I loved the question about College Football’s golden age. I’m a wee bit older, so I go with the 80s and 90s and Jan 1 slate of bowl games. The BCS era comes in at a close second. Of course, I’m a Miami fan, so I loved our decade of dominance along with Bowden at Florida St.
The FSU-Miami era was short-lived and turned primarily on programs that had no academic or behavioral standards and were willing to buy anyone to put on the field. The era was a descent into the worst of American football.
Funny though, UGA Beat Ohio St. In the same building year before last...now y'all don't wanna talk about that year, but this year, but you bringing up something from 150 years ago. So there ya go.

The golden age of college football was between about 1993-2010. Tail end of Miami's run, Nebraska's legendary run, years of great Florida State teams, USC's run, the Rose Bowl with Vince Young's heroics, the Tebow era, 2007's chaos, the start of the Saban dynasty, and the year of Cam Newton's dominance... all before the playoff ruined the sport, players became infinite transfer NIL mercenaries, and bowl games mattered. The sport was simply more interesting year over year. All proponents of the playoff are enemies of the sport.
I didn’t have to be taught to hate USC. It came pretty easy following the 2003 season when they pitched a hissy fit that they were the “real national champs” when I didn’t recall ever seeing them on the field with LSU. It was pitiful, and it put a bad taste in my in my mouth about them.

Picking against a team (even 20 times in a row) does not say anything on if you dislike or like the team. For example, I’m picking OSU over ND - my guess is by like 15 - but trust me when I say I reallllyyyy want yall to win.
Played football 12 years of my life, watched it for just about all of it. This is the first I'm hearing/learning about the "middle 8", maybe I've just never noticed it in a previous broadcast.

ND has shown it to be almost a skill set.
Growing up in Texas & Louisiana, I felt the exact same way about the PAC 10 as you did Pate. I reckon we are about the same age. I still don’t like USC though lol
I get the whole hating the smart phone for the crowd thing, but I think that affects more of the championship game crowd, not as much of the on campus home game crowd.
Y'all actully thought Dabo was not going to use the Portal. Dude just held out one season more than everyone else to prove a point. Still won his conference without the Portal.
Thanks for bringing back the PTSD that I acquired from the USC/Auburn home-and-home. Auburn also got blanked by GaTech the next week. Sigh. Also, Bama going out to UCLA and getting beat. It was a weird time.
Joe Tess and Sean McDonough are 1A/1B commentators. personally i prefer McDonough but both are fantastic, do not understand why anyone complains when either of them are calling the games
Ohio state will get theirs. ND probably is gonna need a big offensive game to win by their standards, but do not count out ND defense. I think Ohio state is held in check but Riley Leonard just isn’t gonna win a natty. If ND runs for 275 yards on 7.9 yards per carry they’ll pull it out but I don’t see that happening. OSU wins 28-16. What isn’t getting talked about is that if there’s any secondary in the country that can stop Ohio state, it’s notre dame. USC in the mid 2000s was kinda like the Deion Tax (Or Belichick Tax) that we see now. There was no NFL team in LA then, so they drew a lot of attention from the 2nd biggest media market in the country. It became insufferable to hear about USC from every tv show, website, etc. Very much the world vs USC.
USC Trojans won the National Championship in both 2003 and 2004. The graphic should be fixed. It only reflected 2004. Texas kept them from a 3-pete by knocking them off in the Rose Bowl, Jan 1st, 2006.

Golden Era of college football was the BCS era by a mile. It went for 16 years, and paired a legit national title game every single year. 16 for 16. And remember, in 2013, one of the BCS computer polls had lowly Auburn as #1 team in the country in week 3....and people said that was why it needed to end. Except, Auburn started on an ass kicking tear after the LSU game--allnthe way to the national title game. So, there wasnt one single year where the BCS got it wrong. Its not the BCS's fault that Auburn didnt claim a share of the title in 2004. Im sure if the BCS was allowed to put three teams on the field in the most chaoticly hilarious football game of all time, OU vs AU vs USC, it wouldve lol.
Josh, ND is 52-25-2 and +6.0 ATS over the last 5 years. That is #1 in FBS and #2 isn’t close. They are 12-2-1 and +10.1 this season. That is no more reliable bet in sports than ND ATS. They are constantly underestimated and disrespected. Why do you think this is? It isn’t random, btw. The odds against that are huge. I have watched you pick against them over and over and miss (when it made no sense to me). Have you thought about this? Where is the bias coming from?

so I see that many people are ready to have Penn State as the favorites to win the national championship next year because they went far in the CFP and returns almost all their starters from this season. we heard this about the following teams this PAST year: Virginia Tech: who finished 6-6 Nebraska: who finished 6-6 Oklahoma State: who finished 3-9 Iowa State: who finished 10-3 let’s pump the brakes on Penn State. 😂😂😂
Hi Josh. Me and my friend watch your show all the time and like you said last video you cover college football because you love it and me and my friend love college football too and that's why we made our own channel. I just wanna know what's the best way to grow our channel and how did it start out for you when you first started making videos?
I would improve your grammar and sentence structures. The run on sentences makes me have no desire to check your channel out. You need to present yourself as somewhat professional. Your post sounds like it was written by an excited 13 year old.
Pate state and friends
Definitely 95-2010. All 5 power conferences head teams that could and did win the Natty.
Pate's Place....
I have really enjoyed the view Cube brings on a broadcast.
Christians vs Catholics
Can they both lose? Can ties be brought back just this once?
Should be called “The great state of Pate Freight lifts weights with greats”
You gotta talk to them in their gym though
Having an academy sports + outdoor down the street is great
I’m going Ohio State 24, Notre Dame 17
anyone who said Notre Dame will destroy Ohio State is an idiot
I haven’t heard anyone saying that
@@antoniowright7879 you would be surprised
@jarrodskufcagaming5203 this is the first time I've even heard the concept brought up.
You and Klatt, Co-Commisioners
josh you keep saying the national championship isn’t end all be all. but you barely mentioned any of the competitive bowl games or drama surrounding them. last month it’s been all CFP talk and some recruiting here and there.
Golden age for me was 2009 to 2021 and I think everyone knows why and most people hate it but it’s because Alabama ruled college football 😂❤Roll Tide and now it’s set up where no team can have a dynasty like that ever again
I think co- commissioner with klatt would be the best decision ever
Total gridlock
You keep doubting and they keep winning so, as far as I'm concerned, you picking OSU to win is part of NDs mojo to win. If you picked ND to win, then for sure they're losing to OSU.
Ohio state has taught us that if you spend enough money…not only can you win a title…but also still lose to Michigan.
No matter what happens…Ryan day still lost to Michigan. 😂😂😂
Ohio State loses by 1 point, missing a 48 yard field goal in the waning seconds. JP burned in effigy in Columbus (not Georgia).
Idk pate I love Joe, but it’s hard for me to put anyone above Chris Fowler
Gus is the only answer!
Josh, his last 3 hires before this were from outside of the program……
Dabo Swinney is the Michael Jordan of Mark Richts right now unless he goes back to win a National Championship
