Hi Phil, Mike from Nelson CLW, so your irons tool gate is basically floating it's not locked in position on the tool rest. it pivots while you are cutting . that's what I am doing wrong . I always thought the irons tool gate post was locked to banjo. Very informative video thank you Phil.

A 3" forstner bit would have taken more wood our faster, leaving just a smal amount for your tool to cut.
Yeah but how much does a good one cost? How much force to cut? Hard to sharpen?
Your depth guage only tells you how deep your piece is, not the height of the outside. therefore you don't actually know the thickness of the bottom.
