Hats off to Ms. Hillegas. This house design is a pure triumph. I've seen it in other videos but it's one of those that teaches something new every time. I can't get enough of it. Thank you for sharing it.
I totally agree! And our pleasure!
Those window treatments are perfect! The details of this home are exquisite! Heather has impeccable taste. Her home is gorgeous. ❤ Nice kaftan too!
Couldn’t agree more!!
I love colonial Williamsburg and I love what she did to this house! I’m keeping my tiny kitchen!
We love it too and glad you got affirmation to keep your tiny kitchen!
Love everything about this house. The beautiful paint colours, the exquisite wall coverings and the fabrics are just wonderful. This lady has created such simple elegant beauty 👏👏 it was a joy to watch this video.
So glad and totally agree!
I grew up in Virginia too and visited Williamsburg as a child. Thank you for a wonderful tour in this gem of a home. I, too, have the constraints of not being able to make any holes in the walls of my historic apartment and am completely inspired by the window box treatments in the first room. She did such a beautiful job of reimagining this historic home while making it inviting and luxurious- such a delicate balance - bravo!!!
TOTALLY agree! Heather really did an amazing job!
I have already rewatched this video twice!! The colors, wallpapers, upholstered pieces, furniture style, scale, etc - it’s completely gorgeous!! What a stunning result! It’s so elegant & inviting!! Could you show the outdoors in a bit more detail - that cute gazebo was a beautiful glimpse into their property! I’m sure it has beautiful mature trees, as well!
What happens after her 2 year residency?
Thank you for such a beautiful video, the conversations between these 2 lovely women was equally enjoyable!!
This video will be viewed Many times I’m sure! I love Heather’s style and use of color and pattern and furnishings to add an up to date look but keeping with the theme of the home. So lovely. Thank you Suzanne and co. for your enthusiasm and pointing out details throughout the home. I like the longer videos to really show as much aspect of the home as possible. Thank you Heather and Suzanne.
@@soniatriana9091there is the largest magnolia tree I have ever seen in the yard - where Heather got her clippings for the living room you see at the end!
@@pjc2262our pleasure!! There were so many marvelous details to share!! - Stacey (behind the camera )
Teaching by example! Elegant and inspiring yet restful and homey as well! Many thanks to this very talented designer, her support crew, Quintessence, and to the Williamsburg group who evisioned and implemented such opportunities for designers. 🌹🌹🌹
Exactly and thank you!!
Vielen Dank!
One of your best house visits. It is absolutely exquisite…Heather has done the house proud with such loving attention to the interior. I also enjoyed listening to her expound on her labour of love. Thank you.
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed! And agree - Heather did an amazing job!
0:00 to 1:24 when I hear that music my happiness begins love this channel 🧡
Oh thank you so much!!
Incredible color scheme, blending ideas and overall design. The silk covered chairs and pillows are beautifully matched.
Agreed!
Absolutely love the decor that Heather has chosen. I enjoyed this tour immensely. Thank you.
Our pleasure!
"Virginia is for lovers," of history. Love Williamsburg, thank you Rockefeller family.
Yes!!
Each room is so unique and beautiful. The home is really cozy and comfortable. Thank you so much for sharing your incredible home with us.
Our pleasure to share Heather's beautiful reimagine of this historic home!
More!! Please share MORE on Williamsburg homes or historic homes that are lived in. Where did the family eat their meals? No bathroom shots? No hallway descriptions?
Perhaps you didn’t watch the entire video?
She took a very historic house and made it extremely liveable for todays world, while maintaining the dignity of the historic building.Bravo.
Totally agree, and easier said than done!
First thing I noticed were the lambrequins, they added so much to the design of the room. Also loved the touch of outlining the wallpaper and windows and paint selections. Loved your dress, Susanna!
Thank you! Its from D'Ascoli
I totally agree - loved those elements too and Susanna’s dress is from D’Ascoli!
The canopy over the sofa absolutely rocks. Amazing.
Right?! Such a great idea!
Out off most of the interior designer you have shown this lovely lady really understands design and not just throw money at a project
Amazing and inspiring
I’m English but live in Spain your history is so young but I’m glad its being held on to
Was in Salamanca northern Spain this week looking at a 14th century statue amazing
This was so lovely to watch. We visited Williamsburg quite often when I was a child though we lived in NY we had family in the DC area. Our home had three rooms painted with historical Willamsburgh paint. Our living room was Apollo blue, the dining room was Wythe Gold and my mom’s bedroom was Wythe Rose. At Christmas she always had bayberry candles from Williamsburg on the dining room table .The fabrics and wall coverings are beautiful . Thank you !
Sounds lovely! Thank you for watching!
Love this home and composition. Preserving the historical beauty in the most comfortable and dreamy way.
