  • Hello and welcome to Camping on the wild side.
    This video is of the building of my new MSR Elixir 1 man tent. Here I am building it fresh out the packet and testing it before I get away on a 3 day wild camp here in Scotland.
    Take advantage of this video if you are looking to purchase this tent and see if it's the one for you. All tents take time to build when you don't know them and this one was no different, finding the correct way and what pole goes where are all part of the build and it can be pretty exciting.
    This video is done with my own tent, no sponsors were part of this and I am not promoting any business.
    The footage I took was done using my Sony Cybershot Camera and also my Samsung Galaxy A5 phone.
    Below are some links that may be useful, I didn't put a direct shop to buy this tent as I felt it unfair to do that. There are many shops that sell this tent and Google will help you pick a store near you.
    Tent weight altogether i weighed 4lb

    I just received one of these after selling my long serving Hubba Hubba. Well covered angles with close ups, good video. There is, I believe a way of setting this up flysheet first using the supplied footprint. I will soon try it.

      Its my go to tent, i think its fantastic it has enough room and the vestibule area is a perfect size. Someone did comment on how to put the fly up first so i tried it and its way to much hastle and awkward so i cant see myself perusing that method unless i actually see someone building it that way. If MSR actually make it so the fly goes up first then that would be a perfect tent for myself as i love it. Thanks for the positive feedback and glad it helped.
      Cheers

    Good review on a cracking tent ⛺ the Elixir is my main go to tent, I recently camped 🏕 in the Cairngorms in strong winds 35 to 50mph winds 💨 and rain ⛈ no problems at all 👌 as has been mentioned in the comments already, it can be pitched outer fly first if its raining, not tried this myself yet but a handy option. As for the missing peg that's on MSR you need 11 but they only provide 10, one of life's great mysteries 🙄 liked and subscribed 😀 atb Brian 👍

      Thanks for the comment Brian well appreciated. I haven't had the strong winds so far but good to know you have tried and tested it. I still have to try and put the outer shell up first but glad that can be done especially as we are in Scotland. I managed to get extra peg from ebay which are slightly different but still MSR giving me some as spares too. Love to get myself to the Cairngorms for a few days in the wild it looks great so that's a plan. Cheers again Brian

    Thanks for sharing the video, friend. I've got an an Elixir myself as well. Also, small item here, but I like your video intro text font (clean and simple).

    Just for info, I am 192cm (6'3.5") and I can lay comfortably in it as well. So it's kinder to taller people than this video may suggest.

    No, you haven't missed a peg, it needs 11 and there is only 10 supplied. Common complaint with these.

    Packaged weight according to the MSR website is 2.16 kg. I put mine on the kitchen scale after I purchased it and measured 2.133 kg. What you describe MSR calls "Mininum Weight (Metric) 1.78 kg" Thank you for video though. I love my Elixir 1.

    • @Campingonthewildsidescotland
      @Campingonthewildsidescotland  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers Steffen, its weird how they weigh tents and pretty sure they don't include the pegs and poles (thats speculation). Tents are so well tightly packed off the shelf, we need to open them up and then re pack them then weigh them to get a more realistic weight. Yeah my weight was as you buy it. Glad you like your MSR, i think its a great little tent and ideal for some of the camps i do. All the best Steve👍

    Great tent, the footprint allows you to put the frame up and the outer without the inner, or if its raining you can still obviously put the outer first before attaching the inner so it doesn't get wet.

      @@TheOC1968 thanks for mentioning that, i feel that this is something I need to try. I didn't realise you could build the outside first on this tent but I will put it on my to do list 👍

    There is a lot of users claiming that the elixir starts leaking after a relative short time of useage. Have you experienced any durability/quality issues, or has it been bulletproof so far?

    • @Campingonthewildsidescotland
      @Campingonthewildsidescotland  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Simon thanks for getting in touch. I personally haven't had any issues with the Elixir i have done a good few camps with it and find it one of the best tents i have. Its probably like everything else that they have a bad batch or not sealed properly but doesn't sound like something MSR would do that. Also like to hope MSR would replace them if people did have an issue. But mine is definitely bulletproof. 👍 Steve

      @@Campingonthewildsidescotland very glad to hear that because after I wrote my comment, I actually ordered the Elixir 2 V2☺️There is just so many positive reviews about this tent, that it cannot possibly be that bad…

    • @Campingonthewildsidescotland

      @@theclaverman awesome tent and will have a plenty room for you. Always worth popping it up in the garden or a local country park to see how it all goes together, makes building up when you need it that little bit easier. My Elixir 1 came with 1 peg short so i think thats an MSR thing but ordered an extra pack of 5 or so pegs to cover me for that just in case moment. Worth checking your pegs, I would say all tents will have issues for at least one person so get it up and iron out any problems well in advance before you go on your adventure. Hope you get on well with then tent it does look really good and have seen a few videos on them. Steve 👍

      I have never had to build up this tent from the outside first but its defiantly something need to try. You are right i haven't read or seen anything to convince me to do it that way. Always worth investigating this though. Thanks for the comment its spurred me on to look into that. 👍

      Fair point Eric, it's great the tent industry cater for a wide range of peoples need and like. Camo colour will make you less noticable so they have purpose. They do make the MSR tents in Olive. 👍
