The Aqua Green is an unnumbered automotive phthalo pigment called Palomar Turquoise, chlorinated Cu-Phthalcyanine. I have it, and it pinholes like crazy, it must be a tiny particle size. I also have and love the Smalt, they did a great job on it. The two cobalt greens remind me of the Schmincke versions, which I also feel are quite good. And as far as ones that interest me, I like the looks of the PB60 and the PB16!
Smalt is absolutely gorgeous, I have two tubes of it, it’s divine. ❤️ I also love cobalt blue deep and cobalt green deep, gorgeous granulating colours!
@@JayNathanWatercolor I’m an abstract artist so I use all colours, and love bold and vibrant colours - not afraid to use colours unmixed. But Smalt makes amazing violets with magentas too, and the craziest bright blue with opera, like Yves Klein Blue. :)
Wondering the same thing. It looks so beautiful and wonder how to use it as well. Really enjoy unique colors for pops of the unexpected. Does it cause a two tone granulating effect in the Opera mix?
Great video. :) The Smalt Blue and Prussian Blue are so much deeper and richer than what you see here. I haven't tried their PB74 yet. Overall I've found Winsor and Newton to be the most smooth, even, and consistent watercolor out there and they are by far my favorite brand. There are plenty of other great brands with unique offerings too. TFS 🙏
I love the Cobalt Green Deep and Permanent Sap Green. I have had and liked the Winsor Green Blue Shade and Winsor Green Yellow Shade. My very favourite PBk31 or Perylene Green is Winsor Newton's. I love the Prussian Blue and Winsor Blue Red Shade. I want to compare their Winsor Blue Green Shade with others...I hear it is even greener than most....
Indantherene blue, both ultramarines smalt blue, all phtalo blues and phtalo greens, manganese blue hue, aqua green, cobalt turquoise light, perylene green, oxide of chromium, permanent sap green and olive green are my favourites
I don't have many of W&N blues and greens but I had to get the Aqua Green because I love the hue. I also have Viridian: it mixes a soft neutral with Permanent Rose.
I've been curious about the Aqua Green lately. It's so pretty 💕. But W&N hasn't released any pigment info and I'm always a little hesitant to jump right in and buy something before knowing exactly what I'm purchasing.
Use the cobalt turquoise a lot. Love how it separates out and gives an awesome granulating two tone effect. I've learned It has very weak tinting strength so just use it for the two tone or just alone. Not for mixing greens or purples. So, for example, I'd mix a purple then add the turquoise wet into wet on the painting. Or dab it on full strength wet onto dry for a pop of color. Suprised by how much I use it so it has a permanent spot on my palette of favorites. Currently using Daniel Smith.
I have so many of these …. Aqua Green is fantastic, I like it better than Phthalo turquoises. The Cobalt Turquoise Light and Cobalt Green get heavy use for me. I’m on my last squeeze of a tube of sap green, I use that one a lot because it just makes some really natural looking foliage. I also like both of the ceruleans and use them a lot. The greener shade mixes excellent granulating soft greens.
The Cobalt green makes some beautiful mid-green mixes- it doesnt get dark though. With Gold Ochre it makes a color separating olive green- the gold seeps to the edges in a wet wash- gives the effect of sunlight coming through leaves. With Cad Lemon it makes the springiest of spring greens. With a warm yellow it goes to a range of sap greens. With Magnesium Brown it makes murky foresty grey to brown greens - with luck it looks like greens seen through fog. With Cad red it makes deep browns. With magenta, a red violet that will separate with a lot of water. With really wet mixes with Potter’s Pink, I think it looks like you are looking through clear blue-green water to see the bottom texture of a lake or stream. It’s fun to play with, because it is full of surprises.
Really appreciate your swatch series! I have such a soft spot for Winsor Blue red shade, both because it was my first professional-grade paint tube and t is such a useful mixing color. I recently got Aqua green and am enjoying it too. Did you find that Cobalt turquoise was relatively easy to rewet? WN tubes are currently half off at my local art store so I have designs adding on a few colors haha
The one Schmincke color I keep in my palette is PB29 because it granulates so beautifully. The Smalt is pretty, but seems weak. I looked at Kim's site and it seems kind of weak on her card too, though she didn't write that. lol I do like the Winsor Blue GS and use it quite often. Most of these I use in either DS or DV, except Viridian which I use M Graham because it is much easier to rewet. WN is the only Sap Green I will use. DS has a weird 3 pigment mix for it (PO48, PY150, PG7). I don't understand. lol That Terre Verte YS is ugly in my opinion. Of course it might look better if they had given you enough paint to work with. Also, it probably looks better in person. I'm not a fan of Green Gold by itself, though it does mix nicely. I actually like QOR the best for it, though the DV is a close second. I may have to look into that Cobalt Green Deep. I really like the way it looks here. The only Cobalt Green I have is Holbein and is a weird 3 pigment mix. Keep in mind, I think anything that is more than 2 pigments is weird, so just overlook me. lol I'm just of the opinion that if other companies can do it in 2, why use 3? I have Chromium Oxide Green from Grumbacher Academy I think. I abbreviated it as GA on my swatch card so I'm guessing. For a student grade, it is surprisingly highly pigmented. Enjoyed the video as always and appreciate you putting up with the frustration of ornery dot cards not wanting to give up their paint.
I have it in tube & it does, though the granulation is very subtle. Daniel Smith's version is the closest to genuine Manganese Blue both in hue and its crazy granulation ;)
Wondering how much of a difference there is between Winsor Blue (GS) and Daniel Smith Phthalo Blue (GS). They're both PB15:3....I have the DS one but that Winsor Blue GS looks so luminous that I'm considering buying it but don't want to purchase a second tube of the same paint!? Anyone have experience with this?
i think their pthalo blues and greens are a particularly nice offering compared to the exact tones in other brands. (comparing to WN and SCH). they've been great : ) EDIT: and also *highly* pigmented, which might not be showing here due to stingy dotcard. idk why these companies have to be SO stingy on their cards!! and on certain colors, it's not even enough to paint the box it was put in. ridiculous!! very frustrating. *i think Schmincke on the whole is better about it though.* enough so that like 98% of the colors had a healthy dot left. but all had enough to paint their box. (only 4 out of 144 colors were used up.)

Thanks very much for the info. I do like the color but it's another one I doubt I would use.
Perylene green looks lovely!
It's a really nice version of this pigment
Smalt is absolutely gorgeous, I have two tubes of it, it’s divine. ❤️ I also love cobalt blue deep and cobalt green deep, gorgeous granulating colours!
I like the smalt too but not sure how I would use it. What do you like to use it for in your paintings?

@@wulfseig1864 my Smalt has very fine granulation so it’s not a really pronounced effect, there’s a small amount of colour separation - quite subtle.
Cobalt turquoise is wonderful for light highlights in landscapes

I have to agree with you. They have so many wonderful blues and greens. 😍

The Aqua green is beautiful. I'm never sure about investing in Viridian as it's so hard to rewet. I would probably have to get the M Graham version.
I've been curious about the Aqua Green lately. It's so pretty 💕. But W&N hasn't released any pigment info and I'm always a little hesitant to jump right in and buy something before knowing exactly what I'm purchasing.
I love PB74! I think Schminke has a slightly higher pigment load at their PB74 though.
I'll would like to compare them side by side. Unfortunately the W&N dot is all gone 😭
I really don’t understand manufacturers.

PB 15 is inherently low tinting, but I think they did a great job on the Smalt! I was surprised how nice it is.
You're very welcome 🙏 This dot card has definitely been a problem and it's even worse when swatching the earth colors 😭
Does the Manganese Blue Hue granulate?
