Since you seem to do a lot of it, tell me, what is the actual goal? A clean flat cut or to just pop the cork? Getting a cut completely below the cork or partway up the embedded cork so that is still pops nicely? Because I always thought it would be best to get just the cork and leave the rim, more like Rhett's try, though I suppose since the technique involved sliding the blade against the bottle then it doesn't make sense to expect it to skip over the rim.
@@dothedo3667 All depends on the culture of it. Some have the goal of popping the cork out, some have the goal of a nice clean cut like Gav's. I always go with what I view as the most satisfying, efficient, and effective way of not only opening the bottle, but also keeping the champagne inside.
Ironically it's not actually perfect, the whole point is to break only a tiny portion of the bottle very clean and leaver a perfect ring around the cork.
