One more way I use to get rid of a single color like the last one, is to vectorize the image. The vectorization groups each of the colors in the image. So you just find the color group you want to remove in the svg and delete it.
Can be done in Photoshop, photopea, illustrator and many other editors as well.

Or better, you can just disable the color while vectorizing itself

For the cat, try the Select Color option, use the + option to select your blacks, play with the fuzziness and mask.

You could use the Pen Tool for those complex curves and will yield the most accurate background removal
Open a loop with the Pen Tool and when you come back to the same place where you started Right Click and then choose "Make Selection" Then Right Click again and chose either "Layer over Cut" or Layer Over Copy" and thank me later I know it's complex but trust me it's completely worth it

for the cat one, change to CMYK and use the levels and then select the K channel as a mask

nice video! very helpful!! You could also use the magic wand select tool. Select the black, inverse, the erase away the background... that should be the fastest but would specifically work for your example, not all examples.

Thanks for the video bro. There's a good method that works well for me with black background designs. By going to select> color range. then with the pipe select the black color and you can play with settings if you want and it usually removes everything black (or everything with the color that u have chosen) on your design. Thnx again for the informations you share bro!
Update: it will select not remove the color, but you know the rest of the story (mask and invert if needed.. Etc)

I have found that Canva background removal is actually really good at removing BG from these kinds of fuzzy pictures. And where it removes too much you can paint it back in before finalizing.
