I love Israel.. I lived there a few years ago. It was surreal visiting the places of the Bible…. Walking the streets of Old Town Jerusalem…. I would highly recommend visiting Israel… very safe. You can visit the Red Sea which is breathtaking, The Dead Sea, Masada, Jerusalem, The Mediterranean Sea, the Sea of Galilee, and the River Jordan… all within about 5 hours… there is also Tel Megiddo, (Fields of Armageddon)…. And Jordan and Petra is easily visited from Eilat…. Lest we not forget Caesarea, Haifa and Tabgha… where he fed the masses…
What was it like living in Israel? My uncle lived there for a few years as well when I was a child. It sounds like visiting those places would be interesting. Did you get a chance to visit Nazareth as well?
@trace see, Tel doesn't mean fields, it's Arabic for hill or elevation. So that is to say hills of Armageddon
Megiddo, the remains of which form a tell (archaeological mound), situated in northern Israel near Kibbutz ...
If you don't mind me asking why did you leave?
I remember prostitutes everywhere and pumping babies out behind dumpsters and going right back to work.its also the gay capitol of the world now. They have great sciences going on but it's far from the holy land every thinks it is.
This was more of an eyeopener than I thought it would be. Nice there was some humor mixed in too. All of it is so educational. Thank you so much for sharing!!!

My first BA was in Religious Studies and Elementary Education, which I loved and found useful in many ways. I think I’m just an oddball, who loves watching documentaries like this more than a movie - a “nothing burger.” I wonder with which university this professor is affiliated. What an interesting life he has, such an amazing life’s work too - and - something that can count for eternity, which is the most important part. When I get to heaven: one of the things that I would really love would be for Jesus to show me all over the Holy Land. I’ve often wondered what it was like when He called the disciples and how they went about Christ’s ministry and daily life.
Good luck I think your going to get shown around hell by lucifer

Okay, this might be weird, but I wonder things like how did they brush their teeth? What did they use for soap and shampoo? What did they do when they needed dental work? How did they make their clothes? Did they wear a different outfit every day?how many changes of clothes did they own? How did they cook? What were the female daily duties verses the male? Did they work all day long or did they have more free time than us? What did the normal folk eat daily? Seems bread was a hot item back then. Was it hard for them to get food at times? Because some of the people were following Jesus around just to get fed again. I’m not even kidding when I say I’ve wondered things like this and more many times. Idk why. Sometimes it’s because of something I read in the Bible other times I just have curious moments, I guess. Loved hearing the stories of what it was like living back then. These are some of the things I wonder about. Thanks for sharing them. 😊
when I was in Kenya, they brushed their teeth with these little sticks. Totally serious
It's only been a century or so since most of the world began using products processed and bottled. You can still use natural products like people have done for thousands of years. Grind plants and mix them with oils and lemon to create cleansers and cleaners. People still use a sort of root or plant to clean their teeth. Of course they spun and wove plant fibers or animal hair/wool for fabrics. It is only in recent modern times that people would change their clothes every day. Except for the very small percentage of elite, life was work and more work. That was the life most knew for most of history.
In most ways, there is nothing natural about the ease of our lives today where so many sit to do their jobs and they drive instead of walking, where we can get so much food easily and put in little effort to get it.
This was such an amazing series. Loved every minute of it. Thank you so much x

