If you want an SNSD song that fits the newer SM/Kpop mold, I Got a Boy was kind of the start of experimental songs. Their Genie outfit definitely stood out because the whole military/harness type fashion didn't trend until late third gen. The members sacrificed a lot for the group's poppy but successful concept so tbh it's easier to see their talents in their subunit/solo works.
I love it cuz I think it's a nice change from the stuff I've been listening to. Super high energy and super simple is hard to pull off but they nailed it! Definitely excited for I Got A Boy now, and I gotta check out the sub units too!

Taeyeon, Jessica, Sunny, Tiffany, Hyoyeon and Yuri were 18, Sooyoung and Yoona 17 and Seohyun was only 16. That's why their earlier concepts were cuter and innocent. They waited until the girls were not minors anymore to start the more mature concepts.
That makes sense. It's kind of hard to know they're older now and then go back and still kind of expect the same vibes of songs. But the early songs are still great!
