I don't want the SlowMoGuys and HR collab to ever end
seriously one of the best collabs eh? I was giggling the whole time :)
The self deprecating banter is just too funny. Ya na!
How Slow Mo? Slow Ridiculous?
@@kennethbutler9164 Ridiculously Slow
amen
Still blown away by that on-the-fly metric conversion.
Absolutely love you guys
Won't lie, this American was impressed as hell...
It helps to remember an inch is about 25mm, makes converting on the fly easy. (Maybe it's easier coming from using inches natively?)
@@IAmJustAGuy240 Why would anyone follow you when you have no content? We're not stupid. Video something with your phone, post it, people will watch it and judge with their follow (or not). Begging for follows with no content is just lame.
The drone shot around 3 min makes it look like a toy model version😂
The Slowmoguys & HR might just go to down as the best collaborations in all of TH-cam history. I literally could not stop smiling throughout this entire video.
They seriously ought to consider merging their channels - both the content and the personalities mesh together incredibly well. And of course they could still create content individually, as well. If I were either of their managers, I would 100% be at least looking into the possibility.
Side channel only
That tilt shift drone photography was INCREDIBLE!!!!!! 3:05
I legit had a flashback to watching Gumby as a kid.
Definitely
It looked like Mr. Rogers neighborhood or something it was so weird, why is that?
@@Jsmitt716The tilting of the lens changes the depth of field in a way that mimics how an eye focuses on objects that are close. Makes it look like they're small objects near you instead of normal objects far.
@@TunaIRL awesome, thanks for the explanation it's such a cool effect
1.25 inches is actually 31.75 millimeters so impressive conversion by Gaunson
Yeah, I was impressed.
Took me a good minute to convert 1 inch into 2.5cm/25mm to realize that I agree with his conclusion 😂
That’s wild
What they don't know is when Americans say mil, they are referring to a thousandth of an inch.
Let's Go Gaunson!
I love that no one even questioned what adding a second bowling ball might do to the jeep. Everyone immediately said "YES! That's the best idea ever, and we are doing it."
Hey at least it still rolls.
I genuinely love how enthusiastic those guys were. Honestly feel that while How Ridiculous and Slow Mo Guys were the hosts and focus of the camera work, Shaun and Craig need more praise for their work here too. Would love to see them collab with both teams again in the future.
Sounds like me and my buddy's when I was younger. And I'm from Texas!
the kind of people who build a bowling ball cannon on a jeep, are not the same people who go "hmm is this safe"
@Zalied yes that's true, even though they make sure that everyone will be as safe as they can. You kind of forget that they still try to do the craziest things lol.
The comedic chemistry between the Aussies on one hand and the Brits on the other was just remarkable. Everyone was funny, but together they were greater than the sum of their parts 😆
I agree!!
The reflection of the cracks in the glass is due to the fact that the frame has a much larger elastic deformation range than the glass. The force that causes the glass to crack bends the frame (very slightly) like a leaf spring. The frame recoils, sending the force back into the glass.
The bottom corners don't crack much because there is less bending stress there. The bottom of the window frame supports the glass like a beam. Beams like this tend to have the highest bending stress in the middle, with negligible bending stress at the edges.
100%
Exactly what I was going to say if I knew the answer.
I love how everyone was immediately excited about putting two balls into the cannon. No one had an ounce of doubt.
Adding a second ball didn't add any extra energy to the blast, the jeep was going to buckle anyway. Its very likely the many rounds over the whole day (in the other video there was quite a few shots) and the one overcharge they did in the other video probably stress fractured the jeep's frame. Also if they had only done 1 ball the fiber glass would have 100% captured that single ball.
I'm shocked they both came out whole.
@@BlueScreenCorpAdding an extra ball didn't add extra energy no, but it did add extra _recoil._ I.e., it increased the amount of energy that went into the jeep instead of the balls.
@@yaksherrecoil is not energy taken away from the projectile, it is simply the inverse action. Third Law of Physics
@@BlueScreenCorpQuick search shows that the mass of the projectile affects the recoil, so the second bowling ball added more recoil and therefore more stress on the chassis for the jeep.
