      That’s what I did! I already learned 15 knot drops and one normal drop. Knot drops are extremely easy btw I would totally recommend those. Unique Aerialists has a video on those too.

      LindseyRussell tips:
      Be VERY careful
      Warm up well
      Don’t make up things
      Don’t be scared of drops if you are 100% sure you tied yourself the right way
      Have fun
      Hope this helps :)

      Sophie Jordan in case you wanted to know I got 8m silks for £80ish from firetoys I rigged them from a tree (which you are not really supposed to do but nevermind 😂) on a pully system where I could take the silks down when it rained.

    Oh my goodness I just started silks about 3 weeks ago and I did it in my home on the ceiling of the living room with a crappy rope from Lows and you helped me soooooo much! Everyone else made drops look soo much harder, but you made it look easy and I finally got the confidence to try a drop! Turns out I am really good at them, and learned 3 in one night!!! Thank you soooooo much. I don't even know how to pay you back. I would give you $100 if I could. Seriously, thank you. By the way, I am 10 years old.

      If you are 10 years old and trying drops, solo, after three weeks of introductory skills, I am quite worried. Three weeks is an inappropriate amount of time to be doing drops with little experience. Please seek out a good trainer to help you learn safely. Make sure you always have a mat under you, are never alone when you practise. Silks need to be rigged by qualified people and your house structure taken into account, particularly because of the forces involved in drops.

    do you have any tips for not being afraid? i know it’s kind of stupid because it’s “aerial” silks, but i always get ready to do a drop and i can’t do it because i’m too afraid. i feel like i’m going to die:(

    • @UniqueAerialists
      @UniqueAerialists  6 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      So many of my students are like that! It's completely natural and good to feel fear! Don't put any pressure on yourself to do drops you're not comfortable with, there are so many silks moves you don't have to do drops at all if you don't want to. Make sure you build up to drops gradually, try a few small drops using the knot first until you feel comfortable with these before trying the harder drops. You can try really breaking the drop down - getting into the position of the drop, then coming out of it and going into the end position. Do the drop really slowly if possible. Make sure you have someone with you to show you as many times as you need to fully understand the drop. Hope some of those help!

      I’ve been scared of drops for almost 2 and a half years, but with the help of my friend pressuring me and promising cookies, she finally got me to do a drop. I felt so powerful being able to conquer it. I became scared after I didn’t catch the silk and fell flat on my face onto a mat. I wasn’t hurt, but I’ve been scared ever since. While I was still scared I would get into the position and try to slowly come down, step by step, feeling my way down. Great way to start learning a drop.

      Learning in person with a good instructor is the best way to learn. If that's not possible then signing up to a tutorial site is the next best option. I have hundreds of aerial silks tutorials on academy.uniqueaerialists.com they all have audio and written instruction, slow motion and close up shots, linked pre-requisites and common mistakes. I hope that helps! I definitely would not recommend trying to learn from youtube as most videos aren't step by step tutorials meaning you could miss an important bit of information about the move.

    Random question--how high is your ceiling. I've been afraid to try these tricks at home because my ceilings are only 14ft. You look like you're right up at the top--maximizing the space--and have just enough room.

    • @UniqueAerialists

    Do you have any tips for making the star drop not hurt as much?

    • @UniqueAerialists
      @UniqueAerialists  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It can be such a painful one, I honestly thought my leg had been amputated the first time I did it!! The more you practise it the less painful it will become as your body will learn that it is not in danger so will gradually decrease the pain receptors to your brain. Also make sure your body is engaged so you don't flop into it.

    For the first version of the straddle drop, u can also catch the silks mid drop. It's a lot more fun, and it 2as how I was taught it. I would say try and catch mid drop, but if your nervous his the ends before dropping. When I say mid drop, u basically fall forward and if u hold your hands out they will naturally come into contact with the silks

    Hi! I've been doing aerial silks for a few months now. I've been struggling lately as the silks slide off quite easily. My coach says that, since the temperatures dropped quite a lot, this is common. Do you have any advice to prevent them from sliding? I need to master the split balance without locks (just 3 wraps) and they keep sliding off (they didn't do that when it was hot). I have tried pouring water on my legs but didn't really work.

    • @UniqueAerialists
      @UniqueAerialists  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your coach is right, this is so common! Usually it's just people's hands sliding though, if you're trying to do silks with bare legs then definitely wear leggings! The material of your clothes affects how much you slide as well so make sure you're not wearing clothes that are slippery. For hands and feet you need some moisture, I usually find after 10 minutes or so people have warmed up enough that their hands start to sweat slightly which is enough to get good grip. Or you can try putting a small amount of water on your hands and let it mostly dry. Or you can buy grip aids to help you, I have students use these as a last resort but they do work. Hope that helps!

      Hi, try sickling your feet around the silks, cross your legs to grip the silks between your legs as well as on your feet and move your hands down one at a time so you still have grip with your other hand :) hope that helps!

      You can make sure the silks aren't twisted and are in the correct place, unfortunately it generally just takes time for your body to build up tolerance to the pain!

    I tried to do the slack drop but when I dropped I still kind of held on a little bit just to make sure I wouldn’t fall to the floor and thank God I held on because I totally fell and I didn’t do anything wrong I just fell

    • @UniqueAerialists
      @UniqueAerialists  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, the extra wrap should prevent this, the wrap will be tight around your leg so when you drop so you just drop the distance of the slack you pulled through. (Obviously make sure you haven't pulled too much slack!) If you drop into the slack then the silks slide around your leg causing you to continue dropping then you can add another wrap. I hope that helps! The full, in depth tutorial for the slack drop is here academy.uniqueaerialists.com/courses/drops-and-rolls-silks/lectures/12219152

    😀

    • @UniqueAerialists
      @UniqueAerialists  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends what you want to do on the silks, my ceiling is 15ft and I can do most things apart from long drops. If you want to do lots of drops you'll need a higher ceiling or if you want to use it for mostly conditioning or practising footlock moves or knot moves then the ceiling can be fairly low :)
