for everything here aside from the game hosting service, buy a rasberry pi 4b.. if you truly use this as a 24/7 server the power efficiency and therefore savings by using the pi instead would easily cover the minor extra amount you'd initially pay
It's a cool project that i've done with a similar pc (pentium j2900) but you should add a gigabit Ethernet card otherwise your transfer speed is gonna be bottlenecked . This pc has basically no extention port other than a mini-pcie port so it will be complicated . Otherwise nice video

I don't think there's any reason this would break from running 24/7 any more than most other computers as long as it's getting adequate airflow and such. And a raspberry pi is awesome for a lot of things like this! I actually have one running 24/7, and a few pi zeroes for other projects. I think this video was more about being able to take something I already had and put it to use. Might do some Pi stuff later on. Appreciate the comment!
HP elitedesk 800 g2. They have tons of them on eBay for about $50. It’s way more powerful than the pi4 I was running before. It hosts my files, plex and it sits under my tv making no noise lol
I freaking love Plex, I am thinking of taking the RTX2080 out of my old desktop and turning it into a home Plex server instead of using my friend's. Or keeping the GPU in if I ever decide to host a game server, the large rendering and storage power could really help with that.
Problem with using old machines is that depending on the age they're hugely power in-efficient compared to a modern cpu. youre better off getting a new system. Trade power bill for better hardware.

Well to be fair, this machine doesn't use a ton of power (~20w). Yes a RPi uses substantially less than that, but they honestly aren't as affordable as people like to make them out to be at times.
