x 4 into 4 ohms and 120 x 4 at 2 ohms - that’s essentially what you got in your test. It’s solid and sounds great but now that it’s owned and produced over seas support is limited.

Good review couple of questions/comment. What are your thoughts on mixing speaker brands. I.E. I have Alpine 6.5 components up front and Kickers 6.5 CS coaxial in rear. Looking to replace rear. Mounted on 04 Element with the factory 7 speaker system. Question #2 and more important how was vacation?😎
Hot Rod 1949 mixing speakers is perfectly fine as long as they’re in pairs. Vacation was great I need 3 more weeks of it lol

Hey we nust spoke to the zapco which took a while and they dont recommend 8 ohm loads and not a 40 hz. Then we did a test and the. Numbers were better but the voltage has to be 14.4v. It makes that much of a difference
eduardo batista all tests were at 1khz and on the 8ohm run we were at 14.38v

I got mine too new. Then i connectes soobwoofer, connected all the system and was playing loud it got so hot that i cant touch it and it wents off and off. Need to listen not loud. But it lacks the rms i think and its too hot. I dont know should give it back and buy helix m sic d class or buy another one for subwoffer. But music sounds nice.
But are you talking here about watts or rms?
compared to rockford fosgate p1000 5 channel which one would you buy for small sedan 1 idq 12 sub focal 165f 6.5 and as focal coax rearfill

@@HifiVega thanks man ,you wont believe i still have to jl audio 500/5 that purchased in 2001 on the system the fronts just stop working and the installer put put rear channels 25 watts , the fronts were 100 watts rms and the sub channel is still working sadly ill have replace it! many thanks for your reply !

What do you recommend for under 700 bucks with quality of sound being number one. For a 4 channel amp. Running Rockford forsgete t2 components t1 in the rear. Been looking at audsion amps zapco focal

My question is would i have to do the big 3 to run the 200.4 I'm only going to be pushing half that to my speakers. Also running a 12 alpine type x on a alpine 1000amp at 2o. Thanks for help. Just not trying to burn down my new Hyundai sonata lol
@@rafaelsanchez8290 you might be able to get away without a big 3 upgrade, but I’d monitor your voltage and if you notice it swinging a lot maybe do a big 3 monitor again and maybe even need another battery for it’s all said and done
Been looking at this one and the B2 audio 1200.6 for a three way active set up. Not sure if the Zapco is worth the extra $50

At $450 it looks real nice. But that sick paint job it comes with caught my eye.

@@HifiVega their critical mass got 3 different models/power range I could not find a test on them anywhere. One of them will be installed at a later date their 4 channel and I know you hate testing them
Im willing to bet a kenwood excelon or sony xm-gs4 would slaughter these entry level zapco amps.
Too bad didnt do rated, but one thing is they do sound good better than any regular amp

I'd rather go old school class A/B for SQ (and power) than pay the $$ for the new zapco. On the outro clip, the zapco tries to redeem itself & it sounds good; BUT not $499 good. 🤷♂️

There seem to be several amps to this series with the exact same layouts. Seems like a seems to just be a generic Chinese build house order amp to me.

ctrhenry I suppose you’re right, but it’s was low 40’s @8ohm mono/4ohm stereo so while I was glad to see an efficiency gain @4ohm mono I wished it was more efficient a 4ohm stereo.

I been telling people for years Zapco is junk now. Its a hollow name. I fear Orion is very slowly drifting that way. They should have kept the same build house.
I got burned on a crossover back in 2015. It just stopped working one morning. No led light on or anything. It Had the name and the look but, it seemed like Chinese assembly.

Scott with Zapco has told me that they fucked up with this design. It overheats and it doesn't do it's power rating. The new design is going to have built-in fans and actually do what it says it can do. I own this amp... The sound quality is good, but I needed more power and this amp doesn't deliver. Get the SP or the AP series from this company not the STX
The 6x dsp version is already out. Has gains on it too.
The current Zapco is more like an Audiopipe
This amp isn’t considered a SQ amplifier. The AP and SP lines are.

HifiVega yeah tell me about it . This is the lowest line they make. Zapco’s “SQ” amps are all AB class and this one is class D . Not saying we can’t find a good sounding class D but as I’m sure you already know. pretty much all manufacturers that have a SQ line of amps are made Class A or AB . Not often that we see a SQ competition car with class D amps.
I know the fairly new line of mosconi pro amps are class D and sound really nice .
HifiVega - my bad for being ignorant. I just looked up the amp on Zapcos site. That amp is a class AB . They also make the ST line in a class D . Sorry bro . 🤦♂️

The guts are nowhere the Zapco of old.
This is the lowest entry level that Zapco has to offer . I have the Z-150.6 AP. It’s blows the st line out of the water .
Bandpass on amps doesn't make much sense. Component passive crossover lp filter and amps highpass does the same thing. Save a couple hundred and use Harrison Labs Fmods. Only $20-$40.
I like having more control over bandpass frequencies than using a passive in junction with the passives and that’s typically why I like going with something that has some sort of dsp.
I dont like this amp...mine had a defective channel where one of the channels was sending signal to all 6... Plus it gets sooooo hott u can cook a steak on it and after 10 mins of play it sounded like shit once it gets really hot it got really bright... And it attracts so much dust and its hard to clean so its always super dusty no matter what ... Fuck this amp seemed like it diddnt have enough power either

Im sketchy about zapco now tho since this is the first gen of the z series... Whats fhe best sounding amp youve heard on the same speakers so far? Im impressed with pioneers class d 4 channel hi fi they sell at bestbuy best class d ive heard hands down got it temporary
The Adcom is the best sounding amp I’ve heard on these speakers, but I gotta say the RF power series amps sound really good to me as far as stuff you can buy now.
@@HifiVega lil update i returned and bought the 2nd amp again same shit gets hot enough to sear a steak on it and when it does it gets really bright sounding and seems to not have the power distorts really easy it has no headroom at all ive tried a bunch of different amps with less power even a walmart jenson had more power it seems and thats 50w.. im gonna try one more time im about to hook up the 4 channel instead already dissapointed with the power terminals being 8 gauge but well see. Maybe itsbjust the 6 channels design with that problem also got the new morel mps 400.4 otw. U should try dynoing that one too