I tell you what, the chemistry with everyone there was amazing. You guys look like you all got along famously. More videos in the future! Yearly Montana trips!
These two channels coming together feels so very natural, as if y'all had been mates for years all together... great fun to watch, do more of it please! =)
This is the best collab that could have ever happened. The banter is absolutely hilarious. Love this stuff guys!
Yeah..if we had a Canadia and a Irishman in there we'd have all bases covered. Haha
them learning new slang terms back and forth had me dying.
The chemistry between these guys is legendary. We need a new 'The How Ridiculously slow-mo guys' channel 😂🎉
Some ridiculous slow-mo guys*
Yess! I was just gonna ask for more collabs but a new channel would be even better
This is it @@Cynixx
How ridiculously slow
Ridiculously slomo. Or How Guys lol
I simply love how there was no convincing needed when you asked if you could fire two balls. It's such a ridiculous thing but I love this collab and was genuinely fascinated by the results. Thanks!
Sean was ABSOLUTELY right about the fiberglass, and deserves recognition for it.
Love the tilt-shift lens effect at 3:06, it looks like a toy car firing a tiny little cannon :P
I noticed this too! It threw me off I thought it was a scale model or something ahaha
Such an awesome shot!
I legitimately paused the video at 3:10 to see if anyone else appreciated that shot. I love that effect!
I said the same thing
Caught me off guard too. A little confused why they didn't mention it at all, wondered if this was an accidental tilt-shift result or this was purposefully done. Looked great either way.
I feel Shaun deserved a bit more credit on the results of that final shot. That sitch was all surprises and there was a lot to get distracted by, but he kinda called it.
This needs many many more upvotes. Apparently boats being made out of fibreglass was correct vs 1 bowling ball!
The thing is, this is WOVEN fiberglass, whereas boats I believe are made just like showers, where it's layers consisting of random fibers.
However, I won't deny that he wasn't wrong in a sense! They did not *penetrate* the fiberglass. Although, they did *_defeat_* it!
Definitely would've been interesting to see what the results would be with the fiberglass being secured better. Can't fault the door maker though, as conventional bullets simply lack the kinetic energy to do what the bowling balls did. 😅
@@DUKE_of_RAMBLE it depends on the type of boat, but you're right that the boats Shaun (sorry if I misspell his name) was probably thinking of are likely not made of woven fibreglass. Then again, that's not what he claimed - he merely mentioned that the fibreglass he was thinking of is extremely strong. Little did he know that the fibreglass in this door would be even stronger. The material getting torn out of the door was mainly the result of the delayed impact of the second ball - it's almost a shame that they put the second ball in, I'm convinced the door would have stopped a single one, probably no different if they'd used an aluminium one either (since I expect the weight to be similar).
Shooting a single bowling ball at the hull of a small recreational fishing boat, and perhaps a couple of surfboards might be nice to further explore the strength of fibreglass materials :).
The synergy in this series is world-class!
That tilt-shifted drone shot at 3:06 is beautiful. *chefs kiss*
Gav and Dan have possibly the greatest collab success rate ever. Their champagne uncorking video with Rhett and Link years ago was absolutely incredible. Just great, natural chemistry with everyone they meet.
YES! Their minds are rapid.... amazingly hilarious.
Seen the Kentucky ballistics one yet? It's top notch
Science behind the bending cracks in the glass. The glass is stabilized on the edges of the frame, and there is surface tension on the edge of the glass, which is greater than the decreased tension due to the existing glass breakage. The cracks therefore travel along the path of least resistance, rather than out to the edge of the glass.
This type of spider web cracking is called cleavage cracking, and where the longer cracks formed after deflecting from the stronger edge of the glass is where the glass was weakest to begin with.
Don't forget the science behind bending an assault-jeep!
@@PhotonHerald Do you really want me to explain it?
@@XtomJamesExtra Yes.
@@XtomJamesExtrayes.
