    People keep asking about why he is clicking his buttons instead using the keybinds and I think the answer to that is really obvious, so you can see exactly what ability he is using. This also gives a quick glance at the tooltips for certain abilities if you are paying attention. But of course people can't seem to wrap their heads around the idea that this is a showcase of an alpha state game.

      @@smoothiedeluxe7422 It's not about whether OP or UP but how good it feels playing, the class fantasy has nothing to do with if you're beating everyone. If it doesn't feel satisfying to play with fun abilities and mechanics then to many people it doesn't matter if you're top DPS.
      Saying that I'd say Ranger in GW2 is one of the best I've seen and given how fun it's to traverse GW2's open world, being a Ranger feels very thematic as an adventurer.

    Seeing people jankily climbing trees for real made me excited. They should lean harder into the traversal and movement. Ranger should have a rope line it can shoot across gaps, better animations for climbing trees. Just basic physics-based traversal shenanigans. Playing around with boats and harpoons in archage was fun as hell.

    I think the traps need to be slightly camouflaged by the environment, if you’re in snow, grass, gravel, etc, you should only see the spikes. Not really a trap if the enemy players can see it

      Id be fine with both. Traps can be hidden, but they can also be out in the open to funnel enemies around or just scare them. Think about the anti tank mines on Ukraine's roads and highways, they're not hidden at all, but they're there to slow the enemy and make them not only funnel into an area but slow them down

      Look at cait traps in league, you dont need em to be hidden to be effective, cutting terrain navigation options and being able to combo into them from hard cc is enough of an advantage already for traps that get set up this fast AND from a range AND mid combat

    I think the main reason the graphics look so off, is that there doesn't seem to be any ambient occlusion in the game yet. I'm not sure if this is something Lumen can take care of, but either way it's clear their focus right now is developing the gameplay mechanics and building the world geometry, before they go through and update all the lighting and post-processing.

      Dude the combat looks mid. After playing new world for so long now I couldnt see myself usuing tab target, I like aiming my shots and I like projectiles more than a spell or arrow bending round a corner to hit someone plus you can’t escape unless you line of sight.

    Damn, Ranger kit is sooooo gooooood. AoC is introducing some mechanics I've never known before in other MMOs. The only thing I'm really concern of with live service games like this is latency and potential rubberbanding. Hope the game will be well-optimized and they don't skimp on server infra.

    Air movement so sick, really gives a mobility option that a ranger character needs. I hope each class gets someone who really understands it and who is really passionate about it to be in charge of it. Really great job from the first showcase to second

    Remaining cautiously optimistic. My biggest concern from day 1 is still, the game having it's own personality. The things that are hard to quantify like fun, chaos, drama, ambience, entertainment factor, humor etc. etc.

      That's a concern for every game you haven't played yet because fun, chaos, drama, player interaction is something you experience by playing and creating your own story and memories within the world.
      Now the ambience (from what i've seen) is definitely there to set up unique and distinctive looking areas. Music and sounds also play a big role in that, can't say much about that

    One thing I wouldn't underestimate, look at the friendliness between them, that's soo crucial on a team developing something like a PC game, holy this is great to see. I wasn't planning on playing since it's supposed to be more hardcore focused and I was off put by the planned time frame to max lvl, but gosh, they baiting me real strong here 😂

      it's not really hardcore per say although the game does seem to have something for everyone especially the hardcore audience this is a game that you don't have to constantly micro-manage and worry about being productive but rather a game that you could just have fun and chill a lot of MMO's are missing that factor today which is one of the reasons that I personally haven't touched one since 2013

      @@onyx4469 The problem with constantly feeling like you have to be productive and not fall behind also is a community problem and happens in every online game. There is an insane amount of online resources to gather information about what the best way to farm gold, gear and resources is, what the best classes are, how i level in the fastest way, and so on.
      The best way to get rid of that is to find like-minded people that don't care about whats optimal and just wanna have fun in the game, even if it's non-optimal or less efficient than other things

      You’re always at risk of dying but PK’ers take on huge, huge risk, not just from the corruption system but retaliation and bounty hunters.

      Earliest is 2027, probably 2028 or later.
      Remember that after Alpha 2 there's Beta 1 and then Beta 2.
      And the time between Alpha 1 and 2 were 3 years, I don't expect anything less than 2 years before alpha and beta.

      we said the game probably will release in 2023 back in 2018... I wouldnt be surprised if the game released in 2028 tbh... the challenges to release an MMO in exclusively DX12 + UE5 is just massive because of the sheer base pc spec requirement, and the server load to handle 2000+ people playing in the same map...

