I swear every five seconds of watching this video my friend and I were going "ooh that's neat". Then we started discussing what a Gaston deck would entail (put Maurice in the asylum, gather a mob, etc) and I have to admit he probably had the funnier idea of "collect enough lines to sing the Gaston song for a bonus".
Saw this comment, had to say I love him too. And whaddya know, I have that Dedede picture saved on my phone. Glad to know there’s someone else out there.
Personally, I'd be all for an expansion pack based on Disney cartoon shows like Gravity Falls and Phineas and Ferb. It'd be fun to play as Dr Drakken, Dr Doofenshmirtz, Bill Cipher and other villains from Disney's TV lineup.
I know I’m late, but there actually is a homebrewing community of people making custom villains, and Bill Cipher & Dr. Doofenshmirtz have been made. I’ve even seen some people make custom mover pieces for them and sell them on Etsy! (They’re also included in the Complete Villainous game by notmydance on the TableTop Simulator Workshop)
What I love about Villainous is that it allows me to choose my level of complexity. Not difficulty, necessarily, but some of the villain choices have much more moving parts and special rules than others do. Many of my friends have more experience with complicated board games than I do, and they can enjoy getting into the nitty-gritty of those characters while I avoid them and play the more straightforward ones, and we all play the same game. That's a really special thing
There’s a custom homebrew villain of Glomgold out there (mainly for digital play in Tabletop Simulator, but there’s nothing stopping you from finding the files they use and printing them out yourself!)
One of the best board game reviews I have seen and as a big fan of villainous, it's nice to see someone who shares the same positive views. I actually think you should do some more content relevant board game reviews :)
7:19 Lol, that's the exact effect this game had on me. Normally I'd ignore board games that would take more than 5 minutes to figure out but now I'm playing stuff like Root, Everdell, or Gloomhaven.
The bowler hat guy wasn’t the villain of Meet the Robinsons. The hat was. It’d be interesting to see it in the game with a take over mechanic, where you can control other characters to get them to do your bidding, like it does in the film.
Jeez those cards are super pretty. I would probably consider getting this for its aesthetics alone, but I'm not that into Disney anymore. And no Gaston??? Inexcusable. I never know what to expect from this channel, but I love the enthusiasm no matter what the subject is.
I think what I love most about Villainous is how it's pretty much a modern fighting game in table top form. Playing this I immediately recall my experiences with games like Killer Instinct 2013, Skullgirls and hell even Smash Bros, games with playable characters that have very specific tool kits and utility, each a unique means of achieving victory. And sure enough with its focus on villain personality and quirks this table top game ends up scratching that fighting game itch. 1:52 - Also holy shit I think I just reached enlightenment from that one joke XDXDXDXDXD
This wasn’t expected at all, and I love it! I’ve been playing the game for a long while now and making customs for it; and I agree with every positive and negative aspect made.
Was curious about the game before watching your video. Afterwards, couldn't wait to try it out. My sister got me the base game for Christmas and I getting an expansion today. A great piece of villain-based media that is actually about the villian. Not to mention one of if not the only way we'll ever be able to play as the villian in a Disney game.
Speaking of Disney villains, I was curious if you've heard of a little Japan-exclusive gacha game called Twisted Wonderland. Gameplay isn't the deepest thing, but the character designs and story are a hoot. Mostly thanks to those elements being done by Yana Toboso. You can tell she has an appreciation for the classic Disney villains while still trying her own thing out.
As a massive tabletop fan, villainous surprised me. I’m a huge Disney fan but I’ve been hesitant of the potential for a true board game based on this way because of what you were saying with Disney’s track record of simplistic kid games. This game has so much depth and feels like a true card game with layers of strategy. Seeing this have somewhat of a competitive scene is when this clicked that not only am I having a blast with this game, but it does have an element to where I have brought this over to play with friends who are big into tcg’s and other games and they too have loved it. Even after we’re done playing we created a tier list with reasonings as to who our mains are and different state they options for not only play the different characters, but also how to fate opponents effectively. Since villainous Disney has made other games such as the haunted mansion one as well as a big thunder mountain game and both are also very fun.
Thankfully the newer ones of the normal villainous sets (not the marvel ones) have been getting a lot more clean and concise while still adding new twists to keep all the character options interesting and unique from one another.

There's also a new expansion coming out at the end of February here in the States containing The Horned King, Lady Tremaine, and everyone's most requested villain for this game Gaston.
Little did you know new expansion and it has the Horned King in that one along with Gaston and Lady Tremaine
It came out February 28, 2021
Hey, you called a few of the new Villains!
Also, I agree Dr. Facilier is The Best and Madam Mim is Cool.
Imagine how complicated it would be if they made an Xehanort board
LOVED this video.
Thanks
It's the same - but twice!
Guess what - they added Horned King *and* Gurgi! Check out Despicable Plots!
I've seen this game at the store and was interested in getting it. Now I think it'll be worth getting at least one of the expansion sets.
Edgar Balthazar, The Phantom Blot, The Coachman/Honest John & Gideon please
You're getting your wish. A brand new Villainous expansion will be released tomorrow, and it features Gaston. Lady Tremaine and the Horned King will also be included in this expansion.
I'd like to see an expansion pack with the MCP from "Tron", or Clu from "Tron: Legacy". Either one.
I have to know, has B played Lorcana?
Oh wow. I'm surprised they hadn't made a deck for Frozen, Tangled, or Zootopia yet. You'd think they be in the first or second box or something.
Tangled has its own deck, as can be seen briefly around 05:20 in the video. And my guess why Zootopia, and especially Frozen, haven't been turned into decks is the 'twist' nature of their villains.
I wonder what Oogie Boogie's goal and mechanics be like?
we NEED a dr. Doofinsmirtz deck.
I really loved this video
