@@DavesAutoCenterCenterville I'm a service manager over seeing a 16 bay repair facility specializing in over the road hazmat chemical tankers in the Chicago land. You lead by example, visualize and pull out the best in people. I see it in all of your videos, you are hands down the best channel on the internet. God bless your team and I look forward to all of the videos to come.
Wow! 96 vehicles in for repairs. That is amazing. You come in and greet all your employees. The mutual respect can be seen. It is no wonder why you have sooooo much work! They way you treat your employees and customers is second to none. If only all owners were like you!
Dave is great. I wish he wouldn’t shit on dealer ship techs but that’s the industry for ya. We aren’t a machine shop, but I promise you we send many heads out to be machined. As the tech we don’t have a lot of pull all we can do is say what’s wrong and what’s needed. I’ve seen Dave time and time again shit on us dealer techs, and I dont disagree, we hire people who are unqualified to work at target expecting them to fix 100k vehicles. Let’s start covering the real issues in the industry, instead of highlighting your own success. Again I love Dave I love the shop and I’d quit yesterday to go work there. However this shop is rare.
Got out of the auto repair industry 15 years ago. I was an ASE Master Certified Auto Technician and watching your show reminds me of one of the things really miss about it. It’s the other guys in the shop over the years that I worked with. Mechanics are a special breed. Different ages and races but there is something unique about the type of guys that are in that line of work.
I really like how you respect the crew that works for you! I’m a retired aerospace engineer and this video reminded me how much I liked working with my flight test crew. Respected each one of my test crew!
yes concur, I've worked in many auto shops, most of them as civil servant as tech for fleet vehicles for a large west coast city. Maybe the best thing about the mechanics there is the vetting process does exclude most of the real incompetents and malicious idiots, you seem to run into all the time in auto shops especially as a customer. But Dave's shop is on another level, the collective knowledge in this shop always has a solution for every problem and knows how to fix it right.
man, id dream to work in a shop with snacks... ha-ha, but seriously I'd love to work under your wing and knowledge of cars its absolutely amazing how you can tell what's wrong just based off the condition of a part. nice to hear you have an apprenticeship at your shop!
i cant believe that near miss from the swordfish.. So relieved that your ok. Nice to see that you had a good time and enjoyed yourself. You really do a great job, always so informative and never afraid to put your own sense into every situation your shop is going through. Would wish you guys luck... But you dont need it. Your one sharp fella and have a great staff
Seeing that intake clogged up really makes you wonder how much better for the environment modern emissions control is if at the end of the day: A.) more energy (and chemicals) are used to clean out stuff that used to just go out the tailpipe. B.) the greater consumption of engines due to the lack of maintenance causing catastrophic failures.
Dave I’m a mb tech that only works on those sprinters. Those 3.0s are easy for me. Glow plug breaking is common. Mercedes makes a whole kit that’s pretty fool proof for extracting them. As far as the exhaust leak. ALOT of people mess that clamp up on the elbow coming off the turbo. A lot of people bend the bracket on the transmission and leave the top bolt out of the dpf that connects the dpf to another bracket on the back of the head by the egr cooler. This essentially always creates an exhaust leak at the clamp or even sometimes puts stress on that elbow and breaks studs or the metal gasket in the turbo. 9/10 when we’re doing repeat repairs on these it’s because it’s already been apart.
Dave, You've quickly become one of my favorite automotive YT channels. I've been a Dealer tech with CDJR for many years now. If you guys ever get a chance to rebuild one of these 3.0s I, and many others would love to see it. Thanks for the videos and all you do.
Bead rolling every end of those tubes where they join a rubber coupler and hose clamp is a must. And I’m sure you know with the Firebird getting the fuel injection…..grounds, grounds, grounds….cant stress the importance of good, solid, clean grounds. Done many of these carb to FI swaps and trouble shooting for other people, and 99% of the time it’s a ground issue or RF noise.
Dave I'm so glad I'm retired. I work on the off road and over the road Detroit Diesel and Allison transmissions at a full service diesel shop. I retired about 3 years after they started regulating emissions so bad. They caused the industry to build all this complicated EGR systems that just caused more problems. And on the automotive side like y'all do it's like holy crap! What a nightmare
Cubera is the greatest bottom fish to catch and keep. I like to catch them from kayak. A real battle of man and fish. Sure there are more rare species but they must be protected and released.

I just want to say auto body technicians don't get enough love. You know they also make a little bit less money depending on the job and compared to a mechanic of equal skill... Also, they play around with more chemicals Tend to get sick more often... RiP to my late body man Farther love you pops thanks for watching over me and the boys..
Dave congratulations on the marlin, I lived in Florida for 15 years had to go to many people for me. I have a mechanical engineering background I am retired now but I really enjoy your channel. Your customers should appreciate your shops dedication to their craft.. you got to know when to move, billfish they will kill you if they can. I know that you have to make a profit to pay the bills, but I changed it for around a hundred dollars. It's time for these shops to get real.
