I've been going to the TTs about 9 times since 1990 and I have wanted to live there since 2008 when I took my Dad there for the Manx. I was there in 2019 for the Classics and have been getting to know people and I do want to keep my promise to myself and move. One of these days!!

Interesting clip! So happens my grandfather's family all left the island by the early 1900's. They settled in Rhode Island and later spread to Ohio and New Jersey. Not sure what prompted them to all eventually leave. Maybe it was the tourist crowds? Also, many of them found mates in north Wales and brought them back to the island. It might be that some of these recent ancestors of mine realized that the population of the island may have actually been suffering from a degree of inbreeding, too many cousins, etc.. If this was the reason, kudos to their mindfulness to look for outside blood to bring in. To my knowledge, only one of our American branch has visited Man in many decades. I may like to visit at some point myself and see the old neighborhoods where a large portion of my genes were cultivated.

Sorry to disapoint you but "The oldest recorded parliament still in existence is the Althing, the ruling legislative body of Iceland. It was founded in 930 and originally consisted of 39 local chieftains. Abolished in 1800, it was restored by Denmark in 1843."

    • @amadeusiom