    Wish that the rain death aoe ability also had a 2nd effect if you held the button, maybe even keep raining down arrows at the cost of -%dmg or -% armor, so you'd be more vulnearble

      I like that the team is so invested in the game personally, and it feels like they aren't rushed whatsoever. Just feels like they are having fun building the game and when it's done it's done, yeah it's annoying to have to wait so long but tbh I'd rather wait 4 more years for a great game then 1 year for an ok game.

    I get that they like this "wind" blowing, but it seems a bit excessive. Even when standing between massive rocky hills this wind is still hitting the character. Also makes the clothing seem super light weight, even though the ranger is wearing some thick fur on her pants. Might be a small detail, but I am hoping they will add a bit more weight to materials like that, so it seems more realistic.

      I agree that wind shouldn't always be like that, but in this location, it makes perfect sense. Between mountain ranges it creates a wind funnel, generally rocky area with little vegetation to block wind

      from a previous stream, I saw that the wind power was a slider that they cranked up. I think they believe that lots of wind is cool because it shows all the cape physics and whatnot. I do understand that some people would find that offputting but I think that would be very easily adjustable since they even have a slider for it.

    This whole showcase was a step closer to archeages combat and thats really good to see considering how heavily archeage has inspired ashes. Disengage and omnidirectional disengage is just backdrop with the ancestral version of backdrop that makes it go forward instead of backward. Leaning into enabling more of a kiting playstyle is also very reminiscent of that game and its exactly what i hoped to see them do. Even having to flip your camera to use the skill aggressively was something people did before the ancestral was introduced and still did since it was a menu option that just made you pick one. In this way their approach is more intuitive and thats really good to see. However, snipe in archeage did pierce/do AOE raid dmg and id prefer that here as well

    The weapon combos, and a seperate skill tree for weapons only, is exactly like DCUO. That game was WAY ahead of its time.

    I would presume that the team is much more well oiled now than ever before and therefore the gap between alpha tests will become months instead of years. If we start getting multiple tests per year then beta shouldn't be all that far away.

      @@maxrusty3596 I don't feel that he means that tanks shouldn't have to do anything, that would be stupid. I think his intent is more that as long as a tank is attacking a target and using skills, they should have aggro. It should not be up to other players (often by diminishing their own gameplay experience) to ensure the tank maintains threat. No one wants to wait to play/stop playing in order for aggro checks, that's decidedly unfun.

U should have to play well to maintain aggro and if u have great gear and do amazing dps i think u should have to watch your threat too. This push and pull is what makes party gameplay in an mmo fun.       ​@@maxrusty3596 He never mentioned a stance where you can't lose threat at all. He said the tank should not have to struggle to maintain threat, not that you should be able to stand around doing nothing and just have aggro. What a binary and reductive way to view what he said.
      He also says that that's a philosophical concept as opposed to a specific outline of gamplay mechanics, which is what the aggro stance idea you pulled out of thin air would be.
      As a side note, if you are doing "amazing dps" and have to watch your aggro, that's punishing good gameplay by forcing you to throttle back, how is that fun?
      PS: in the context you've used it in your final sentence, it's sight, as in related to vision, not site, as in related to location.

    They need to tune down the effects of the Skills, its waaaay to much. This is a Ranger not a mage, there should be no fire or other flashy effects. Just maybe something windy, but very light.

    I liked Rift talent tree/ class speccing. You could be a 1 like a healer and then swap to dps or tank if you wanted it be a hybrid of anything.

    It's wild how far ahead GW2 still is in terms of MMO gameplay, over a decade after it's release. Such a shame it stumbled so hard in terms of marketing and group-/community building content.

I'd say it's one of the best in the genre. Aside from it being "way too fast paced" for you, what else made it feel boring? And up to what level did you get to? Genuinely curious.

      @@tjac7027 I’ve never been more hyped for a game in my life, I loved the first GW. However what made me dislike GW2 is pretty much the combat and the instanced zones that destroyed my immersion and the feeling that you’re in a living world. For the combat, I hated how every animation looked like it was sped up x4. An archer had a machine gun in his hands, a warrior moved like a super sayan, etc. I originally loved the idea of a guardian being able to deploy a protection bubble for his teammates, in the end that ability lasted 0.5 seconds and was a glorified pushback.