Religious Studies / Criminal Justice - potato / potatoe
@@gordondean2165 Religious studies & Criminal studies, are two very 'separate & different" fields of study!
Both subjects/topics are very interesting, eye opening & enlightening, in their own right, but they are by no means the same & should never be placed in the same box.
@@INTUITIVENORSK2303I would argue they do. Judicial law falls heavily inline with Christian morales and beliefs, that's why you swear an oath.
Death rates were very high in early childhood and during pregnancy/childbirth. If you survived that, you had a good chance to make it to old age. People didn't just suddenly drop dead at age 30. That is an average, and that average is low because of all the deaths at a young age.
Hmm I’ve actually never thought of this that way. Thank you I feel slightly more enlightened now.
That makes sense.
Figures don’t lie.
30 years old is a mathematical average.
But, people who leave out all of the relevant facts are, basically, liars.
women close to the land were healthy then, it wasn't til they started eating white bread that child birth became a common problem. white bread deprives the bones from proper formation ( hips). city women, rich women, and then victorians and after, ate less healthy food. But children died a lot in europe, where the weather is cold for months.
The same principle held true everywhere most particularly in rural areas until the 20th century. Families had a lot of children to ensure that enough of them would survive to adulthood. Once people moved to town & started having to live in small apartments, the number of children decreased substantially. Of course, living in a big city cost more, so women had to go to work outside the home, so that decreased the rate of childbirth even more since women delayed childbirth longer & had fewer children.
8:05 Jesus his father, his brothers were chipping those stones... incredible! What a family
Lmfao jesus didn't have an earthly father or brothers
@@xSephironx have you even read the Bible?
@Comrade-Canuck Yes. His actual father wasn't human and "brother of christ" was a title given to James of alphaeus not a declaration of actual brotherhood. What are you talking about?
@@xSephironx whether or not you believe Jesus was god, he was still born to a human family. Do you think there is a possibility that this kid, told he was the son of God from birth, was shaped by said external factors and believed he was indeed the son of God/Earthly god, and was given an audience due to his status as the son of God?
Also, if there is a god, and Jesus was indeed his human form, then modern day Christians are by no means following his word.
This is awesome - glued Going to watch again So Taxes went way back wow Learned a lot - need all the bible put into docs like this - Thank you
"Give us this day our daily bread" is not about it at all. At least not from the perspective of Christ's teachings. This phrase refers to our spiritual life, and hence the meaning of it is that we ought to read and study the Word of God daily, not just merely eat food, even if the food (bread) was the main meal for the people at the time. Jesus uses the example of bread because it was the main meal, and most crucial for people. This way Jesus points us to studying the Word on a daily basis as the Main and most important factor to know our Lord God and His expectations, directions, etc, from us. At least this is how I see it.
It is however a very interesting presentation and thank you for making it happen, and putting it here on TH-cam for us all to view it.
During the last supper they ate bread, as it was customary, then Jesus said as you eat this bread think it is me ( body) and drink wine ( blood) the first Eucharist. Once a guy said Catholics are cannibals, I don't know but he most likely has no idea only a priest can change bread into body of Christ and it's a high concept to wrap your head around, or a simple one due to Faith. So, yes it is bread, wheat and water baked in an oven but once it is consecrated by a priest it's the body of Christ.
That's your opinion, but Jesus literally meant that, sustainance/provision. The Bible has many commands of studying the word of God and it interprets itself, don't help God. Provision is very very important.
Actually, daily bread(holy spirit) bread means spirit
With God all things are spiritual.
Was the written word available to everyone then?
Everyone who could and would read.
Amazing. Thank you so much.
There was a question why Jesus sent the lepers to the priests.
The lepers were sent to the priests in order for them to confirm that the leprosy was gone. It's in their job description. Check out Leviticus.
Edit: I'm surprised that it's not mentioned that all use of magic is strictly forbidden according to the Torah /the Bible.

Ecclesiastes 10:19 (NKJV) A feast is made for laughter, and wine makes merry; but money answers everything.

