    Whenever you put screws into the exterior fiberglass, (as with the solar panel deck gland you installed) you need to use Sikaflex or 4200 to “Bed” the screws. This is a place where moisture or water can penetrate the hull, soak the core, and cause structural damage and water leaks.....you can still go back and bed those screws....

    • @seethelittlethings
      @seethelittlethings  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment :) we use mastic silicone to seal screw holes, let me know if that’s too weak

    • @backthebadge4009
      @backthebadge4009 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      see the little things Silicon is not the best stuff to use on a boat, it leaves an oily film, is hard to clean off or paint over. Use the correct stuff. Sikaflex seals, but remains pliable, and is easily removed when necessary to uninstall or re-install stuff. 4200 is also good in the same way, but is also a moderate adhesive. Only use 5200 if you never want to get it off causing a great deal of damage. 4000 is the same as 4200 but more UV resistant. I hope that helps. There is a sealer also called “boat life” caulk which works good around sinks inside the boat.

    I used to lov to just sit around and think of those little things both above and below deck especially when I was alone at the mooring or even in the cradle. Now I enjoy seeing how my friends do things on their boats and what the "little things" are for them on their boats that serve different purposes. Remember simple is best especially at sea!

      I use a suction cup handle to lift my floor boards in our beneteau 36 CC which has similar floor boards ( guess beneteau saved labour costs by only putting pull up holes in 1/3 of the floor boards) it also works great when I am cleaning the waterline from the dinghy today keep the dinghy close to the hull ( everything on the boat should have two uses ).

    My first boat was really small and since I'm almost seven feet tall, I cut two holes in the berth, through the hull so I could stretch out. I put two popcorn maker tops and glued and screwed them to the hull. It worked pretty good, but had to rename the vessel "bug eyes"

    Great episode guys!! On our boat I used hooks and screw eyes to hold up our freezer doors. I was able to screw them under an overhead compartment. Now the doors never fall down. We had the springs but a couple times I bumped them and get hit in the head. So I went with hooks. Love the cloth tabs in the floor too. Great idea. Fair winds to you both.

    I love watching you guys. It’s like having a normal conversation on issues I share and challenges in common to our sailing community. Being a Beneteau 393 owner and a previous 351 Owner I have felt your experiences. The fridge spring actually was standard on the 351 but not on my 393. Agree the little additions improve every day comfort. Like a toothbrush holder in the head.

    • @seethelittlethings

      I almost felt bad showing the fridge spring as I see it in every other boat and thought why bother showing it.. good to know we’re not the only one ☺️... the toothbrush holder (and all other additional storage) is IKEA Tisken. Very useful onboard. The only suction cups that don’t fail.

    It is always scary watching that spliced line go up and over the mast, knowing that if it gets really stuck or separates, you've got a problem! We've done that with several of our lines now. Great updates! Have you replaced all the interior bulbs with LED also? We found that made a huge difference too. Love the little fabric things on the floor boards! Regarding that aft stern light - I do not understand how Beneteau got away with mounting it that way. I think it is supposed to be visible from the rear AND the side, but the shape of the boat would seem to block it from the side, especially if you hang fenders and such like we all do. Moving that to a rail mounting has always been a plan. We have an earlier version of that Victron - that Bluetooth app is awesome! I wonder if we could simply swap out the head unit and keep all the wiring? Have to look into that one! Another fun video! Edit: Another thing I forgot - those Speedy Stitchers are awesome and so inexpensive. We have two of them, with different weights of thread. One has the waxed line for sail fixes, webbing, and line whipping, the other has a smaller needle with outdoor thread for on the spot fixing of cushions stitches coming unraveled or spray hood/bimini stitching. Super handy!

    • @seethelittlethings
      @seethelittlethings  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      we got LEDs for inside when we bought the boat. They are not the best as we bought bulk from aliexpress, we have to replace them regularly.. reg. stern light: i thought so too, but it's conform to 135° dead astern. It shouldn't show more, as this will confuse overtaking vessels in regards to your ship's heading. Together with the red and green navlights, you're supposed to be a tricolor lighthouse and only show one light from boat any angle. reg. victron: victron sells a bluetooth dongle for older versions of the charge controller so you don't necessarily have to switch the head unit altogether. IMHO it's worth the upgrade to get the app capability. It's the only screen we look at, you get so much more out of it.

    You are complaining about the "Tsunamis" witch are rocking your boat every 20 minutes. If it is so, why don't you turn your bow towards the swell. Or, if you want to change the side when sun is burning or wind is blowing on anchorage. Just put a long rope from your anchorchaine right in front of your boat - along the outside - to one of your stern cleats. Than let more anchorchain go out so the weight of your boat loads more and more to this line. Your boat will turn slowly and can be hold in any desired position. To turn the boat back just pull in the anchorchaine. This works perfekt and turns your boat safely in any position. Beste Grüße aus Bayern ; )

    Sieht gut aus. Aber mal ne Frage: Lohnt sich der Windgenerator wirklich? Ich habe mirüberlegt auch son Ding zuzulegen, aber dann wurde mirgesagt, dass sich der Energie output gar nicht lohnt verglichen mit Solar zum Beispiel. Und wenn man jetzt in den Meds ist dann hat man ja eigentlich immer etwas Sonne. Wie ist eure Erfahrung?

    Another awesome video. A lot of useful tips.what are your plans for securing the solar panels permanently. Alex got to do most of the talking this time 😀. I have led navigation lights on my boat,I like them even though they are just portable ones. The fridge door explains everything 😀😀. Love you guys,stay safe. 👩🏼🤷🏼‍♂️👙🦆

      Hey 👋, we have those push and lock buttons that you see in the sailrite videos, but it’s probably a marina job to fix those with flaps on the Bimini.. were thinking about a stainless arch with fixed panels this autumn, but it’s all written in the stars currently.. as long as it’s high season the probability of heavy weather is quite small. Will fix it a bit better and leave it for quite a while I guess ....
      Small bumps on the head increase general awareness 🙃
      Glad you enjoyed the vid !

      The more you stitch the more you stick one into your finger. That’s the way it is. You can wear protective gloves but they’re are not really easy to use while stitching...

    I lived in Berlin from 1991 until 1993. although I was surrounded by English speakers I managed to pick up a bit of the German language. In a way it's a shame you have to do this channel in English, aber ich geniesse es sehr :-)

      Hey Martin, yeah we thought about doing a German or Dutch channel when we started.. But it felt right to go for English as we talk English day to day off-camera as well :) Glad you like it!

    Are you vegans? :)

    • @seethelittlethings
      @seethelittlethings  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope. We eat everything. But veggies are just the easiest to keep fresh for a longer time on a boat. So then you end up with very little meat in your diet ;). I like to experiment with food though and cook everything from vegan dishes to meat or sugar free when I feel like it :). I like variety in my food!