    Whats great about this game is while listening to this at work i wasnt watching the screen at all times. When he was using abilities, i could hear and tell what was going on with most of it.

    And this is all without the crossover between archetypes. Ranger... but you sub cleric so you get healing arrow, or sub mage for lightning arrows and that disengage becomes a teleport etc.

      Imagine bosses has roaring mechanics that pralayze players in similar fashion to monster hunter. but as a tank you roar skill to taunt the monster, and if you time it just right when the monster roars you can cancel his roar and debuff (like he got scared or something).

      As a tank main, i kind of agree with Asmon that threat is not really a fun mechanic to deal with most of the time. I prefer to play a game of timing my mitigation abilities to prevent dying in rough situations while still dealing meaningful dps and keeping up buffs/debuffs, even if it's less than a proper damage dealer.
      It is also not fun for damage dealers if they are capped and deemed to afk because the Tank is a weaker player or learning the game and constantly struggles with keeping the mobs

    Longer leashes equates to easier mobs. If the mobs are forced to stay by the crater and can help each other out, the difficulty will increase.

    I'd like to see more realistic "backpacks", carrying weight, ammunition, etc. This would shake up the ability score distribution to include more STR and CON and even DEX if stumbling or tripping or injuries were incurred with max carry weight, "uneven ground", Dex modifier. I would also like to see ammunition become a finite thing. This would deliver the ranged class meta to a new place... one of care used with ammunition, magical recovery of ammunition, and force ranged classes to rely on other things. Perhaps to mitigate the unattractiveness or risk of using ranged classes would give quick craft in the field skills, class specific items to hold more ammunition, magical ammunition, bonuses to dual wielding or some such thing so the ranged classes might have to flee, pick up ammo dropped by a teammate or shift to melee weapons. In real life (I know we're talking about a fantasy computer game here), you'd wait out the guy with the arrows, or stay at range or develop a tactic to the "machine gun nest" ranged class attacks are similar to. I know MMOs have essentially balanced games to the point where everyone is capable of killing each other, but I think it's kind of shit, still. Or, perhaps, I'm just never satisfied. I've come very close with several different MMOs, but nobody has done it well enough. I think waypoints should be prohibitively expensive, or at least expensive enough you don't want to just pop around at will all the time. In a pinch, sure, spend 10g to call down the god's favor, but most of the time you'll be humping it. In a game with mounts, there is very little point when you can pop around from waypoint to waypoint. The terrain should be significantly different.... elevation, trees, creeks, bushes, dry patches... you should be able to sense where you are if you've been there a hundred times. The nodes popping up in different places is a great idea, but unique terrain all over doesn't preclude random nodes.
    Pet death should be more significant... a much greater loss... even an "emotional debuff" due to grief, or a temporary rage buff due to harming the pet. Pets should have a toggle for flee at 25% hp, or leap to intercept a fatal blow on the ranger but at greater harm to the pet. Pet respawn should take a considerable amount of time. Think carefully what a balanced class means... Class A can dish out 100 DPS with no magic expended and a single weapon.... Class B can dish out 100 DPS from only magic... Class C can dish out 75 DPS from one weapon, and 25 from a pet. What benefit, other than flavor and variety is to be had from playing a ranger?
    As far as balance goes, I think IMBALANCE is actually key to shaking up the meta and standing out from predecessors. Who is feared in the end game? If the answer is everyone, I think it's sad. It's common and addresses equality, but I'd like to see something new. For example, levels gained at different exp targets. Maybe warrior types level faster and have an advantage because they unlock new skills before casters. Casters would take twice or three times as long to level up, but their spells would be more effective. By the time end game comes around, perhaps there are very very very few that attain the highest level. Maybe it would take 200 game hours to attain the last level. 150 hours to attain the last 10% of levels. Serious obstacles to MAXing out level. In addition, characters are sent to LIMBO for several hours if they die at very high level. This would promote using alts, revisitation of lower level areas due to primary character being out of commission, and a faster cycle of characters, greater focus put on healers or healing skills.
    It pains me to see 95% of the player base at max level. It really sickens me to be honest. It should be tremendously difficult and easy to lose if duking it out with demon lords, demi-gods, and leviathans.
    I look towards EVE online for more inspiration to shake up the meta. Perhaps Ashes of Creation is too close to completion to make any of these drastic changes to philosophy, but when a game starts looking "Samey", I start to lose interest. Also, when a dev company shows you EVERYTHING as it is developing, the game also loses some of its appeal. Like watching a 10 minute long trailer for a movie. Just show me 30 seconds, honor your word by producing a COMPLETE game, Alpha/Beta test in complete secrecy with a select 1000 players bound by NDAs. Make celebrities out of the testers so they adhere to a stricter rubric of quality.