@@brad2751 Okay, the necessary charge to fire two of the bowling balls was sufficient to create enough kickback from the discharge of the gunpowder and bowling balls to force the cannon backwards following an arc equal to the 1/3(2pir) where r is the length of the cannon to the mounting point. Since the canon is locked in position, that kickback had nowhere to go, so the energy and force was pushed into the frame of the Jeep at the mounting point. The force produced exceeded the tensile and compressive strength of the underlying steel frame, causing it to bend or buckle. Given the age of the Jeep used, it's likely the steel has weakened overtime.
In effect the canon acted like a can crusher. The canon itself was a fixed lever.
I love both of these crews. I've watched so many of both 44club and the slowmo guys, loving these colabs.
Having my 2 favourite channels on TH-cam together says everything. You get on do well. It is perfect. Thank you 🙏
The banter between us Brits and Aussies never fails to make me laugh. Truly our brothers from the other side of the world.
The cannon crew were top notch too. Clearly very knowledgeable and loved their jobs.
All round a brilliant video.
And here I'm in sweden just enjoying the show.😅
And them Montana boys were game for anything too!
well technically our sons and daughters but hey. i still think one of them nicked my pen knife.
That bowling ball truck cannon guy deserves so much more recognition! He was great ❤️
When I say bowling ball truck cannon guy, I of course mean Craig Beals by the way.
@stoshhatch8988 he really does. Kind of wish they gave him a little more light.
Hahaha, he seemed like he was just happy to be there, like "oh, this is great! sure, yeah, two balls, go for it! whatever!"
100%, these are some obviously incredibly intelligent guys and I for one could watch a whole video on just the build!
He was BRILLIANT!
The valuable and confident contribution of "I heard metal and stuff!" made me smile real big. 5:55
These joint ventures are superb. Please do more of them. I seem to remember some years ago we got together with the Canadians and New Zealanders. Bloody good bunch of blokes right where and when they are needed most. Best YT videos for months.
Craig and Shaun are absolute gems. Love their energy
They’re so so likeable. I can’t explain it, they’re just so charming
14:09 they said he was crazy for choosing fiberglass, but the fiberglass did stop the first ball
The shot at 3:07 looks like it was done with a tilt shift lens, looks really cool.
I stopped the vid and went back to re-see it. It all looked minature to me because of the way the grass looks much bigger then it is. Is a crazy shot.
Crazy and awesome. Would love to know more.
Yeah, it's probably just a tilt-shift effect edited in afterwards since tilt-shift lenses are rarely used anymore, but I love the effect. I'm always amazed how things look so much different just from blurring the top and bottom 3rd of the image. Love it!
@@KdAkim91 same, you would think it was a toy if you didnt know.
felt like a the scene was made from toys
That's Ridiculous are the designers and The Slowmoguys are the kinetics ballistics team. GREAT joint effort. The fiberglass door was impressive. You can see exactly how all of the flexion dynamics are working. Great shots! Hope the Jeep is ok.
I’m sure you have had a number of people answer. But the reason the cracks merged at the bottom is that when the glass is being flexed, it becomes the weakest point and the crack follows that weakest point.
Amazing video! Hopefully I can make videos half this engaging! Best to you all!!
Favorite quote, “they make boats out of fiberglass, so it will definitely stop a bowling ball!”
My good friend Shaun has the oddest rationale!!!
But he was right. 😂
Noy about boats not breaking. That one sub was made if fiberglass lol. Could been cause the double ball too, cause it splits the kinetic energy between them
Technically the fiberglass held up. If the fiberglass wasn't ripped out of the frame it would have caught it. That is however assuming they only loaded one ball worth of charge so the ball is technically half the power coming out since the energy is split between the mass of both balls. If they doubled the charge, could explain the jeep folding lol, then thats pretty impressive of that door. Unlike glass or polycarbonate that shatter, fiber glass can bend and draw out more energy from the ball.
@@nuahavizucarbon fiber you mean
I say the next video should be "How Many Fiberglass Boats Stops a 500 mph Bowling Ball?"
Can we stop and admire that tilt shift shot for a second??? That was amazing!
Ikr? So short but so we'll done
We don’t have to stop and admire it in the comments. We did it watching the video.

