@@Financiallyfreeauthor That's the point, there is no truth to religions! It's nothing but a tool for mass control, it's political. Before the dominance of science and separation of the state and religion, everything was regulated by the church. We call those times the "dark ages" for a reason. People believed the stupidest 💩 and were willing to wage genicidal wars in the name of God. But as soon as people started to think freely and critically they started to turn their backs on their churches and the influence of Christian doctrine and ideology started to deminish. That's what those who push those ideologies are afraid of. And that's the reason why Islam is so brutally strict on upholding its rules and dogmatic. Neither its founder Muhammad nor the Imams who followed him up to this day are willing to give up that power and the aggressive patriarchal system that they have. That's why Muslims get indoctrinated since birth and punished for disobedience, so that they never question their ideology. There's nothing truthful to fear mongering and fanatism, there's nothing truthful to being forever stuck in an archaic backward system that rewards violence and hatred towards others. Religions are cults, they are poison that divides people instead of uniting them, which should be the actual goal of a loving god, if he exists.

A someone who only became muslim about 5-6 years ago, i was one of those asking questions about islam and thank god i found people who wee happy too teach me which i then teach to others. Pls be aware that majority of people that call themself muslim, ae not actually muslim, and simply come from a culture in which islam had an influence on hundreds of years ago. As a Turkish young adult, political islam ruined my childhood, my teenage years and killed my hopes and dreams. And we are talking about a country that's supposedly secular and the people are mostly cultural muslims. She is so strong for going through all of that, but I wish she didn't have to.
I wanna add to the al sirat topic. That in itself is horrible, but I also grew up being told that the only people who didn't sin were the prophets, that it was inevitable for us to sin. So, while trying to not sin bc you don't want to burn in hell forever, I was also always terrified bc it was inevitable. I had panic attacks about death when I was just a tiny child.

My old neighbors were refugees from Iran. I am going to contact them and see if they’d want to speak on your podcast. I think more should know their story which ended better than a lot of peoples. Their story is insane and shows just how extreme and horrible extremism can be.
He spoke out in a blog basically saying “whether you follow the book or not, if you are a good person, that’s all that matters…” he was put into jail, wife was taken to a literal concentration camp and was used as a sexual slave and suffers from physical repercussions even years later from the abuse, their son was taken and put into military training (luckily was 3/4 so has few memories of the time). Their story is wild, their escapes were even wilder and sound like a movie. He was sentenced to death…sometimes they’d come get him, put a hood on him, click their guns like it was time and laugh and put him back and other horrible tortures…he pretended to be super happy in his 4x4 cell, had chats with invisible folk and a “great time”, I guess they didn’t believe in execution of someone who was mentally ill, put on his hood, drove him to middle of nowhere said such and dropped him. He got his son freed somehow, they WALKED to Turkey from Iran, slept outside the embassy and refused to leave until seen, after an extended period they got his wife back…and were granted refuge by the US.
They have some serious trauma and are the bravest people I’ve ever encountered. They are beyond kind and just making a simple statement on his blog caused pure insanity. They are extremely happy to have their freedom here, have both gone back to college, their son gets top grades, is a fantastic athlete and the sweetest kid, they are alwayssss joking, smiling, helping others, always bbq-ing, playing sports, gardening and just loving life now. By their attitudes? You’d think they grew up in Disney. They are truly so grateful and I am grateful we have them.

Unfortunately, the most prominent critics of Islam in the West aren't speaking from their own experiences; they're nationalist hardliners who use the plight of Muslim women and LGBT people to claim support for those groups while simultaneously pushing for legislation against their rights. Meanwhile, according to Pew Research, American Muslims are only 2% less likely to support gay marriage than American Christians. The knee-jerk reaction is shitty and I hope the people you've met apologize, but that reaction does exist for a reason beyond just 'haha progressives are stupid.'