A more accurate description of what the farmers were to let the people glean from their crops was that they let the corners of their fields be gleaned so just imagine a square of land made a circle ⭕️ out of the square that the farmer got the inner circle and the rest was for the people to glean and eat from it. That’s how it’s described in the scriptures.
Interesting.
I've always understood "gleaning" in its historical sense, meaning: being allowed to collect the few missed & spilled grains off the ground after the "real" crop has been harvested. This was a charity, allowed as a favour to the women and children of the poorest people. They would spend g'knows how many hours picking single grains off the ground, and had to show very grateful for it.
@@weethree2070
That’s sounds very likely also but what I said was directly described in the scriptures what they were commanded to allow to be gleaned. I think that way is better choice and find of food not trampled upon.
I live in Israel, and even supermarkets set out boxes of fruits and veggies that have a few bumps and bruises, and let people take what they want. Any usable household item or clothing is set apart from garbage cans, and if you need it, it's there for the taking. I have saved literally thousands of dollars since I moved here, which is a lifesaver considering that I am disabled and on a limited income.

That’s beautiful. Glad your blessed to have that.
There was a little old town near my old home in NJ that had many food boxes full of foods to share with people all over town. It helped me a little bit but the problem only for me is I eat organic and raw and not packaged foods because I know it’s all poisonous processed and dead food and can’t help me heal. But for those that are not on a path as mine, it’s helpful for them and for that I love and appreciate it.
Yep... you gained a new subscriber with this documentary. Excellent job, well done.
Reading God's Word through the viewpoint of an Israeli living back then will have you understanding more, because you're able to SEE more and know WHY it was done a certain way, especially in the customs such as inheritance and marital dowry, weddings and festivals, but most importantly, the Temple and political/societal issues.
The better we can explain the Bible to newcomers so they understand it more easily, the better. I think many people get scared and run away

History and archiologal proof widen our understanding of the past. Making our way of thinking more broader and more flexible in understanding about the tradition and way of life of the people in the ancient time, giving us better understanding about the world we live in at the present.
'The Bible was created during a time where stories were orally passed down over thousands of years.
Stories constantly morphed and changed over time, and the Bible is a collection of these.
This is why it has the nearly identical flood story from Gilgamesh, and why Jesus has the same characteristics as Dionysus, Osiris, Horus, Mithra, and Krishna.
The contradictions and immorality in the stories are not evidence that God is flawed or evil,
but rather that humans invented him, just like the thousands of other gods that we used to but no longer believe in.''
...and to answer the questions of the many fears and mysteries of our universe, like 'thunder' and earthquakes, since there was no science yet.
This is the old Testament.
The ‘new’ Testes is also hearsay since these letters, ‘gospels’ and stories were written by the loyal faithful, the camp followers,
not by objective historians at that particular time,
or by any contemporary writers,
and these tales were written many years after the supposed events of this mythical Jesus.
Thus, there is no verifiable evidence of a Jesus in real documented history.
Then, many of these stories, but not all, as many were not chosen,
[ There are more than just four Gospels but only these four were agreed on ],
were compiled for one self-absorbed converted Roman Emperor in his Nicean Council,
for his expressed purpose of conquest and
control of the people of Europe for his Holy Roman Empire.
He recognised that this was the perfect religion/mythology for the future domination of the populaces.
Half of the stories were ignored by the Nicean Bishops and none have been proven to be based on fact.
This ‘Bable’ book is backed up by absolutely no facts and no evidence.
It is not proof for any god(s) ....(or of any jesus...)
It is a historical novel.....
Only!
The Bible is proof of a book ONLY (certainly not evidence of any gods...)
what is "archaeological proof"? There are theories and suppositions and interpretations, which develop, are refined and / or are discarded as their likelihood is continually reassessed. Proof, in the sense of a final thing, doesn't come into it. That wouldn't be science.
@@MaryamsMehboobThere's so much wrong in your summation of the history of the Bible & the men who wrote it. There's far more documents available for provenance of the Bible than there is for ancient writers such as Homer et al. The men who wrote the gospels were a tax collector, an interpreter (Hebrew to Greek), a doctor and a teacher not exactly the groupies you describe. I'm sure that Jesus and Joseph still professed in carpentry and not just masonry even though the Greek term meant artisan or construction worker. Though homes and other buildings were made of stone and Jesus and Joseph may have worked in masonry, but carpentry was still essential in roof beams, shingles, doors, window shutters, shelving and furnishings and maybe even flooring in well to do homes.

