Chris White delivers on of the best sax solos in history and casually walks back to the shadows...
now he is part of a Dire Strait tribute band, he's continuing band legacy
No words can discribe this solo...masterpiece!
That's a gem of a comment sir
@jbelmaestro I didn't know that. Which tribute act is that please . I'd love to catch them .

NOBODY makes music like this anymore. Even perfection never sounded this good..
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
And, remember, this is LIVE. Brilliant. I would love to be able to go back and see them live again.

Mark Knopfler does not get the credit he deserves. He is one of the best and the coolest rock star of them all
The version of this song is nearly 10 minutes long. It could be another 10 minutes longer, and absolutely no one would be mad about it.
that lad on sax is literally pouring his heart out. what a breathtaking piece of art
With no doubt, Dire Straits are one of the best bands of all times.
Think this might be the best piece of live music ever...
THE best live version of ANY song, ever. The piano-sax-intro is absolutely ethereal, the long extended solos at the end are beyond beautiful, and jjust the way this already great and elaborate ballad has been worked into a 10 minute epic of legendary proportions impresses me every time I listen to it. It's musical perfection on a new level, a 6 star song if there ever was one.
Agree!,❤h
The sax solo 6:19 give me goosebumps all the time!! straight from the heart! ❤
I have stopped counting the number of times I've listened to that sax solo. Absolutely magnificent!
I learned to play it, its bloody amazing!!!!
Chris White is an amazing saxophonist
stupendo !!!!!!
A me pasa lo mismo
One of the most amazing songs i've ever heard.
+Mia Cassinelli Yes, it is isn't it? Some themes and stories are eternal. Tony Robson
+Mia Cassinelli No shit!
+Mia Cassinelli .....and possibly the best "original" versions of it. Check out Lisa Mitchell from Triple J Like a version. Won't post a link - find it if you want
+Mia Cassinelli ok
yap u was right
I think the Piano and Saxophone makes this the #1 intro to any song in history.
Hands down one of the finest arrangements ever made for any song. Mark Deserves credit for writing this incredible song and his band for their work on it.
this is exactly what music should be like, seriously.
Now compare this to modern crappy beatmaking hip hop.
Definitely agree 👍 🤝 😊
🦍🎯🎯🎯
@@sevchykwow wow wow... I mean... Not really comparable. Don't need to knock down hip hop because this song is beautiful. You obviously don't get it, and that's okay.
@@lukazubcic1767 This song is listened to 48 years after. Who will listen to a song released by your crappy Jay Z or 50 Cent three months after, let alone two years? That's the difference, to be consise...
I was there, but I'm pretty sure it was 1992. I still have my ticket, Saturday 30th of may 1992.
So glad I found this...
It was raining?
Having grown up along side of music of this caliber and having it on video at your fingertips is a gift for a lifetime.
now THAT'S what i call a saxophone solo
How can I say how I loved this version? I am Chinese and that was when we could only have cassettes playing with our walkman in the early 90s, though we didn't get the original release. At the time my girlfriend and I were breaking up even though I still working on putting things together, at the time I listened to this cassette every day while I was taking the factory's commuter bus to work and off, and I cried every time for a full month when this track was on...Unfortunately, we didn't make it. Now 30 years later I'll still cry whenever I listen to this live performance.
There are at least four guys on that stage that figured out exactly where they fit in the world and became the best they could be at thier passion. Alan Clark has keys in 270 degrees around him, Chris White blew his lungs out, Paul Franklin found a way to make sure the steel was heard, and then there is Mark Knopfler, the master of rock and roll with musical clarity. I was lucky to have seen Dire Straits a few times and we will most likely never see that kind of talent together again on stage.
this is the best version of the best love song ever! Thanks Mark for these unbelievable moments.
30 years later still waiting for something similar...
Unfortunately there will be nothing like this ever, this is gold
We don’t need better than this magic. ❤
Fabuloso! Para escucharlo una y mil veces. Dire Straits únicos...no habrá nada igual.
Never thought a Piano and Sax would sound pure magical. There is nothing like this period end of story, you have to be a soul less troll not to understand the quality of these musicians and how they put their heart and soul into every beat and every chord. Been a fan since I was a little boy and still today listen to Dire Straits. Thanks Mark for the memories.
Calm down man, the nerds with soul are here. Just we are not loud and modern..
@@lazarlazarov7857 lmfao ahahahaa
It certainly is a beautiful moment in this version. Alan Clarks parts are always on point.
❤
Making Movies is one of my all time favorite records!!
Any “short list” of the best musicians active between 1975 and 2025 must include Mark Knopfler.
To call this music "rock and roll" is like comparing a filet mignon to a burger.. His creativity is up on a WHOLE NEW LEVEL of brilliance! He MEZMORIZES the listener with the lush, yet also delicate poetry he creates! If there are other musicians at this level of artistry.... I CAN'T THINK OF ANY TO COMPARE TO MARK KNOPFLER! WOW! Takes your breath away... I gotta BUY EVERYTHING HE PUTS OUT!
OMG you said it all for me, best wishes I share your music passion, this guy is a super star
