A local guy I know ran a 19:30 having not run at all, literally zero run training. That said he is super fit from cycling so had the cardio engine, but boy was he hurting the 2 days after.
Well done Charles! That’s an awesome achievement, especially for someone who has only been running for 4 weeks! You must have a natural running ability and good base fitness from cycling. You’ve clearly also put in some hard work over the past 4 weeks and have an effective training plan from your coach too. I’ve been running casually for years and I’ve never got close to a sub-20 minute 5k. My best is 21:09, but I’ve set a goal for myself to achieve a sub-20 this year. I’m quite a bit older than you, but I feel that if you set your mind on something and put the right plan in place to achieve it, you can do it.
@@CharlesOuimet no worries man! I don’t think people realise how hard it is to run a fast 5k, especially towards the end when your lungs are burning and your heart rate is spiking and everything in your body is telling you to stop! It takes a lot of mental strength to keep pushing through to the end. It’s bloody hard! Maybe as a future video idea you could look at investing in a pair of high-end carbon plated race shoes like the ASICS Metaspeed Sky Paris or Nike AlphaFly 3 and seeing if they make a difference to your times. You could maybe look at doing longer distances too like 10k, half marathon or even a full marathon at some point. I’m looking forward to seeing where your running journey takes you!
Well yeah, you obviously have a solid aerobic base from doing cycling and other sports. That helps massively. As a novice who is slowly working on 5k's for a little over a year, sub-20 still feels unreal for me.
Well you take into account that a nordic skiing woman does 10k sub 32mins, it is not unreal. Pretty much anyone can reach this if under 40 and willing to just train, getting near 15mins might be about genes.
@@jepulis6674 right, of course. I mean it feels unreal FOR ME still, at this stage. Not in general. Sure it's possible and I hope one day I'll get there.
Félicitation! ..
