This definitely deserves a spot on the YT homepage. I'm watching it again tomorrow, sharing it on FaceBook, and showing the rest of my family. Absolutely astounding. Andrew Pine, everyone on the team, Sega, kudos to all of you, and thanks to Shenmue Dojo for featuring this. This video goes far and beyond transcending a simple visual... Now, when I see that plane fly over Aberdeen, I'll be thinking of Andrew Pine, and the hopeful promise of more from this Saga with the fans support. Thank you.
This Shenmue 2 documentary was brilliant. What a surprise it was to see this video up so soon. Thoroughly entertaining from start to finish. Thank you for taking us on this great journey!
This was fantastic. Every Shenmue fan needs to see this. Well paced, andgreat cinematography. I'm actually replaying the second one now- I hope one day people will be able to visit and talk about the locales of Shenmue 3!
Great job man. I have always said that the Shenmue series is not really a game, but rather an experience. My life has been affected since I picked up the game in the late 90's. I'm not overstating that. I think a lot of the lessons taught in the game, transfer well into everyday life. Great job capturing that feeling.
Well, an unfortunate back injury has me bedridden today, but I used it to finally watch your awesome documentary! I think it's really cool how you shared your trip in such a unique and meaningful way for so many Sega and Shenmue fans. I hope all is going well with the follow-up and I'm greatly looking forward to it.
From one Shenmue fan to another I just want to say fantastic work with this video. It makes me nostalgic of my own journeys in Japan. Your work is a true testament of how engrossing and influential Shenmue is not just as a game but as an overall artistic experience. Hope to see more and best of luck in your endeavors.
Well, we'll be going into much more detail in the sequel. Thanks for commenting and supporting the channel as usual Seth. We both really appreciate it!
Thank you so much, my friend. I have really come to appreciate how much the Shenmue experience touches those that experience it. I don't think Yu Suzuki really knew how powerful his fiction would turn out to be. It's created this amazing community of people sharing these wonderful reminiscence and it's so heartening to read every comment. I am really glad you enjoyed it. My film making partner and I are working on a sequel. Feel free to share my work with others that may be interested. :)
Thanks so much mate! It was an amazing, irreplaceable experience that not only helped me grow as a person but also let me create this little movie here. :)
Hey man. I've haven't been able to do much of anything lately with my daughter, work and everything else, but i just wanted you to know that the first chance i got some time to myself i caught up with your channel, and this was an absolute delight to come back to. Beautiful and heartfelt. Needless to say, i wish it was longer i enjoyed it so much. To see you get to this point after watching you for so long has genuinely made me happy and i wish you the best luck in the world. All the best, Phil
This was a must for watch for anybody that even played the game. All through I wish he would have went in more detail about some of the cities and landmarks he visited. I guess it was so awesome that it should be longer. Wow great job
You're still traveling and learning more about yourself as you do so. The fact that we can see how the events in Shenmue mirror our own lives really shows how much of a profound game it really is and how this depth turns it into less of a game and more of an experience. I loved reading your story and I hope you have the best of luck in your own travels and adventures through life. :)
Wonderful documentary man! Really awesome. Ever since I finished Shenmue 1 & 2 I wanted to do exactly what you did. Im happy I watched this! Thank you for a terrific video!
This documentary is absolutely brilliant! I loved every moment of it and I think the premise of it is fantastic and would love to see more! I would gladly help fund towards a a more in depth one - more locales and cultures explored. It's genius. Thank you for doing this, you've really made my day... :-)
Wow man. First off, from the retro gamer & member of the community perspective, the dedication (time, money, effort, passion) required for this is amazing. Also, as some1 who loves traveling & believes it is worth every penny, this looked to be an amazing experience.
Truly excellent video. I currently would be unable to see a lot of these places in real life, so am grateful to be able to see a lot of this, thanks for uploading.
Wow. That was really, really heartfelt. Thanks so much for that message of support. We're going to try our hardest to give you a fantastic sequel. We're filming in October and will hopefully have a brand new entry for you in January. :)
Thank you very much for your kind words. I am currently running an Indiegogo campaign to fund the next film which will be examining the first game in much more detail than this. :)
I'm always amazed to see how after years of people that grew up playing Shenmue finally now get to express how they were touched by this amazing game thanks to social media. i hope SEGA see efforts and testimonies like yours to understand that they really have something special with Shenmue and shouldn't let it go. thank you
