The Hayling Billy Line • 60 Years of closure • Langstone Level Crossing location • Walking the Line

The Hayling Billy was not like an intercity connection between Hayling Island Station and Havant, but it did serve the local community and hundreds-of-thousands of summertime tourists very well for almost a century. Unfortunately, due to rising maintenance costs and the gradual failing of the old wooden Langstone Railway Bridge, the line was deemed too expensive to run. 1967 saw the last year of service.
I have walked along the old line many times and, on the 60th year of closure, I thought I would take a trip all the way from where Hayling Station used to be, all the way up to Langstone.