Yes, she did such an incredible job!
It’s wonderful to see such love and devotion for heritage buildings in an amazing setting. The interiors are a gorgeous and sublime blend of a serious nod in the direction of the the buildings history but also giving them a twist which is 21st C.
Well said
This home is stunning. Thank you for inspiring!
Our pleasure!
First, I love your beautiful dress. The house and the window treatments are gorgeous. Very inspiring. Thanks for sharing.
Susanna’s dress is from D’Ascoli and thank you - so glad you enjoyed!
Susanna, your dress coordinated beautifully with the interiors of this house.
I'll be in Williamsburg tomorrow doing a little shopping, then over to Yorktown. Very lovely area.
It was so lucky yes! From Dascoli
I too have seen this before and love it. I am redecorating soon and this is inspirational for me. Thank you for sharing this visit.❤
Our pleasure!
It really is quite stunning isn’t it. Love it.
What a beautiful home - it’s really magical in the way it blends the historical with a wonderful modern sensibility - thanks for a fantastic visit!
Our pleasure! We think so too!
I like the thought of real shutters that you might really use. In
Modern houses that would only work on lower floors that you could secure from outside because we have screens.
Amazing!!!! You kept the old and meshed it with new and its gorgeous!!!!! Everything is meticulously done!!!
We agree! Glad you enjoyed!
Enjoyed every moment of this tour with Heather. The attention to detail and research is incredible and inspiring.
We agree!
Gorgeous! I only wish you had spent more time on this episode.
Its one of our longest ever and we showed almost every room in the house
14:19 Those walls, your dress, that garland!
Bravo Ms Hildegard! What a clever and brilliant way to showcase the beautiful and historic reproductions from early Williamsburg…all dealing with many preservation rules. The result is warm, inviting and certainly Martha W. Would have loved it!!!
👍🏻👍🏻
Wow. Just Wow. I love this house and what Heather has done for it.
We do too - glad you enjoyed!
A stunning example of traditional decor that is timeless and fresh. I especially loved the kitchen and the wall murals.
So true! Glad you enjoyed!
To start, I love old Colonial homes from the 18th/19th centuries, especially in the style of old Williamsburg. I love how this home is in keeping with the gorgeous antique character, but modernized in a way to respect the age and history. The colors are beautiful, especially the blue colors and wallpapers that are used. The small bedroom is like a cozy nook...so charming with that lovely wallpaper used throughout. Gorgeous and very well done. This might be one of my favorites. So many on this channel...hard to choose..lol. Thank you!
Thank you for watching, and for taking the time to let us know!
Right?! Heather did a wonderful job of updating with respect to the house! And thank you - so glad you enjoy our channel! Much appreciated!
So so beautiful. Thank you. Greetings from Germany.
Thank you! Cheers!
A shout out to the skilled artisans who did the actual work.
I think the fabric and paint colors are really fresh and exciting. I don’t understand why so many surfaces are covered with books, maybe a bit overdone. I love your videos and wish there were lots more❤️
Beautifully done, loved the modernity amidst the nuanced respect for history. The Martha Washington fabric absolutely fantastic, so many wonderful details. It is always a pleasure receiving a video from Quintessence ,plus Sussanah's oversized stripe dress with delicate decoration great. I also visited Williamsburg as a kid and its still a part of my design influences, which are widely varied. What a wonderful full circle moment for Heather to design in a place you cherished as a child and leave behind such a smashing success. Plus lovely seasonal decoration that's sustainable, graceful and actually attached to bringing life into our homes in winter. Thanks as always!
Thank you for your lovely, comprehensive and perceptive comment. Agree with all!
Love this home. Each room is my favorite. Heather created a beautiful home.
Couldn’t agree more!
Lovey home! The blue and white bedroom with the twin beds and ribbon trim was sublime and perfect for little sisters!
We think so too!
The decoration of this house is so calming. So different from the other show houses in this channel.
Glad you enjoyed!
Elegant, timess & beautiful!❤
Really beautiful. Left me with questions though..... does the designer live there?? Only two years, then what? A new designer comes in and changes all this beautiful work? ....
That’s right - only two years. They do not redo it, but use it for visiting dignitaries and staff.
I've always loved visiting Colonial Williamsburg and always notice the differences in interior furnishings from one visit to the next. I like that the Designers in Residence are continuing to evolve and update the interiors while respecting the history of the building. Just a lovely re-do of the Nelson-Galt House by Heather and her team.
Agreed!
I immediately admired Susanna Salks dress! It looks perfect on her. Love the colors, the attention to detail, the fabrics, etc. It made me remember when we lived in Virginia and visited the city, esp at Christmas time! Now I have 2 Magnolia trees in the yard and they remind me of the Christmas decor! Sigh!
