I think it is the tune sometimes used with "The Joviall Broome Man." The Baltimore Consort rocks the heck out of the tune (also with the text of "The Joviall Broome Man"), and they identify the tune as "Slow Men of London."
This style of dancing was invented in 1829 when a man about to be hanged for horse thievery was observed, with a noose around his neck and hands tied behind his back, stomping on an ant nest situated underneath the tree limb from which he was to be hanged from. While waiting for his execution the ants attacked and he began a stomping, scraping the ground and skipping from foot to foot. Now the bunch of folks fixing to hang this man happened to be musicians and began to play a well known song from the time because it fit perfectly with the rhythm of the stomping, scraping, shuffling and skipping. Anyway, after they hanged him they all took turns on the ant nest trying to master those stomps, scrapes and skips. The horse thief of course was an indian fella from the flatfoot tribe and, well, flatfoot dancing was born.
that's horse crap. It's been around longer than that. It's a mix of Irish, old Celtics, and Appalachian Immigrants . Anglo-Saxon Mountain music. This was done when the colonies were barely here, before that with the Celts and Different styles in Northwest Europe.
Interesting to compare with David Hoffman's video from 50 years ago, "Best Bluegrass Clog Dancing Video Ever Made." Here is where the two gentlemen are dancing: th-cam.com/video/cs2j8f7H2WY/w-d-xo.htmlm43s.
Seems like in that old clip they are just doing similar moves but don't really seem to be dancing WITH the music. These guys here also seem to be flailing their arms about quite a bit and have more moves.
A whole bag of potatoes was awarded to his family . But a mule ate it, he later received a fine Cole of cabbage.. Anyone the McGuire family killed the o'shaughnessy family.. Over the best sausage!
I just love this smooth understated style of clogging. It blends with the music like another instrument, which it is.

There should be more emphasis on the sound of the dancing. It sounds awesome.

and what a great fiddle duet! Is that tune called Brilliancy?
+Edward Green The tune is called 'Buffalo Girls' (as opposed to the song, 'Buffalo Gals'). John Hatcher is the source, I believe.
That's some fine footin'
Oops. Apparently the earlier name of the tune is "Jamaica" from Playford's "Dancing Master." Nice mandolin rendering on TH-cam by mj10008.
Delightful

Love you guys, sooo cool! What kind of shoes do you wear for flatfooting/clogging, and where do you get them? I'd like to learn how! :)
Wish I knew the name of this song....
I’d love to see the guy in the brown shirt doing some buck dancing. When they are flatfooting like this it’s hard for me to see the difference.
How many years to get that good?
That's proper flatfooting, needs some gravel and dust..
+321minder and some spoons a playin

Very funny. Fake news just has to be believable, but this isn’t. Good try.
Are you 'avin a laugh? Is he 'avin a laugh?
*Good story. Thanks for sharing*.

What's the name of the tune?
buffalo gals, Hatcher is the source.
You can wear tap shoes :)
Flatfooting is from the British Isles originally, the settlers from there brought it with them.
here's a piece with one of your top politicians in attendance enjoy th-cam.com/video/lWkvbB0W2as/w-d-xo.html regards john
They should have given the dancers a platform-half of their steps cannot be viewed by the audience there and on the monitor at home.
I think this is called tap dancing...like fred astaire???
Nope!
Flat footing is older than tap.

Clogging can't compare to this; either born with it or you ain't
Could have done without that................but I'll not snuff your 1st amendment right even it if was classless.
