How to remove a broken key in a lock!

- Most people don't have fancy Locksmith tools and occasionally find they broke a key off inside their lock.
DON'T PANIC! There is a way to get it out without the stupid superglue or other gimmicks. I'm trying to use every day items you may find in your home, car, or around the house to help you fix it.
If your 1st attempt isn't successful, stay calm and try again.

God bless you good sir!!! You just saved my evening. Key broke off as I was locking my front door this morning. When I came home from work I had a spare key and a pair of pliers from my office. Wasn’t enough key to grab with the pliers. Found a paper clip outside after watching your video (that might be the biggest miracle here) and it helped to get the key out just enough to grab with the pliers. I can’t thank you enough.

Thanks very much. I used your method with a long needle sized dental pick that had a right angle on the end that I use for electronics and it worked the first time. My brother snapped off a key deep inside a Medeco lock and using your technique I extracted the broken key on the first try without using any WD40.
Got a deep broken key out in under 5 minutes using this method. No glue sticks, candles, knives or gimmicks. Thank you!

The biggest reason I made this video is because I have seen the gimmick videos.
One says to put super glue on the head of the broken key and insert it into the lock to connect the 2 halves and then "just pull it out". I had a customer that tried that and ended up superglue the key tip inside the lock.
I extract broken keys all the time and the method I use is this video (but using special tools for it).
Hopefully this helps a lot of people.
I would rather help everyone be able to remove their key and prevent them from from making things worse.

Mike, thank you very much. Your video was the best I found here. Your explanation on how, was the bees 🐝 knees. Got my broken 🔑 out of the ignition. Had to defeat 2 rows of pins and the sensor switch pin all at once. Just bending the tip of the wire information was the key for success. Thanks again.

Thanks. Just had a key break off in the lock. Had the paper clip but no players to bend it. Used the key opening to put a slight bit of paperclip in to bend it in the 45 I needed. Did it the same fashion as you and popped out identical. Thanks again

@TiramisuSW You can reinsert the lock cylinder.
Visit a Locksmith and they can make you a "core key" to put the cylinder back in the lock body.
It's actually able to be put back in using your paperclip but it's a lot easier with the key intended to put it back in.

Didn’t have a paperclip but used a manicure tool and pulled the key out licadee-split. Thank u for the inspo.
2024 I attest, the paper clip technique works! I was successful after less than one minute of effort. You have to get the feel of the inside of the lock to get to the end of it. I got behind the nub of the key and it slipped out. I did douse the lock with WD 40. Thank you very much!

i'm glad you said to use concrete if you have access to a file, concrete, brick walls, stucco walls even asphalt have all saved my but one time or another when i needed to fix something out in the middle of nowhere didn't have a tool i needed. although i can't remember why i needed a long thin piece of metal but i remember one being out in the middle of the desert and driving my car up and down the highway to grind a piece of steel i found into the shape i needed, sometimes you just have to find a way to make what you got work.....
I was skeptical at first after watching other videos and this one but astonishing nonetheless right after this video I tried lubricating with Lysol, amazingly “It worked after several tries, I was amazed and started to yell with happiness. God Bless. Thank you.

Didn't have a safety pin so I bent a long thin nail and used pliers to grip it...came out in 2 tries! Ty! You save my life

Saved me so much stress and money , I just removed my stuck motorcycle key in the tank key hole .
My neighbors stuffed something into both keyholes of our car. So our key doesn’t go in anymore. You think this will work to work out what ever they shoved in there?

Amazing. I snapped my key in the door before going to work and my dad was so angry. Tried this and got the tiny little snapped piece out in like 2 minutes. Cancelled the locksmith call out 😂phew!

I had my car broken into once and the thief left a little tool similar to you paperclip except it is the one the road service people have if you get locked out of your car. It was a new car so when I went looking through it after the little tool left in the glove box stood out as not being there before. I took to the police who I reported it to, and they took from me said worth $200 on the black market. It was like your tool except not home made more professional purpose built. Sounds like a Lishi tool. Once you pick the lock, you can actually decode and make a working key for the lock.
Used to be impossible for people to get their hands on Locksmith tools without proof of being a Locksmith. Now days those businesses don't care who gets victimized as long as they get their money. It's sad....