Glad it brought back such lovely memories and Susanna’s dress is from D’Ascoli!
Thank you so much! My dress is from DAscoli!
Williamsburg will always be a special place for me. This design/decor project is absolutely stunning. Heather is a great artist. Kudos to her sister ‘s seamwork. Her work is amazing. I know, I am a decorator and seamstress myself. Very well done ladies. ❤
Love all the rooms, but the study is incredible, with the color drenching. I love the walls, doors, fireplace and trim work being all the same color. It's like a warm hug of a room. The hyphen room is pure calm and tranquility. It would hardly seem like work to sit at that desk, in front of that gorgeous bank of windows. The blue and white patterned room with the twin beds is swoon worthy. Its what I dreamed of having as a little girl! Even the simple mantel shelf with the one brass candlestick and the dark framed art is perfection!
Thank you for your comprehensive comment! Agree with all - Heather did an incredible job. Thank you for watching.
I've always loved Colonial Williamsburg. So nice to see this beautiful home!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Absolutely loved every minute of the tour. ❤
So glad!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Love this one! Heather did a wonderful job with this home. I am not usually drawn to the typical Williamsburg interior but Heather has made them tasteful and exciting!
What a fabulous house, I love it
Great tour- beautiful home ! 😃
Thanks for visiting
GAUD!! that house really works. Keep up the good work. ps, your show is keeping me poor . I get too many ideas for my house.
It really does! And so sorry 🤣 but delighted to hear that!!
She did a beautiful job!!
Agreed!
What a beautiful house, the wonderful rooms, the blue especially and the fantastic kitchen, thank you for sharing it with us!
Our pleasure!
Love seeing the video, and I had used this house designed by Heather in selecting Benjamin Moore paint colors and treatments for my home: for example, in the den she used Apollo Blue from the BM Williamsburg paint collection, a blue with grey in it, and color drenched the room, meaning that the doors and trim are also in this color, in different sheens. I did this in my kitchen in Jamestown blue, a similar blue to Apollo Blue. Also, upstairs in the hall and master bedroom there is a darker, contrast trim in Prentis Cream with lighter Harwood Putty walls. I did this treatment in my living room of my cape cod style cottage with the doors and trim in a light tan called Lady finger by Benjamin Moore, with walls in linen white. By doing this slightly darker trim the room seems larger, and its just so lovely, all inspired by this house designed by Heather, and Williamsburg design.
Beautiful home and I love both the dresses the ladies have on.
Not crazy about the black and white coffee table.
I live in Virginia Beach so I am right over the bridge from Williamsburg. We go every fall because it’s so beautiful at that time of year. This home is so beautiful. I really enjoyed watching this episode
So glad!!
That was sooo interesting!
So glad!!
Love,love,love the kitchen. Oh my!
Me too!!
This home is wonderful and provides many ideas for my new studio apartment. Scored a king size beautifully textured bedding package at an estate sale during the summer for $20, minimally a 90 percent discount of it's value. Seeing this video showed me what to do with many of the pieces (like covering the bolster pillows on my couch with the shams & lots more) particularly since my bed is twin size😊. Enjoyed👏🏿✨
So glad - and I agree - so many great ideas!
Such a beautifully creation ! Heather took the hot trends of the colonial period and modernized them while still holding their dignity. Growing up in Philadelphia my parents took us kids in the 70's to Colonial Williamsburg every chance we could. The mixing of styles from around the world in a edited execution and presentation, to this day, has such a strong influence on my aesthetics.... especially the furniture. Heather has really brought back to life the ho-hum colonial look into the 21st century. Really overjoyed with this creation. Great episode ❣
Thank you for your thoughtful comment! So glad you enjoyed!
Beautifully done considering the restrictions. The blue twin bed room is gorgeous.
I think so too!
Celebrating American history is so important in this day and age and I truly enjoyed watching. Whomever did the upholstery is a true master and awe inspiring! How fortunate to have a sister who's a masterful seamstress too. ❤❤
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Absolutely fantastic,full of life .
I like the soft autumn palette

It really is!
Bonjour Suzanna and Stacy, it is so nice to visit this gorgeous house, so well decorated. Although it is an old house, the feel is modern, fresh, comfy and welcoming place. Such great work by the designer. I see it was posted 1 day ago.. but the minute I saw this video, I knew I have seen it before, is it a second time that you are posting it ?. It does not really matter, it was a fantastic visit. Happy Autumn to both of you and thank you for bring us gorgeous homes. - Rosalind -
Thank you so much Rosalind! We think Heather did an amazing job as well - as you say, respecting the history yet updating for a fresh modern field. We have not published this home before. We so appreciate your thoughtful comments and continued viewership!