I was thinking the same thing, I could watch this kind of footage tilt shifted all day.
It’s such a big impact for such a small clip. It always amazes me when it’s done so well.
The chemistry between all of you guys is great. I hope you guys can collab at the HQ and/or the dam at some point
Such a fun collab. The shortening of the jeep bowling ball cannon was hilarious :)
I don't want this collab to ever end. It's a true blessing

The chemistry between these guys really makes it feel like they've known each other forever. I'd love to see more collabs between them.
The amazing slow mos have always been my favorite videos. This is such a natural collaboration

What an awesome video! Between blowing stuff up and getting nice slowmo footage the vibe was just very enjoyable and the editor did a great job of carrying that „behind the scenes vibe“ through.
The banter between HR, Gav and Dan, and the cannon guys was awesome.
Best collab ever!
What makes this collab different than most is that they have chemistry and laugh and joke. Others seem so forced and awkward
Agreed, I think that's just aussies and brits. Both have the same banter and quick wit
Man the dynamic between you guys and slo-mo are hillarious! I love it
This is a mutually beneficial collaboration, how ridiculous has lots of fresh new ideas/personality and slowmo guys have the equipment and knowledge
Who knew how ridiculous and the slow mo guys would make such an amazing duo haha
They force how ridiculous to calm down.
I asked for this years ago.
When I saw the thumbnail and the title I was actually really hoping Gav and Dan were in the video.
Everyone.
I did lol :D
When adding the second cannonball you need to significantly reduce the powder load since the extra inertia will increase the pressure inside the cannon significantly. They were lucky that the cannon was overbuilt and didn't explode.
Yeppers. I very much expected the back of that cannon to just explode, but it looks like it transferred the energy through the frame instead.
When I saw thay second ball go in I thought 'I think I would stand a bit further away.'@@Nightenstaff

A normal channel?!?
There is nothing normal about any of those guys.
It is great though.
i guess he meant to say that it feels like they have been working on this channel together for ages......
And so, it does not feel like it is a collab.
Some collabs are horrible to watch. The chemistry is not there. The people do not know what they want to talk about with eachother. Nothing rehearsed. Just a bunch of content creators coming together in a video acting like crazy.
This on the other hand feels like if they have been working together ever since the birth of this channel.
Capici?

The most amazing (and concerning) thing about all of this is how consistently and drastically everyone underestimates the forces involved here. This applies to their trampoline video too.
Ya, as soon as they were like "let's put two balls in", I was like "Oh no! O_O"
Having two bullets go off in the chamber of a gun kills people.
I completely agree. I'm not a physics expert or rocket surgeon, but I've seen some things and that thing is terrifying. I don't think these guys really understand the forces (and potential forces) at work here. Seeing the "breech plug" (blind flange bolted on with half the bolts) and watching him light the cannon fuze with his head in the muzzle really gave me the willies.
@@glowcube Not to be a downer here, but usually having one bullet go off in the chamber of a gun kills people too XD

The tilt-shift photography with the drone footage making it look like a tiny toy when you you know it's actually a full-sized Willis Wrangler blasting a cannon ball is AWESOME.
Edit: @3:06
I'm trying to figure out what it is about that shot that makes my brain think it's a toy setup. It's something to do with the lighting and focus, but it does become much more pronounced when in motion.
@@kindlini think its the blur on the edges on the frame, which makes it look like its being filmed through a magnifying glass or something

I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw it that way.
Very sure It was done on purpose in post? Tilt shift effect
Tilt shift.
Thank you!!! Ya I was so confused!!!!!
I’m so glad someone else thought this. I literally went back and paused it thinking for some reason they created a miniature version
Can we appreciate how the drone shots make it look like a diorama. I love this affect and i want to see more of it.
The show Dollhouse used this effect with broad cityscapes in the title sequence. I like it too. It's called the miniature effect, miniature faking, or diorama illusion, for those who'd like to learn more.
I just commented saying this, makes it look like a toy 🤣
It's called tilt shift, you can achieve it with special lens (literally tilt-shifted) or in post production with simple blur tool.
I love tilt shift photography, it's such a simple trick yet so effective at fooling the eye. I've seen some tilt shift photos where I would barely convince myself that it was NOT toys
12:21
the reason the cracks deviate their path from the wall is the same reason for why they deviate again to converge at the bottom
The closer the crack gets to the wall, the more tensile strength there is. Eventually the crack reaches a point where lateral resistance is greater than vertical resistance, thus redirecting it's path downward.
The reason the Downward cracks then deviate again and converge in the middle is the same.
Because the middle of the pane is where it's weakest. All those cracks, just like lightning in a storm, have a singular goal. To transfer energy using the path of least resistance
Amaaaazing episode! Teaming up with THE slow-mo guys is a big winner! You guys just keep on getting better content!

What great chemistry
Lots of fun to watch. Regarding the fiberglass door. 1st ball plowed thru the first layer then got caught up on the fiberglass layer that was bending over which significantly slowed and lifted (or deflected?) the first ball upward from initial trajectory. The second ball came in behind the first ball while remaining on initial trajectory struck the first ball, which was now higher and slower, so struck it below the trajectory centerline and then continued on moving faster thus passing it by while the first ball, being struck from below was lofted into an arc significantly deviating from the initial trajectory.
