I am a respiratory therapist with 34 years of direct patient care experience with ventilators. Lung protective ventilation (6ccs/kg body weight) has been a colossal, tragic medical mistake. 1) Outcomes for patients have not improved in the past 20 years standing at about 30%-40% 1 year mortality for patients on a ventilator for longer than 48 hours. 2) 6ccs/kg. body weight (the recommended lung protective tidal volume) has never been shown to be better than 8ccs/kg. My experience is that 8ccs/kg is much better than 6ccs/kg. and I would be happy to prove it if challenged. 3) The Covid-19 epidemic has revealed that the emperor has no clothes. Ventilator outcomes for Covid patients has been reported as much higher than 30%-40% mortality which is not surprising to me. Flawed theories do not produce better results under stress. Flawed theories get exposed under stress.