The game made me fall in love with China and Japan, now I speak fluent Chinese ,Japanese, worked in China and have a Chinese wife... although she thinks i am crazy for loving the game so much.... she will come round :)
This was really enjoyable Andrew. I've always wanted to visit that country... a video game that makes me what to visit that country too is Red Steel, which captures a certain feel. I really look forward to the future of this. And again great job. :)
I'm really glad you enjoyed it. If you have anyone you know that also loves Shenmue please share it as I am trying to drum up more interest in making a series. If it gets enough exposure, who knows, maybe even Sega themselves will properly let me interview them? :)
I had no idea that people would be so moved by this film. It is really heartening for me to read things like this because as I mentioned the Shenmue fanbase is an amazing and passionate one and the fact that we can all bond over things like this is something unique in the gaming community.
Great video!!! Awesome journey! Congratulations by having the determination to do this. So much memories... Wish to follow Ryo's footsteps someday too!
A damn masterpiece my friend. This may not have the hundreds of thousands of views that it deserves; but damnit I must say I love it. I believe that the few thousand that have watched it must of brought up memories. The wonderful times I've had with this game and the amazing landscapes it showed... Out of my love for this game and the nostalgia I have, I thank you. I believe every Shenmue fan thanks you! Much Respect bro, keep it up! - Josh
People like you are why I made this. You're clearly a passionate fan and seeing responses like this is absolutely fantastic. I will be setting up an IndiGoGo campaign in the near future to start raising funds for a sequel exploring the first game. I will be updating everyone on the progress of that in time. :)
The intention of the game is supposed to be examining a real transitionary time in Ryo's life. You know not just him avenging his father but also coming into adulthood with the choices he makes and the lessons he learns from older, wiser people on his travels. Thank you, I appreciate that.
Thanks man! Feel free to share it with as many Sega fans as you can and watch the latest update on the sequel to see how could be in the next documentary!
I really hope you enjoy the new movie mate. We are trying really hard to increase the quality for you! It means a lot to us to see feedback like this. You're always there with something kind to say. Thanks a lot and thanks so much for your donation!
They made Kowloon more open in Shenmue 2 because an accurate depiction of the place would create huge camera problems and that would make for frustrating gameplay (getting stuck in corners, etc).
Ha ha, I am glad you enjoyed that one. It is still one of my all time favourite episodes. Go to your inbox and then click on Compose in the top left hand corner.
This was fascinating! I just finished both games. I remember when Shenmue first came out in 1999. However, I was never able to play it due to not owning a dreamcast. Then I discovered that there was a dreamcast emulator. The 14 years of waiting to play this game paid off. I was blown away by this awesome game. Even for an older game it still holds up. Now with Shenmue 3 coming soon I am even more excited what the next adventure of Ryo and Shenhua will be.
Well, I am trying to get it out there as best I can. The more exposure this gets the easier it will be to make the sequel where I am planning on doing Yoksuka.
Really interesting video, Shenmue got me interested in Japanese and Chinese culture, the food, the martial arts, the people, the jobs, that game was truly life changing for me, hopefully sometime in my life I'll have the opportunity to travel to China and Japan, good job with the video : )
Wow! Amazing job, and totally caught me off guard, not only that it was uploaded onto TH-cam, but also that it was uploaded during your break. Absolutely breathtaking. Now how bout a Shenmue Let Me Show You *Nudge nudge wink wink*
Hey Phil! It means so much to me that after all of this time that you still have such an active connection to the channel. Do you still have my email? I would love to hear how the family is doing if you have time! Thanks again for everything Phil and I hope you manage to find time to stick around!
Shenmue fans are very much unlike any other fans I think. We will wait as long as it takes for Shenmue 3 and I don't think we're ever really going to give up hope. :P These games touched us and left an indellible mark that few games can manage with even the most competently acted script and photo realistic graphics.
He he, that was the intention. I thought it would be a nice surprise. It was basically done just kind of sitting there so I said "why not just polish it up?" so here it is. I will definitely think about the Shenmue LMSY.
I remember watching this documentary so much back in the day!
It was my pleasure! I am glad people can find enjoyment from my films. That was my aim.
This definitely deserves a spot on the YT homepage.
I'm watching it again tomorrow, sharing it on FaceBook, and showing the rest of my family.