Ian Waxler saw him live yesterday, he's a genius man
not only the old Dire Straits songs he played but his new stuff as well is just mad-down brilliant
Rebecca DT
I am so jealous, I just wish he would tour Australia
Ian Waxler he is in a league of his own i agree
+michael Walters dire straits and pink floyd is in that league... :) personal opinion... both are perfectionisme
1:08 - Just a beautiful moment, no matter how many times you hear it. Love it so much.
Mark is a music genius! Thanks to him and his superb bandmates!
One of the truly great sax solos.
Probably the best love song ever written. Incredible...All you can feel while listening is pure and clear love. This is incredible love masterpiece...
Simplemente amor ♥️♥️
I could listen to Mark Knopfler's music all day. In 1985 my oldest brother brought home a tape with a silver guitar on the front with a blue back ground on the front. I was 13 at the time. Needless to say my brother never got the tape back. I listened to it over and over. I fell in love with the guitar playing and the general sound. After listening to so many different bands, I come back to Mark Knopfler and feel right at home with his solo stuff. Thank you Mark for writing such music.
🥰🥰🥰👌
La migliore versione live. Non ci sono aggettivi per lodare questo capolavoro. È sublime.
Verissimo
Dà i brividi ogni volta che la ascolto
Wonderful song! This is why I love the classics! We do not have songs like this no more!
@SirAlex191
My Dad died in 2003, hadn't been poorly but he absolutely adored Dire Straits. He drove a Nissan Micra and used to pick my stepmum up from work (she was 18 years younger than him) She would always laugh that she'd come out of work and the little car was really 'rockin around' as he was singing to Dire Straits. Just had to play this track at his funeral. It makes me cry every time I hear it. He adored my stepmum and my brothers & I. An absolute classic. Thanks Mr KnofflerXX
A League of talented Gentlemen on a sacred stage doing music at its best for the history.
"On the Night was recorded in May 1992 at Les Arenes in Nîmes, France, and at Feijenoord Stadion in Rotterdam, The Netherlands-concerts that were part of the 'On Every Street Tour'"
Poetry, put to music. Mark Knopfler = Genius.
One of the very best fucking bands in the world. Ever. That is all I wish to say.
OK
Dire Straits and Pink Floyd are the best bands ever!!
Patric Parii You got my very strong support on your opinion my man! BEST!
I would add Queen and Led Zeppelin to that list... but the Dire Straits are the best in my opinion.
Chiungalla79 I'm seeing a patern with this list
This is why music was invented.
That sax solo is something else.
The best version ever
16 years ago I went through a divorce. This song came on from this album. And it really broke me down. "Juliet, when we made love you used to cry." She did. "You can fall for pretty strangers and the promises they hold." She did. So glad I found my true love later. But this song always reminds me of when I realized I had lost my earlier love. Great song, though.
Happy for you that you later on found your true love.
The guy on the sax: what an absolute legend
No matter what live version of this song I watch it always seems like he is reliving something that happened to him. His heart surely breaks every time he plays this song. The intensity he puts into the song comes from a place that only a broken heart can create......
Exactly!
I’ve noticed that Mark Knopfler has this particularly vulnerable/sensitive stage presence, body language wise, and I think his actual songwriting is far too good to just chalk it up to him being an astute showman and knowing how to “work” a crowd. good He seems very immersed in the primary emotion of whatever song he’s playing at any given moment. I think he probably has a very intense emotional reaction to music in general; and as such performing songs he has written are very visibly him working through his own life experiences and emotions.
Ya know…….just one more time…….that’d be amazing……..come on Mark…….get the guys back together……your fans miss the band…….
This is beyond me. I think this is pure genius. Tearing up is not hard
You know you're in a different time when you hear the crowds appreciation. What a beautiful song. Yes the performance is '93 but it's very much of the 80s sound when this song was released. So glad I was raised in that era.
We need a whole generation of musicians like Knopfler to clean the mess of the past 20 years.
well said so true
Still one of the greatest songs ever written. What makes this even better is that incredible band behind our man Mark.
Mark Knopfler - lead guitar, lead vocals
John Illsley - bass guitar, backing vocals
Alan Clark - piano, organ, synthesizers
Guy Fletcher - synthesizers, backing vocals
Chris White - saxophone, flute, percussion, backing vocals
Paul Franklin - pedal steel guitar
Phil Palmer - guitar, backing vocals
Danny Cummings - percussion, backing vocals
Chris Whitten - drums
Afortunado de poder ver esta joya en 2023 en TH-cam...pero muy triste de no haber podido ver nunca en directo a estos genios. Dire Straits forever.
No better band with Mark. Ever. Chris White is just amazing. None of it would be nearly as meaningful without the brilliant gifts that Mark brings to the table. Just the very best. Endless inspiration.
Soberbo, Intemporal, Magistral.
Gratidão Gratidão Gratidão
On the Night is a great album. Will follow me forever. This sax solo...can not find
words...often brings me the happy crying.
Paul Franklin's pedal steel addition just works sooo well. Not to mention the sax. So well arranged.