The money changers and others were using the temple "for profit", instead of spirituality of God.
The priests were allowing it as easiest way to get their animal sacrifices. Why bother evaluating such a primitive system?
Correct: Matthew 21:12-13 Then Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those selling doves. 13And He declared to them, “It is written: ‘My house will be called a house of prayer.’ But you are making it ‘a den of robbers.’”
Isn't it amazing that all those people in there ran and not ONE tried to stop Him.

He had a problem or two with the Pharisees
THANKS FOR SHARING WITH US NOT EVERYONE READ THEY BIBLE.THANKS FOR THE WORK IN HELPING TO SEE..
First time hearing about a second burial. Thanks for the information. Very interesting. ✌🏽
I have the confirmation the little you eat the better you feels. I knew that but I need it to heard it from somebody else. God bless.
Don't forget. Jesus was called rabbi when he was older. So he had to fulfill the requirements for that title. So from his youth he studied.

Great documentary. Notable point is Jesus was not necessarily anti-business in the temple. Forcing people to change to temple money and only use temple animals was a corrupt way for the top leaders to get money from people trying to worship God. That was infuriating for sure. He called them a den of robbers, and they were.
Very anti Temple business
There is no position w/money in the instructions for Temple activities
The Greek word in the earlier Bibles for "daily bread" in the Lord's Prayer actually translates to "supersubstantial bread," something quite different than simply bread. The Greek versions of the Bible predate the English translations and so more likely are closer to the original meanings.
Supersubstantial more likely means the Body and Blood of Christ in the Eucharist. Jesus was showing us how to correctly pray day to day even before his passion, death, resurrection and ascension.
Orémus Y'all.
I hope you're not suggesting that ordinary, real people don't need ordinary, real bread and that this was of importance to the person we call Jesus.
Thats stretching it but I'd like to see the definition of that word bread in that verse if you've got the greek concordance

