It sounds familiar because IT'S LITERALL BEEN PLAYED EVERYWHERE. From variety shows, random dances, to year-end award shows. I think most of the idols, especially from 3rd gen, has danced to this lol.

No but listen. This song is legendary, why? because first of all, it is still a record holder for the highest music show rating in S.K like ever. They performed it on a helipad and the rating peaked at 17.2% as in 8.6 million people were watching it LIVE. And remember not all South Korean public watch music shows.
Another is that part where Tiffany goes "DJ, Put it back on" everytime they go for a concert or any performance in another country, she would change it into, "New York, put it back on" or "Tokyo, put it back on." So that part is a very well known adlibs in the community.

I think you should listen to some of SNSD’s b-sides, especially the Japanese ones. It’s very different sound from the “the old kpop”. I think for Kpop groups in general, you should listen to their album because you can’t judge a group just from title tracks because obviously they are made to be on the more safe side and to be catchy for the public. Also I think it would fit your taste better.

Fun fact: in drama Dream High where there is IU, kim soo hyun (its okay to not be okay), Suzy, and taecyeon as the casts they cover this song on that drama (dream high) for the guy who always failed the test for college or something its heartwarming and that is the kdrama that lead me to love IU and kim soo hyun. But its old kdrama maybe its not really comfortable for watch it now. But i hope you can check the clip when they sing it. And all of the clips when they singing is just so wonderful. Its like a drama musical but actually there is a lot of singing and dancing bcs the story is abt art school students.
