- During his time at Culture Vannin, Charles Guard did a lot of helicopter filming of the Isle of Man over the years. This short tour around the coast brings together some highlights.

Lived here in Castletown for the first 20yrs of my life 72yrs old now, so lovely to see the island is still as beautiful as ever, thanks for the memories my friend...

Wonderful video. The beautiful island where I lived in Castletown in the early to mid 1950s. It is on my bucket list to visit again for the first time since 1958. I weep at the very thought of returning.

@@johnbinnie5697 Sorry to be so long to reply. I have only just revisited this page. My family originates from Epsom in Surrey, but my paternal grandparents lived in North London, my grandmother having been born and raised in Birmingham having the surname Hanks. The name is also known in West Sussex and Portsmouth areas. There is also a place called OckendOn in Essex. Ockendens also emigrated to Canada, in the early part of the 20th century, and to Australia and New Zealand.
I'm from Castletown to we left in 78 79 me mum shipped us to Liverpool I haven't been back sinc but during the lockdown I got a real yerningvtp go back xx

My husband and I went there on our honeymoon back in 1977 and we had o lovely time, We haven't been there since but as we are both still healthy we are planning to return. Its such a beautiful place

Thank you for posting this little gem. Used to visit the island with my parents every easter, hated to ferry crossing but loved the whole, magical place. Always wanted to retire in a wee cottage by the sea with a little car to explore the place again.Bet it hasn't changed since my last visit in 1962. Maybe in my next life.....
Yes, in my bucket list already. Visiting for the very first time where The Bee Gees were born. Maybe too a good place to retire.

Born in Birmingham, UK; third-generation Manx descendant. I now live in Canada but I would willingly leave to live in the land of my grandfather Crellin. I can see why he pined for his homeland after leaving for England. A Celtic jewel in the Irish Sea, with all the scenery and fish a man could want. Love the musical score too; haunting.

Beautiful island fond memories of fantastic holidays in late 60s / 70s.
Used to love rambling these hills and plains of my adopted home, hope I get a new knee and galavant again before the rest of me wears out!

Castletown and Douglas demonstrate the value of having stringent urban containment boundaries. Same with Laxey and all your settlements actually.
Why didn't they show the Anagh Coar estate and Hazel Crescent? Or the Pondy in Ramsey? Perhaps a tour of the Manor pub in Willaston?

The first two minutes are Charles Guard's own composition, but at c.2 minutes it merges into Marlene Hendy's 'The Secret Island'. This is a song from her album 'Fy Yerrey' with Dilys Sowrey (and a beautiful song it is too!)

We're Manx - a nation like the others you've listed, even if with a smaller land!
As to Kieran Tierney, he is Manx-born, but he moved to Scotland at 10 months, which has meant that he's qualified to play for Scotland.

For some reason, 10 people don't like this island.
Groudle Glen will live in my heart as long as it continues to beat. But, my question, and this may be a false memory. Around 1968/9, someone told me about a place on the island that had been painted by a 'famous artist', it was called, if memory serves, The Seven Fields of Green' and I have the faintest of memories that I actually stood where the scene was painted. I've tried to 'google it' but to no avail, can anyone enlighten me?
