@GrantMosher by the way, if you play the pick while your bass tone is in Distortion but less blended with the clean sound, you'll get the Nu Metal tone that bassists used. from what I heard they double tracked the bass the same way guitarists do with their guitars as well.
I'm a newer player. Started with finger style and am working on my pick skills. I prefer finger style overall because it allows me more options to vary my playing. It's easier for me to move my hand higher and lower and to vary my attack style or to pepper in other hand techniques - slapping, plucking, hitting with my fingernails, etc.
Totally!! You can definitely put a little more variety in the sound with just your fingers. Also to be thinking about that as a new player is awesome keep it up!!
more people need to see this, this is great advice
how the heck this video didn't get viral? This is great! I prefer playing the pick on the bass that makes it so aggressive.
Haha well I appreciate that! I love the aggressive sound too!

I usually use a pick for fast songs that are tiring for my fingers or for more rocky music
That was actually usefull thanks.
Glad it was helpful! 👍
Using your fingers creates a "round" sound. Whereas using the pic sounds very "pointy" to me.
Man that’s exactly what it sounds like!
