Along with 'Dagenite' - Another British brand name, lost to the annals of history! . . . Good to see that the replacement batteries were by 'AlCad'. They are as good as you can get, and found in use at any self respecting, and all important Government establishments.
Pretty sure the plant materials was for testing to see how growth, and plant health would be effected by irradiated soils, after a presumed nuclear attack.
Great content as always Ian! You mentioned at one point about bringing a gas meter, is that not standard kit for an IKS explore? Wouldn’t dream of telling you what to do but I’d highly recommend taking one into any confined space, could be a life saver mate, you never know! Like I say though great explore 👍
There was one hell of a lot to digest in there, and some good stuff going to waste. It's a pity you didn't get into that 'Plant Room' it would have been interesting to see what was left in there. Brilliant generator, but what a waste to just leave it there, or so we may think, but it was most likely installed as the bunker was being built (lowered into place before the roof went on top). Short of disassembling it and carrying it out, piece by piece, it's there to stay. It's another old technology model with external excitation, but almost bullet proof and would last another hundred years and more, if it were properly looked after. It's market value today would be negligible, despite its robust construction. Would love to know what the engine was, but it looks like some oik has liberated the maker's nameplate - I guess we'll never know. I wonder what ever became of Lancashire Dyno, mergered with (gobbled up by) a bigger and more powerful company I shouldn't wonder, rather like another Mancunian electric plant manufacturer I know of, Ferguson & Pailin, yet another name gone to the annals of history despite their Government and defence contracts. The worst things for those books and documents are finger prints (complete with bacteria), moisture from people breathing on them, and the fettered air in a cold and unventilated environment. "Fridge room"??? - Those were "environmentally controlled laboratories". Some were obviously for the study of plant life, others were for the study of insect life (entomology, as it said on the signs!) as evidenced by the insect enclosures. That's been a fascinating place for anyone with a mind for science. - Clearly "repurposing" is not a modern concept!
Shame to see all that history just rotting away in there. I'm also a little surprised you guys don't wear masks in places like that where mould is growing on everything.
27:37 I will take any can of spray paint I find and chuck it down an endless pit somewhere. Little shits getting their hands on that... not on my watch. Lol
So sad to see this Archive with all the books and History is molden away. The previous owner should pay the restauration of this books. It is really sad that the ignorance of this treasures is also common in britain as it does in Germany in most times ofhistory.
I watched a TV Show, Mysteries of the Abandoned, about an American Air Base in the UK that had Atomic Warhead Cruise Missiles. Women from all over the UK (30,000), peacefully protested the presence of the missiles in the 80's. The base is closed now. It is called, RAF Greenham Common. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAF_Greenham_Common
This place is absolutely fantastic so much to see. Hope you lads are all well
I have never seen so much cool stuff get left behind before!

Secret Vault popped in here a while ago. Great explore lads.
love you guys, another great exploration of a fab place xoxo thank you all for keeping us educated and entertained xoxo
Again thank you another great vid, and a thank you to the key holder for letting you have a looks around.
Some evidence of a few different uses post-bunker. Lots of plant science, library storage and some photographic/printing/repro stuff.
A TRUE golden gem. nice find. Hide at all cost.👍 love the dynamo.
20:55 Oldham...ancient British battery company....

Cool video friend thanks again
Comforting to know that a fallout shelter gave way to book storage, and yet are there modern bunkers ready for use....

I wonder how many of the manufacturers of any of the equipment are still up and running today? any ideas? x
Awesome explore Ian and Chris wow history lesson here

Surprised the docs and files are still there! Who designed these buildings? They are a maze. Must have been a standardised or modular plan?

Amazing video guys ! I'd like to be there and see everything on my own eyes :)

Do the University maintain or inspect the bunker?
Great explore folks:-)
Be a real shame if this is left to deteriorate, Appreciate it costs money but surely an important building worth saving, what a place, Great vid 👌
