    Thank you sir! I broke the key off to my front door! Sent a friend to Home Depot, they didn't have the mini hacksaw, but had something called a precison kit. Us two ladies, in the dark, were able to get the key out! Saved $100! You're a God send. THANK YOU!

    Your tips are still working, this one was a big help. The key was already turned in the door lock but was really tight, we thought we could get it locked, but the head of the key broke off. We tried a number of techniques but since the key was so tight in the lock nothing was working. We saw your video then wanted to try the broken jigsaw method but had a hard time with that. We also used the WD40. A friend with experience with broken keys in locks helped us figure out [tip] to use a big screw driver . . . since the key was already in the lock, we should be able to unlock using the big screw driver. This way we were able to open the door, then take the lock apart from the inside. After picking, we still had difficulty getting the broken key out, however, the friend didn't know about the broken jigsaw, so he gave that a try and that worked to finally get the broken key out. So your tips gave 3 old farts some new tools. Thanks again.

    I broke my key 2 days ago by accidentally sitting on it. Guessing it was already chipped. But I was in no mood to call for a ride and wait hours in the cold so I stuck it in and went home. Watched this video this morning, so after work I went to Walmart and asked a mechanic if they sold any broken key extractor tools. He literally laughed at me in my face and said, "You need a locksmith for that." Then looked at his buddy with that "what a stupid woman" look on his face.
    Bought some WD-40 and left. That same night I removed the broken key with only a tiny screwdriver I got for a dollar that came in a pack. Didn't even need the WD stuff. I'm so happy I fixed it on my own. So thankful for this vid, but I really want to take my broken key and jam it into Walmart's key copy machine while that jerk is working.

      ***** Posting that comment helped me get it off my chest. And you made me feel better about it too. Next time I have a problem like that, I'll take myself to home depot. Something about those Walmart mechanics is just off. Thank you for understanding. I was afraid I sounded a bit edgy.

    I am a locksmith. I would like to move to your town where people pay $300 to have me come out and remove a broken key. I guess if I had to originate a transponder key for their car I could get at least a couple thousand!
    PS I gave you a thumbs up. Any locksmith that gives you a thumbs down because he thinks this video is "hurting them" (it definitely is not) is a fool.
    Thanks for the lesson!

    Dino, I want to say it’s good people like you that make the world go ‘round. This video should be the first search result. I know it would’ve saved me a lot of grief if it had been. I broke a key in my car ignition real deep. Tried a ton of things, spent a day at it. I was at my wits end. Found this video and it saved me. Bought one of those coping blades. I had to use a Dremel to make it fit and out it came! It was so deep I had to also use a paper clip to push down two pins so it would slide out and it worked. God bless you man!

I didn't have any of the tools you mentioned, so I dripped canola oil drop by drop into the lock using a hijab pin and slowly extracted the key with a safety pin, then yanked it out with tweezers. I cannot thank you enough! Last night I got home from work to walk my dog, and just as I turned to key in the lock, it turned to butter and just disintegrated in my hand, with half in the lock. Luckily I was able to open the door, but 1st thing this am I went to Home Depot for WD-40 and some thin hack saw blades. They guys there were laughing at me. I got home, followed your directions in in less than 30 seconds the key was out! You saved me over $125 with a local lock smith! YAYYYY!

I then asked for mini hacksaw blades and got strange looks and he directed me to a bigger blade that was useless. I then walked the aisles myself and found the right blade - this worked in 1 minute one the garage door with the WD40 and I can’t thank you enough!

  • @kg4boj

    This may work on a building door lock, however many complications may arise when doing this on an automotive lock, the parts (mostly "wafer" or "disc" tumblers/pins/wafers) inside most car locks are much thinner, have thinner than hair springs, and delicate dust covers/shutters/key buzzer mechanisms which may be exposed to tool damage and irreparably damage the ignition or trunk lock requiring a sparkle wrench (aka drill) to carefully remove and often times source a dealer only part for over 100$ his cost available in 2 days. If this is in a door you can access otherwise or work around (for a week to save for repairs) than feel free to experiment.
    However in my 12 years of experience in broken key extractions the most successful has been with single females who had the instinct to leave a situation out of their control in the hands of someone who has not only the right tools but also the experience in using them across a broad range of vehicles. My advice is if its a lock on a door you can live with replacing (25-95$ diy)and have an alternate way in or out than the rapping method can work if struck at the right angle to compress the pin springs and expel the key via inertia overcoming friction than try it on a soft surface. But shop around for a locksmith via phone for approximate prices before you even think about touching a broken off car key. If you can grab it with pliers and it sticking out of the lock and it broke because of an accident you can try, but if it broke because it was hard to turn to begin with, or wouldn't turn back to lock, or had to be played with to work than even if you get it out and duplicated it may be a broken/damaged/repairable lock that needs a locksmith to make you either new keys, and/or program those keys, or fix whatever is wrong with the lock or what it connects to.

      @toppertruthio 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      well if your keys stuck in your car ignition,your pretty much buggered anyway,either way it works out expensive

    • @kg4boj
      @kg4boj 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      toppertruthio what's more expensive; 65$ for a locksmith to pluck out and duplicate your key, or 150$ for a dealer only ignition part and 50-60 in labor.

    A thousand thanks. My key snapped in my van vault lock. The lock still operated with the remainder of the key pushed into the lock. I managed to remove the lock mechanism from the lid and on the back of the lock was a pin hole. Having watched your video where you drilled a hole into the lock, I went and found a small/micro screwdriver and I pushed this into the hole at the back of the lock and wow out popped the broken/snapped off piece.
    Fortunately Van Vault come with 3 sets of keys so I still have 2 and we are back in business. 5 stars to you👍

    Thank you So So much! I just retrieved a broken key from my security gate! I used your fundementals but improvised. Used a really thin nail and hammered it flat, after applying lube, I slipped it in and applied a bit of pressure and the key popped out enough forthe needle nose pliers to do the rest! You sir, are a legend!

    After trying everything I could think of to remove a broken key from a lock, I turned to TH-cam and found your video. The technique that looked to be the most promising was the mini-hacksaw blade, and I happened to have one in my shop. I cut it in half, as the ends had hardware on them to attach to the hacksaw frame, but it was still a bit too wide (back to teeth) to fit in the very tiny space between the broken key and the cylinder, so I used a metal "nibbling" tool to taper the back side (bringing the blade to a point), and it fit right in. I gave it a tiny twist to allow the teeth to try to "dig into" the broken key, pulled, and the broken key shot out across my shop. THANK YOU for an excellent video!!!
