      Destiny - yes!! My maternal grandmother was light bright with green eyes -- a Black woman from Kentucky. Her husband dark skinned as was my Mom. Grandma was so very hard on my mother actually treating her like a step child as Mom grew up in West Virginia's coal mine area (Farmington & Grant Town). So half my siblings are dark skinned & the other half light -- as were my mother's. We have come a long way but still more to accomplish. I'm glad we at least realize the physical & mental damages & start to heal!!

      I absolutely agree! Hair in its natural state is the best😊It's all about maintaining it and taking good care of it which I feel like a person can learn if they don't know.

    • @Star3marie304
      @Star3marie304 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @TheOliviapreston Agreed. I feel like when a child becomes old enough (like teen age or even at least wait til age 12 or 13) to make their own hair choices and is choosing within her own self to get a weave or relaxer in her hair then that's at least better because they are waiting. But I have to admit I was damn shocked when I saw that mom put a relaxer in her 3 year old daughter's hair! The chemicals in that toddler's hair just made me so sick. She is still a baby. And honestly when I saw that 8 year old bi racial daughter of the white blonde mom, she did not look 8 years old at all. With her hair permed like that, she looked like she was 11 going on 12 and that's sad because childhood goes by fast enough and that mom is crazy to say she doesnt have an hour in the morning to put ponytails in her daughters hair. I feel like since she made a baby with a black man, she signed up for this...taking care of her daughter's hair naturally and not taking the "easy" way out as she states of putting in a weave. Her daughter even said she doesn't like getting the weave put in. Being a caucasian mom is no excuse either, I know plenty of white moms of biracial daughters who have learned to do their daughters' beautiful hair, doing cute, age-appropriate styles like ponytails, braids, puff balls cornrows, etc. And learned from a black woman how to do it. So it's no excuse to just say it's too hard to fix your kid's hair in its gorgeous natural state---however curly, thick, or "nappy" it may be! No matter what race the mother may be. P.s. sorry for long paragraph lol! I was just passionate after watching the whole show! Good luck on your hair career! You can have a great effect on these young girls that may come to you with their moms!😊

    @shigura12 10 ปีที่แล้ว +245

    Good hair is healthy hair. Doesnt matter if its nappy hella curly or kinky, if its well groomed and taken cared of, thats some good hair.
    Hair style is a personal preference, and your race shouldnt affect it, i do not like weaves, and i think its just a waste of GOOD hair. natural will always surpass fake.

    This 'White girl flow' is a joke because my natural hair moves and shakes more than hers does. And I don't have to be afraid of water or deal with sores on my head or worry about my hair on vacation because I take care of my beautiful hair on my own.
    There are various textures that fall under the heading of 'Afro' hair. Afro hair is not 'nappy' by nature. Hair that isn't well maintained (re: moisture and the right skincare routine) is at risk for breakage and matting (which is a sign of tangles and improper maintenance). This is because society has sold the delusion that Black hair is inferior/ugly/unkempt messy and few products in the mainstream market cater to the various textures of natural hair. Its very sad to see Black women who have taken in so much internalized racism they think that 'Euro' hair is all their is (when really, everyone but Black women have hair that can be maintained with 'mainstream' products). We're on the fringes because institutionalized racism and rather than educating ourselves and our children, people are resorting to chemicals (which burn the scalp - I've had them happen to me) and not asking deeper questions. Extremely troubled by this.

    I'm sooooo glad we have come a long way since this show aired. Black women are going back to their natural hair in droves and it's so beautiful. For a long time we have processed our hair because we were never taught how to accept and take care of how our hair naturally grows. Now there's so much information out there to do just that. I have been natural for almost 6 years now and it was one of the best AND healthiest decisions I ever made. And if you relax your hair, I'm sorry it is not healthy. It may look healthy but it's not. You're putting a CHEMICAL on your scalp....how is that healthy? We have also been conditioned to hate ourselves and our hair stemming from centuries ago. I'm just glad we are embracing our beautiful selves. I hate when black women say "good hair" vs "bad hair" There's no such thing. There's kept and unkept hair. There's a big difference.

I'd like to think she was embarrassed and that being confronted made her realize that she'd never asked or had stopped asking her daughter how she felt about this. Its not healthy to wash hair everyday!! Indian woman wash their hair maybe twice a week. The rest of the time its moisturized in coconut oils etc.... I'm italian and have very similar hair to indian woman, and i wash my hair twice a week and condition with tons of oils. Of course i shower of everyday and take baths, but washing hair every day is a BIG NO NO! =)

    This is an amazing subject. Wearing natural hair is a black consciousness that you have to grow into. It's a heighten level of self love. I have been natural for three years but to make my morning easier weaves and braids help. My hairdresser and I are very close but over the years I have stopped going to her every week and start doing my own hair. I am planning to cut it and wear a low cut

    I just got to say, that I'm black and I used to be ashamed of my hair all the time!! I constantly permed it and straightened it to the point where it fell out and became uneven. So I had to get it cut even and I wore it to school in an afro to learn a lesson.
    Years later, I don't perm or straighten it. My hair is naturally curly, and I'm proud of it!! So African American ladies: Don't be ashamed of your natural curly or nappy hair!! Wear it with pride because it's a part of who we are :)

Don't put your body through that kind of pain, be proud of who you are because you have something special. I use to dye my hair a lot-used bleach a lot to obtain lighter colors, and that started to break apart my hair. For those few years I loved it cuz I thought I looked like a black barbie, it was nice & straight and amazing to me. when I was about 10 to 11 I started disliking it. not only does it hurt but it burns and sometimes breaks my hair. I am 13 now and I HATE it. I really want to go natural but my mum won't let me. I know that when I am older I will go natural and I won't care what my mum says. When I have kids..if they are black, I will never perm their hair. I may straighten it with a straightening iron or something every once in a while for hairstyle but I will not perm it.
