Buy at reasonable price, sell at good low price with solid mechanicals... Smart business model in this climate
cheap cars are selling, it is the expensive cars that are not selling.
That’s what I’ve been thinking too, expensive cars at retail price are just not selling. But then I see dealers and traders selling lots of cars at retail price, so I don’t know if the problem is where it’s being listed or the area?
I like your outlook on life, the main thing is you are content with your lot you are getting a decent turn without ripping anyone off. There’s no point in being the richest man in the cemetery.
Your honesty is serving you well, especially when you ensure a car is in good order before it leaves to the customer irrespective that its been sold. You are genuine and there isn't many types of those dealers left now. Well done and as you say keep it at a manageable level, it works.

Good shout on the work/life balance. Never heard the expression 'busy fool' but it describes perfectly a lot of people I know who miss out on things because they are working themselves to the bone. Good to see things are running well too 👍

Ref your daily runabout - I know loads of tradesmen who run old Xsara Picasso's - Partners/ Berlingo's etc because of the road tax on a small commercial van

I'm glad that you're busy and shifting stock. Although I do like new cars, I also have a massive soft spot for these older cars too and it's good to see people like yourself breathing new life into them and keeping them on the road for another few years.

I've still got a 2008 Clio campus I bought for £2,500 in 2017, it had just 60,000 miles a new MOT service and cambelt.... amazing car, very reliable....in 2024 I can't believe how much the prices have gone up, to buy a car from 2008 now is between £4-5 thousand, even cars from 2000-2 are now selling for over £1k
The £1750 for the Clio is very good value these days

Just be careful you don't burn yourself out,
Get a old boy to do the run around stuff,
Mot,paint jobs,valeting etc.a bit of pocket money

I guess as your selling cars at prices lots of dealers see as their profit margin never mind the selling price, you need to sell a lot of cars to keep the gates open👍

I am surprised at what good value older cars are. I have a 2010 Honda CR-Z hybrid which is a bit of a rarity, as only 4,300 were sold in the UK over 6 years. I paid £5,200 for mine last May, which I thought was a very fair price for a virtually unmarked vehicle with full service history 58k miles and 6 months warranty. It has cost me £60 for an aircon re-gas, a full service and advisory-free MOT for £265. It has not put a foot wrong since then and when you add in the bonuses of £25 VED, group 17 insurance, ULEZ compliant and decent fuel economy, then you can see why I went for one of these. However, your prices make my car look rather expensive!

Never had many problems with Clio's or French stuff in general really regardless of what the Old Wives tales are.

Hi keep up the great Videos, how you find the time is incredible really because you are so busy. Your car choice is great just what people need your price brackets with the cost of living at the moment. So nice to see such lovely cars and so many reliable ones around 2004 to 2009. Me and my friend spend a lot of our spare time going to loads of car garages just to have a browse. My pride and joy is Phoenix Yellow Z4 2006 2.5 6 cylinders and this is crazy because it's ULEZ compliant so no charges for my little old car. Never got round to going to the car auctions and every now and then you manage to bag yourself self some right bargains. All the best and hope you have a fantastic year.
Clio's have self adjusting clutch most are high had one got 35K out of it before I traded it in still didnt slip.
This channel has become a master class in how to succeed at the popular end of the car market.

To give you an idea of the difference between up there and down here in the deep south (Poole Dorset ) I tried a bunch of cheaper cars on the lot, all nice genuine cars with history and under £3,000 ..... 09/ 10 /11 plates etc, have sold one, a Mini ! .... the rest are just sitting week after week after week, all I keep getting told by Mum's and Dad's and customers is "Sorry, they're too old for us, my Son my daughter etc " 😮 never again 😢 5:08

Having just got a new-ish car (4/5 year old) a few months back, I do hope my 61 plate Note is resold at one of these places and is kept on the road. Dealer gave me £1500 in part exchange and said it was in amazing condition for the age and mileage (over 120,000) but that it was most likely going to be scrapped or exported as it was too old for them to sell. Guess the only way I'll find out is when the MOT is due in May.

Does anyone in the UK drive automatics? Manuals are about 2% of the market in Australia. Dealers often won’t take manuals unless they are sport cars.

Lee, how do you fare with warranties on older, lower value vehicles.
Surely there can't be much margins in these by the time you pay business overheads, rent, insurance, advertising, wages etc
Our warranty claims are very low to be fair, we pick what we sell and prep them well for the age of the vehicles, this reduces issues and any claims. There is this perception that you cannot make money selling cheaper cars and disagree with that statement. We are doing very well so far and although there are more money in expensive vehicles because of other products that earn revenue attached to them (finance commission, gap, extended warranty etc) I am very happy with what we earn and what we are selling.
What's the crack with the C4 is it a diesel? I've had a couple now always done well off them and sold straight away as you Will see on my channel. If you ever get any C4 diesels, Puntos, Minis that you don't want to retail let me know as they seem to be the 3 Cars I seem to always end up with somehow. Not complaining as I've always done okay out of them
I’ve had four c4 diesels since 2005, love them. Was going to ask the same question.
@bjephcott1 a lot of traders near me struggle with them but i don't. I love that engine, Mazda, Ford, Peugeot, Citroen, Mini and always done well off them

Love watching from across the pond. 🇺🇸 I’ve always had a question about cars in the UK 🇬🇧. Does the registration stay with the car? First thing I always notice when you show the lot is the cars all have license plates. In the US the cars wouldn’t have plates on a lot like yours. Just curious how your system works over there.
Yes the reg number stays with the car. You can buy personalised plates which you have to pick from a list, you can't just make anything up if you see what I mean. But most people don't bother with personalised plates in the UK. The more distinctive numbers for example EGO 1 will be very expensive!
@@MrNikoid That’s interesting. I collect plates that’s why I was curious. Don’t have British plates yet. Couple of German ones tho. Over here if you buy a car from a dealer you get a temporary registration number (literally written on a piece of paper) that is valid for usually 30 or 60 days while the paperwork is processed by the Department of Motor Vehicles. Your permanent registration is then either sent to the dealer for you to pick up or sent in the mail.
Frustrating process, think you guys have it better. We can personalize too but usually people will think you’re a knob if you have one tho. Lol.
Yes considered a bit knobby here too! Some sensitive souls don't Iike you knowing how old their car is so they buy a personalised plate. (The third and fourth digits on a standard British plate indicate when the car was first registered).
Unless you have personalised plates (as mentioned above) you can instantly tell the age of a car from its plate e.g. 08 is 2008. 68 is Spetember 2018 through to Feb 2019. Just like American manufacturers brought out restyled models every year it was done to encourage sales of new cars. Having a brand new Fiesta on your drive was more prestigious than having an ancient Rolls Royce (something a neighbour has). Originally the plates only changed once a year in August. The problem was that as the idea of having that years plate became more popular it ended up with about 30% of people wanting to collect their new car on the same day.

£2695 for a VW FOX ? madness they are like the worst VWs as they are made in Brazil and very badly at that , theres a review of them on youtube and the exhaust fell off on the test drive lol but if someone's daft enough to pay that money then bite their hand off mate , Hopefully one day you will make enough cash to get our of this country as it wont get better , UK seems to get worse each year sadly.

Yes soon, but currently need to sort out some more better staff arrangements going forward. Currently we are selling enough cars for us to cope with, anymore unless I take on someone else would give issue. Which is why more advertising and website is not right just yet.
