    Found this when looking for F360 tutorials for my new, as yet unused CNC. Great that I found this, even better that it is a tutorial for something that I actually want to do!
    Great clear commentary, definitely an upload I will be referring to often. Subscribed, I hope I learn as much from your other projects too. Thank you!

      Glad it helped! Fusion360 can be tricky at times. I’m hoping to do more tutorials that are geared to what woodworkers are trying to achieve with their projects. Cheers!

      @@EricksonWoodworking if you are looking for ideas, I am currently trying to learn about the different image and vector files that can be used in fusion, what to do with them, and how difficult it is to make our own 3D surfaces. That is how I found your channel.

    GREAT job with this flag and the video. I really appreciate your efforts. You are way over my head, but what you do is encouraging to me. Best luck with your insurance company.

    Great instructional video! I always wondered what the pencil toolpath was used for. To save you a few clicks next time, when you imported the svg, that can be done straight to a sketch. You can create an offset plane from the bottom of the flag and import the svg to that plane instead of having to create a 90° sketch, drawing a box, creating a body then importing svg. Thanks for teaching me something new!

      Thanks! When I was recording the voice over, that exact procedure was going through my mind when watching myself go a different way. Thats why I mentioned it lol. I try to spend the least amount of time on CAD software as humanly possible so I can get into the garage, and that usually causes things to go sideways. Thanks for watching!

    Agree with you, Fusion defiantly has some awkward moments in the design process. I'm very new to the whole cnc process but IMO compared to the other software Fusion has a much better feel to me. I have Carveco Plus and followed your vid tutorial with fair results. but thinking I'm going to make the switch soon. Just the ability to filter bits in Fusion is hug bonus to me. The level of detail in your projects inspire me to be more creative. Thanks for the awesome tutorials.

    instead of doing that sketch from the side, then extruding a rectangle to get a face to make another sketch, create an offset plane. Then sketch on that. much faster and less cruft in the model.
    I've been wanting to do a flag like this, now I don't have to figure out how!

    Thank you again for your great video. I was so impressed with your flag plaque that I duplicated it using my shop, CNC Mill, and CNC Laser. ‘MI super pleased with the results and thank you for the inspiration. I used Vectric Aspire on the CNC Mill and mapped the stars to the flag contour. Thank you so much for the inspiration. I also used a 3/4 inch flush cut bit on my router table to rabbit out the walnut for the frame. I’ll see if I can find your email and send you a picture.

    Carbide 3D is a wonderful machine. However, the only customer support you can get is via email. You don’t get to talk to a real person they won’t answer the phones.

    Did you have to set up Fusion to work with your Shapeoko? Im having issues and the videos online are kinda outdated. Any help would be grateful Love your work man!

    Great Video.....How did you get the wood dyed all the way through? I can not seem to find any videos on how to do this.

    • @EricksonWoodworking
      @EricksonWoodworking  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Eric, with this, I used natural hardwoods that grow with that color. For the red, I used Redheart, which is naturally red all the way through. Same with the Purpleheart, which is naturally purple. Eventually they will fade and turn brownish over time, unless treated a certain way. There is however, a premium in terms of price you will pay over other woods, but to cut into it, staining will never penetrate far enough to get the effect you are looking for.
      Cheers!

    • @EricksonWoodworking
      @EricksonWoodworking  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is another way if you cannot get that wood species, is to not glue the individual pieces before you cut the profile. Leaving it unglued, cutting the profile, then dying the wood to the color you want, then gluing the pieces together would work great! Just make sure you sand carefully not to take the stain off.
      Cheers!

    Would this work similarly if you wanted to make the stars raised up above the surface of the union instead of carved into the union? I'm wondering how to go about carving an inlay of stars glued into the pockets of the stars (pockets cut with flat bottoms as you initially have them). The inlays would then have a height slightly above the surface of the union. l then want to carve this excess height as you did but instead of them being sunken into the surface I want the stars raised above the surface.. a walkthrough on how you'd go about that would be amazing.

    • @EricksonWoodworking
      @EricksonWoodworking  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nicholas, I'll look into that for sure. I really like the look of the raised stars and should be easily computable to CNC. I'll experiment with this one and post the results!

    What did you charge for this type of work and flag?

    • @EricksonWoodworking
      @EricksonWoodworking  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I currently have it on my website for $300. That is for the entire plaque though and just not the flag. Pricing is always the hardest part.