It was my pleasure taking you guys along on the journey.

Rewatching this ages later, nostalgia. Love this channel mate
Thanks a lot mate! I really appreciate people spreading the word about it. With enough support a sequel is assured. :)

Thanks a lot pal!

Very nice documentary, so good memories of shenmue.
Ha ha, I am glad you enjoyed that one. It is still one of my all time favourite episodes. Go to your inbox and then click on Compose in the top left hand corner.
Yeah! Thanks for watching mate. :)
That was completely awesome! I'm a big Shenmue-Fan and someday I want to do the same thing: Visit all the locations from the games. Thank you so much!
Both of these are fantastic ideas! I love a bit of Shenmue on my Dreamcast every now and then. :)
Man, it would have been great to experience some of that! Thanks for sharing your experiences buddy!
This was fascinating! I just finished both games. I remember when Shenmue first came out in 1999. However, I was never able to play it due to not owning a dreamcast. Absolutely love it!!! This really inspired me to travel too...
Well, I am trying to get it out there as best I can. The more exposure this gets the easier it will be to make the sequel where I am planning on doing Yoksuka.
It was originally longer but found that it was better condensed a little.
Thanks a lot man. I am going to be addressing some stuff about the documentary in a coming update but I will organise another cast soon.
Really interesting video, Shenmue got me interested in Japanese and Chinese culture, the food, the martial arts, the people, the jobs, that game was truly life changing for me, hopefully sometime in my life I'll have the opportunity to travel to China and Japan, good job with the video : )
I am glad you were able to experience these locations in some manner then. :)
Amazing. I'd love to go there someday. What about Yokosuka ?
Absolutely Great man! I wish i can travel to Hongkong the next years maybe. Many Greetings from Germany
Greetings my German friend. The sequel will be out soon!
Had no idea this was up! Watching tonight when I have some free time.
Wow! Amazing job, and totally caught me off guard, not only that it was uploaded onto TH-cam, but also that it was uploaded during your break. Absolutely breathtaking.
Now how bout a Shenmue Let Me Show You *Nudge nudge wink wink*
It was a shame that my budget did not permit for a trip to Guilin unfortunately.
I am glad you enjoyed it!
great video thanks, just watched the other one in Japan too, really awesome really enjoyed them
I am glad you did!
It was probably a combination of a few things. I am sure that was definitely a consideration though.
I hope you enjoy it. :)

Thank you very much Amigo. I am glad you enjoyed it!
No need to apologise. I am just glad you enjoyed it!
Amazing video mate, you are living my dream !!
I am glad you enjoyed it, my friend.
You could easily save enough money to go.
Great video. Can you please tell me the song playing at 11:30? I like the progression a couple seconds after that. Thanks.
Thanks a lot! A friend of mine flew in a few days after I arrived and during the night time sequence I was with a friend from the hostel.

I am really happy to see you enjoyed it so much. :)
Hey Phil! It means so much to me that after all of this time that you still have such an active connection to the channel. Do you still have my email? I would love to hear how the family is doing if you have time!
Thanks again for everything Phil and I hope you manage to find time to stick around!
I will actually be addressing that in a coming update. :)
I could have watched this for hours, very interesting.
So so nice. I love shenmue. Thx so much. I would like to see it on my own but i will never be able of it. Great Doku☺
Have fun in Japan!
Thank you very much for sharing! That is the best way I can think of getting it around. :)
Shenmue fans are very much unlike any other fans I think. We will wait as long as it takes for Shenmue 3 and I don't think we're ever really going to give up hope. :P
These games touched us and left an indellible mark that few games can manage with even the most competently acted script and photo realistic graphics.
Thanks a lot mate! Well I will post about the Indiegogo campaign when I am ready. :D
BRILLIANT! ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT VIDEO!
Thank you so much. The sequel will be coming soon.
this going up on facebook tonight in the shenmue group I'm in, hopefully it spreads the word humming bird!
That was SO. FREAKIN', AWESOME!!
He he, that was the intention. I thought it would be a nice surprise. It was basically done just kind of sitting there so I said "why not just polish it up?" so here it is.
I will definitely think about the Shenmue LMSY.
All very professionally done, great job. BTW who did you go with?
It's worthwhile! It's a great place. I will be addressing the question of "What about Shenmue?" in an upcoming update.
Thanks a lot! I will address that in a coming update video. :)
Amazing! Im from Brasil and love ShenMue game! Very cool trip and video!
We could have a massive end boss battle and everything.
Here's hoping you get to make Ryo's Footsteps 3 one day...
God, me too!
np man I hope the little I did helped. You had such passion for it that I couldn't not, plus I really wanted to see the outcome =)
Great!
Now, what about Shenmue I?
I am very passionate about the franchise. I actually picked up my very first Shenmue from a Gametraders. When they were still around. :P