Wow Love this documentary. Thank you for sharing.
Three things should be noted - 1) Judeans probably looked a lot like Yasidis, Druze today (Abraham was from “Ur of the Chaldeans”) & Arabs; 2) The climate in Judea was a lot more like Central Coastal California than the desert it is now - We see that from archeological digs at Masada; & 3) Jesus was at least 5’-11” (1.81 meters) tall according to the image on the Shroud of Turin.
Hm? Yasidis are native to Western Asia - Turkey.
Sum "ur" ia - means land of the black headed.
Men of Jesus day were likely short. The descriptions of him suggest about 3 to 3 1/2 cubits - 4.5 to 5.5 feet. We are all still learning so who knows.
@@jasona3884 - I was saying what Jews looked like at the time, Ur of the Chaldeans was a definite geographical location in Mesopotamia (Modern day Iraq), and that is where the Druze & Yasidis have been for 1000’s of years. Black headed probably meant Black or dark hair, which would be common in the Middle East. We have only 2 indicators for the height of Jesus - 1) The fact the Roman Soldiers (who were 5’-7” & above according to historical records) felt the need to “cut him down to size”. You don’t need to do that to people who are 12 - 18” shorter than you are. ATST, most of the remains of Judeans from that time are from people who are at least 5’ tall. 2) The Shroud of Turin clearly shows a muscular man (Jesus was a carpenter & worked on construction sites with his father) of 5’-11” tall who had been nearly beaten to death by a squad of Roman Soldiers as described in the Gospels. There are no contemporary (or near contemporary) physical descriptions of Jesus, so we pretty much have to accept the Shroud.
FYI, the Royal Cubit was 22” long, so even 3 cubits would have been 5’-5”, and 3.5 would have been 6’-3”…
Now, there is a description in the non-canonical apocrypha which states the Jesus was a head taller than the soldiers who scourged & crucified him, and head & shoulders taller than the Judeans. Both of those are more consistent with the man in the Shroud than with your description.
Carbon dating ruled out the shroud as being from jesus
Dear Odyssey, am grateful for the information I learned from your documentary but more entertained due to some sidelines in it 😁. More power to you. GOD bless....
When Jesus come you did not need magic or things to put in your homes . You turn to Jesus .
English please? 😂
I enjoyed Chris' humor & I learned so much about how they made a living, healings,etc....the info was put out there....the choice is what you agree or disagree with.
Another "thought provoking video".... Pardon the pun ... Seriously i seem to find your brilliant pieces of work ... Just when needed ...this one is so full of truth ...that it actually hurts ...and just leads to more thoughts and thinking ... And for an overthinker ....its simply superb
0:52- damn, Jesus even ripped the bird from that ladies hand!
The actor ripped the bird away; Yeshua didn’t do that. He was angered that the money changers weren’t being honest…they were cheating those coming to exchange their money, and they were doing business in The House; but His anger would not have made Him sinful.
I just love this it was perfect. Thank you so much
This is a great series. I’ve done a lot of research and I learned quite a bit on the show. And I agree with someone else who commented that the smell is not bad. I’ve been in morocco quite a bit and in all the Medina‘s there are donkeys walking around inside as well as other animals and fresh meat it’s been carved and the food it’s being cooked, It smells quite good actually
Oh lol, I am sure it's much better than the cattle ranches and pig farms all over the USA. Haha, Americans acting like everything needs to be so clean when they travel, but we are humans here too, lol the meat ya eat makes 💩 while it's alive and that gets stinky, right here in the US of A! Lol not snarking at Katrina, just noting that other Americans get very judgy about smells that are universal. And Maryam cut it out, you are not converting anyone, this does not count as good works. Allah is just getting annoyed with you. He wants you to be healthy and happy, not obsessed with youtube comments. Please talk to someone you trust, Allah has a bigger plan for you than this. PS also Jesus was real, Joseph's writes of hum and was not a believer in any of the messiah stuff, it is a reasonably objective source. Jesus is likely reflecting Eastern religious ideas because he and John studied with the Escene sect and were exploring ideas coming from India and further east. I don't believe in magic Jesus, I am not trying to say he's the messiah, but he was a famous teacher & was the leader of a small movement arguing against the legalistic approach taken by religious leaders of his community.

This life is a test for the Hereafter. The Glorious Qur’an says:
“He who created Death and Life that He may try which of you is best in deed; and He is the Exalted in Might, Oft-Forgiving.” [Al-Qur’an 67:2]
11. Final justice is on the Day of Judgement
The Glorious Qur’an says:
“Every soul shall have a taste of death: and only on the Day of Judgement shall you be paid your full recompense. Only he who is saved far from the Fire and admitted to the Garden will have attained the object (of life): For the life of this world is but goods and chattels of deception.”
[Al-Qur’an 3:185]
Final justice will be done on the Day of Judgement. After a person dies, he will be resurrected on the Day of Judgement. It is possible that a person receives part of his punishment in this world

Amazing. Very helpful as a future pastor

It's amazing how their lives are still so much the same as it was back then!!
Abel provided the blood sacrifice, and Cain did not, and was jealous. Both Abel, and Cain would have been taught about the blood sacrifice, but only Abel followed the example of Adam.
Only able COULD follow the example of Adam. Since Cain was a farmer, and therefore seen as a lower caste who didn’t have animals for blood sacrifice. Way to skip over that point DEBBIE…
Perhaps is was the attitude of heart. But Scripture doesn't really say why God rejected Cain's offering. So your guess (a good one) is as good as any. Maranatha.

Jesus also talked a lot about vineyards and shepherding. Just because He talked a lot about stones does not mean He was a stonemason. It means He was talking to people who worked with stones.
there wasn't that much variety available in the world of building materials back then, so take your pick: a) stone, b) wood, c) both.
