Austral Kings Camp Essence- Fly Fishing in Chile-

  • Our story,
In February 2015 we made an exploratory trip to a number of rivers along the Chilean coast chasing rumors of massive King Salmon colonizing the area. Not finding much initial success, we landed on the last river of the expedition and instantly knew that this could be “the one”. Blown away by the jaw-dropping scenery and unable to catch a single King under 25 lbs, we had finally found our fishing Shangri-La.
Nestled in an impressive yet tranquil river valley that rivals Yosemite in grandeur, Austral Kings is a place that self-respecting King Salmon fishermen cannot ignore.
We want to share with you this video that in our opinion shows some great moments achieved after three successful seasons running Austral Kings Camp program.
    Enjoy!
Thanks to all AK staff, Mati Radaelli, Alex and Nico Trochine.

I'm very fortunate to have access to decent Chinook, Coho and steelhead fisheries in northern Michigan. It's nothing like this. I would love to visit Chile. It looks absolutely pristine there.

I live in British Columbia, Canada, your rivers and your Chinook salmon fishing blows ours away. That's totally insane.

Hi Allan, too bad rivers in the US and Canada where King Salmon is native are gone, human impact is far beyond of what we could imgine a few years ago. Now is real, you got to go very far to find proper fishing nowadays. This is one of those places!

@@farawayflyfishing3255 There are still some places on the Central Coast that are pretty pristine. A place called 'Rivers Inlet' in BC, Canada(you can google that) has the largest Chinook salmon on the planet....fish that can weigh more than 40 kg. It's amazing how after maybe 15 generations the Chinook Salmon have managed to colonize the rivers of southern Chile and Argentina. I can't believe how big and robust the fish are there. I often point to Chile as a prime example of what can happen when the salmon have all they need(good spawning habitat and lots of Anchovy and Sardines). I'd love to travel down there and experience it for myself. In the meantime, enjoy them my friend they are a wonderful gift. Cheers from Vancouver Island.

@@farawayflyfishing3255 what about the Skeena north of you? That is world class fishing!

@@lucasholmgrenmusic Yes it is. The further north you go the better it gets. The Skeena is really big water, it has lots of tributaries that have great fishing. They are steep mountain drainages like you have in Chile. The Chinook enter the river during high water in the summer(during the melt) and spawn in the fall when the water gets lower. :)

I wonder if they can arrange an artificial mount of a trophy fish? So you can take it home.

Hi! We don't provide that service but I'm sure there are some artist that could do it.

You just need some good photos and maybe some length/girth measurements and you could find someone who can make you a stunning fiberglass replica. There are a bunch of artists in BC, Canada that do a really good job of that.