    is there a feature of something that when casting a spell or anything you can stand still or either run but when standing still you have faster casts and slows casting when moving?
    and if the player has higher mastery over the spell or the class it can negates that slow cast when moving or maybe have higher cast speed?

    thing i notice is they have some buggy or bugged snow shader on the rocks, on bigger rocks they have some white color creep up from the ground, the snow shader doesnt know if it should touch the bottom since its in contact with a snowy surface or not.

    This Archer showcase is amazing. I've never played an archer/ranger in any game, and maybe Ashes of Creation will be first time I try one. They look really fun to play, like Asmongold says, reminds me of something you'd see from BDO or something.

    They really did a great marketing job for this game...
    Alpha 1 to streamers and VIP with non-NDA to spread the hype on the game
    Alpha 2 sold for 250$ (to play in Q3 2024) or Beta sold 150 $ (to play maybe around Q2 2005)
    or else, wait for years the so-called "launch" while they milk players with those abusive packages...
    What a shame...

    TLDR: Range dps should be able to output more damage if "kept in pocket" and less if forced to become mobile. Think Legolas v. Police Girl (Seras Victoria)

    The lighting defiantly needs some work. @14:00 it's hard to discern the player sprite from the color in the snowy rock in the mid foreground. It, as a whole looks amazing! I'm LOVING the Dragon Age Inquisition vibes! That game had me rolling along for a couple hundred hours!

    I love that the caravan trading system creates a dynamic event that players can join in for rewards. So It gives people an incentive to protect each other from PvP too. Something archage was missing.

    The movement animations still look a bit stiff and sped up. I hope that gets some more polish too, like the combat animations have

    ik the animations look nice.. But it looks more like a mage with a bow than an archer. I wanted more "realistic" abilities.

    "This game died before it came out" As one of the top streamers in the world watches it on his stream posts it on his youtube. Also knowing peon will cover it. This team knows what they are doing they know they dont need to do much in terms of marketing atleast until its closer to release. They have insanely massive streamers/youtubers behind them. This shit aint dieing until we play it and it sucks. But I have hope that its gonna be good! Just cant wait for 2034!

    Did anyone else take notice when he was talking about marks he didn't jump onto the terrain. He climbed onto it... climbing and vaulting might be a thing. Love climbing on things I'm not supposed to in game.

    I'm surprised they're still at it and actually show proof of game play. However, I still wonder about it becoming a MMO with those taxing systems on the UE system. There has to be a solution that kinda sucks for players. But still, I was sceptic day 1 and kept that way until I delved into it again. It gives a sliver of hope.

    I made the pre-order the 23/12/18 and up till now they only offered things to buy and I have had enough.... when will be the game ready to play? It starts to be a bit obsolete already!

    Amazing progress and ideas! However, since these videos are made public, alot of triple A companies are taking their ideas and putting it in full game releases. Throne and Liberty took most of their ideas from AOC and it is amazing! AoC may become obsolete the more they make their ideas public and other companies continue to put them into fluition.

    Haven't the devs said and showed that there is the option among the settings to customize numbers appearance? is it detailed enough not only to change font appearance but also timing as was asmon's suggestion for crits persisting longer?

    When Guild Wars 2 came out, jumping puzzles were my favorite part lol.

    It's so easy to forget the full scope of their intentions with this video focused on combat. Once my brain zooms out a bit, damn, this game is going to be freaking awesome. The first full-fledged MMO in a long while.

    It would be cool if you could equip dagger on Ranger. Have a couple melee abilities like backstab and some bleeding effect for example. You engage with the root ability, hit with a dagger ability and then disengage.

    Ranger is reminding me a lot of archer from black desert, which is a good thing because that is by far the best ranger/archer class I've played in any mmo.

    Imagine how badass it would be if a Snipe is 4 sec channel, but during those 4 sec you're still popping buffs and debuffs.