I went to Morocco and Senegal 4 months ago. What was eerie is that so many streets were all men. Even in cafes there'd be groups of men and no women, just me. Made me scared to walk down the streets as I was tge only woman. I asked someone at a nail salon why and she told me women have to stay at home. I was even told women can't give call to prayer because her voice my arouse people 🤨 wild. I think Indonesia was the best Muslim country I've been to as I went during Ramadan years ago but I saw plenty of women able to go out alone. My experience in all those countries were decent, men (outside of one teenage boy in Agadir) were respectful. Makes me feel weird seeing women in full niquabs on the beach or not able to enjoy a simple coffee alone at a cafe or a walk. Probably will avoid the more Sharia countries.

As someone who grew up removed from any spirituality, I went through a phase in college where I was very curious about religions and studied both Christianity and Islam. Then after my BA I lived in Lebanon for 3 years, which famously hosts 18 officially recognized sects, and saw how the application of those doctrines in everyday life, if carried to a more extreme level, did nothing but divide and antagonize people. Needless to say it cured me from any further interest in religion (for added context I LOVE Lebanon and had tons of "secular" and culturally Christian/Muslim friends there, but I also experienced a lot of exclusionism and "us vs. them" mentality, as well as people with very extreme views)

@emro164 I agree with you to an extent, however, circumcision is mainly done under anesthesia or with pain killers while the boy is still a baby AND he still has the ability to enjoy sex as an adult. FGM, only a very very small percentage is done in a medical facility, and ALL variations of FGM permanently destroy the girls ability to enjoy sex. It is a complete mutilation and desecration of the female anatomy. It has an extremely high mortality rate. It makes pregnancy and birth excruciating and nearly impossible without surgical intervention. Its done on an older child in a group setting, where they are held down and cut with a razor blade under no anesthetics or main management. It's to dehumanize the women and turn them into nothing but a walking incubator. It's barbaric. There is a difference.

It would have been nice to hear some acknowledgement of how the backdrop of settler colonialism violence feeds into extremism, and how just like how 'islamophobia' has been weaponized to sheild abusive islamic states from criticism, the same thing is happening with the word 'antisemitism'.

Thank you SO much for sharing this truth!!! It's extremely important - and even life saving for all women to hear, know and understand. Many years ago, I dated a Muslim man from the Mid East. I did not know very much about his religion, but he always treated me really well. However, I had a friend who dated a Muslim, and she was under continual under threat by him, daily! Her life was really terrifying! I lost contact with her, so I have no idea where she is, or if she is even alive. 💔😭

I'm so glad you have begun to bring in ex-Muslims. It is so hard for non-Muslims to live in a Muslim majority country but it is even harder for Muslims to leave their religion. I hope that you will not get a barage of Muslims coming on here to insult because they will. I believe the threats that Yasmine is receiving because from experience, it is not out of the realm of possibilities. Out of all the ex-religious communities, it is important for us to lend an extra hand for ex-Muslims as the odds stacked against them are too great. And I hope that Western liberals will stop burying their heads in the sand or cry islamophobia because it is beyond frustrating because voices like Yasmine's is important to disengage radical Islam. Just looking at my home country Malaysia and how the influence of the Arab Spring impacted the Malay Muslims who adopt more Arab culture as the years go by than they do Malay.

Regarding ur "attack" comment, if u knowingly bring in a person who lies and distorts a faith the people of that faith will call u out on it. It's aggravating because u want excuses to hate the religion and can't do so when people clarify the truth and refute this nonsense video

What she said was kinda dumb. Hoping for peace doesnt help this conversation whatsoever. Obviously most people dont want others to die but to blame islam and hamas for most of what is happening is idiotic. Hamas started in 1987, this conflict or genocite started in 1948. Hamas is a terrorist group, but so is the idf. While i do not condem Hamas, i also dint condem the idf and i am siding with the palestinian citizens who are suffering the most

It’s hard to hear, especially because I work for an public health org that practices cultural sensitivity as much as possible, but I do understand there must be a balance between respecting people’s cultures while also stopping harm when it is happening.