mark standing there coolly calmly effortlessly playing and singin proably the most powerful live love song of all time.....so glad he really "sings "it without rushing changing the melody and words .....
👌👌👌🤗🥰
I just love this live version. It reminds me of my father. Dire Straits was one of his favourite band...Maybe he´s listenin´ them up in heaven :(
It does not matter wich kind of music you like...It does not matter who you are or where you are. This song will catch you everywhere, it is realy amazing, this is art in its best form !
What a beautiful song
I simply can not get enough of this man! What a gem of a song. ❤
They are the best.
👌🥰🥰🥰 to you!!🥰
After seeing this live concert, I realised Dire Straits are so much lyrical like no other band in music history...
You can fall for chains of silver
You can fall for chains of gold
You can fall for pretty strangers
& the promises they hold
Lyrical genius
I love this song, especially the live version with the long sax solo - brilliant!
The most beautiful love song ever❤️🔥❤️
As I get older and life leaves it's invisible scars... I realise how lucky you are in life to have someone that wants to stand beside you through thick and thin... To love you and be loyal to you. That is a beautiful gift. I hope it comes to me again soon.
+Paul Brown never give up hope!!! i have found my happiness after many years x
Just missed that dude ! Just fuckin realize now in this moment how the fuck lucky I am! Thank god!!
This night's Romeo and Juliet is simply THE BEST version ever, with DS or solo, period!
Besides Mark and the whole band, i'll give special mention to Alan Clark's fantastic piano playing, he is a huge part of "the DS sound". As amazing as Mak's keyboard players are on this solo band, NOBODY can play Romeo and Juliet and Telegraph Road and Tunnel of Love piano parts like Alan.... His dynamics on the keys are unique,.
Iam crying, this is what i was listening , when i where missing my only love he was so far away from me, i still love him after 15 years, but theres no happy End🥹😔i never seen him again.Marcel ❤️I hope, you are allright🙏.i will always love you, thanks for the unforgettable and beautiful time, thanks for all
I don’t know guys if you agree but in terms of music it’s like there’s a before and an after Dire Straits. Music quality will never be the same.
He continues to make music, 30 more years of great songs to listen to 😊
Этот шедевр от Нофлера, я думаю, достоин быть вписан золотыми буквами в летопись мировых бестселлеров рок баллад, как один из лучших, созданных в 20 веке!!!!
Singing a Shakespeare play into a song, Mark is not only one of the world best guitarist and also a good lyricist. The arrangement of this love song is superb one can hear it forever and never get bore with it.
One of my all-time top-10 favorite songs. Painful and sweet. I discovered this song around the time of my first heartbreak. As I've gotten older, it's been a steady companion, and seems to grow wiser through the years.
This is my favorite love song of all times, it is just so beautiful. How can anyone dislike it is beyond me.
This is the kind of music that when you are listening to, makes you think that human beings, if they want, could give life to the SUBLIME
Yep I agree
THIS is the worlds best song ever. Period!.
It's up there
Tremendo saxofonista Chris White,maravilloso solo❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Love the sax solos.
One of the most beautiful songs in the history of all time.
When making music had meaning of its own. When there was essence to music and songs.
Doesnt get any better than this , bar is raised that high, my fav DS song ever
This is poetry, this is melody, this is music
The Intro is absolutely amazing, such a beautiful song !
So glad this came out. My all time favourite.
How can people dislike this........ Jeeez. It's mind blowing!!!
Que versão maravilhosa! Esse solo de sax entrega tudo ❤
Dire Straits, for me , one of the best bands of the modern music, with others of 80's. And Mark, the best guitar player! Wonderful!!!!!!! Really wonderful
The best love song ever written ❤
If there ever was a better love song I have not heard it yet.
I've always wanted to play sax, thanks to this guy! This has to be the most incredible sax solo ever. Hope you're keeping up your playing. Most people say there's nothing sexier than a sax....
I know its been nine years but I’d like to nominate Clarence Clemons for the best sax player. This is fantastic however… also.

You must be good to play with Mark Knopfler!! So...👌🤗

Chris White is awesome..
and obviously all the guys...
one of my favorite songs ever...
this song is perfect.. I love it
Absolute masterpiece
You are so right. Knopfler always appreciated a good saxophonist. Mark is such a freaking musical genius. Can I be Juliet? Please?
The intro is just amazing, so emotional. It's a shame that most 18 year old boys (i'm a 18 year old boy) don't hear this kind of music.
you must be 30 now! i hope you still hear that masterpiece of livemusic! im 27 and i love this kind of beautiful art! im crying my soul out of myself listening to this work of art! dont think we gonna hear such an amazing song again in music history.
Thanks to Mark!

Le solo de sax est sublime ,comme le morceau d'ailleurs
This song sometimes I swear was written about my 2nd wife. And yes it is one of the most beautiful songs ever.
The lyrics tear my stomach wide open and then yank out my soul.
I'll still never stop loving you...
"All I do is kiss you, through the bars of a rhyme. Juliet baby, I'll do the stars with you anytime"
Just seen Chris White do a stand up talking about his life, such a nice guy and an amazing musician
