I was in a movie theatre once with a friend who has perfect pitch, and the film had a classical score (Allegro non troppo, the brilliant Italian parody of Fantasia) my friend seemed distressed, I asked what was wrong, he said "the projector is gummy" the film was running a hair slow, and every note was slightly flat. I couldn't tell, I have relative pitch, sounded fine to me, but it was driving him mad! I was finally glad not to have perfect pitch.

if you want to see him break character even more watch him learning violin if you haven't already lol. I think it's because on his own channel he usually edits out the parts where he breaks character. but when he's on twoset it is because there's editor-san!

Fun fact: the violin and bass strings are tuned to the same 4 notes, but in reverse order (ascending EADG for the bass, ascending GDAE for the violin), so on a starting level switching between the two instruments has a grip of familiarity in catching the notes on a string, while the real difficulty is passing from a string to another, since their tuning distance is a fourth on bass and a fifth on violin

Kudos to TwoSetViolin for actually learning bass. Learning bass is physically hard because those thick strings can really hurt and make large calluses on your fingers

Violin does a similar thing, so they should have some resistance
Try flat-wound strings. I have issues with nerve pain, and that has helped me, since it was painful with the round wounds. It does change the sound, mellower, less sharp but more resonant. I prefer it, though I know some people prefer the brighter sound of the round wound strings. Flat-wound strings are also pricier, but I think they will last longer. They certainly are easier on the fingertips when it comes to slides.
The violin has thin strings that can really cut into your fingers too, although in a different way; So they should have *some* calluses, though maybe not the ideal type for the bass.
@@mynvision no offense but I honestly think that you just had bad technique, If you have nerve pain from round wounds you were probably fretting downwards, You’re supposed to fret with you fretting hand flat to mute the other strings and have more endurance. Unless you’re playing chords in which notes should resonate longer

FYI Smoke On The Water is in G, LOL. They're also playing Ritchie Blackmore's part. Roger Glover held eighth note on the G and in your case it would have been an A and it would have sounded even more epic if you would have all played that together utilizing the different parts, but then again, what do I know?

I've never seen Davie so happy as now that he got his first new hos-... students in a while. The subtle smile as he points his g-... convincement power at them is amazing.
And jokes aside, I like these collabs: two (apparently) very different communities brought together by the love of music. As I don't play the bass I can't tell for sure how well TwoSet played, but I don't play the violin either and I'm a hundred percent certain Davie's performance was impressive.

I play violin and bass guitar both and I can say, that both this instruments are very cool and have their own advantages. BUT I think that violin is harder to start learning, because it's not too easy to make cool sound from it, and play correct notes. And bass is harder to learn when you already learn basics, but you want to play some harder things, and use different techniques

The subtle part of the joke is that only to those who have "tickled the ivories", using equal temperament instruments, are they always the same note. And we have three string instrument players before us, who likely all know better. (-:
@@JdeBP that is probably true. I have only ever tangled with 4 strings (ukulele) and pianos. I have of course tried guitar a few times, but on such a low level that it doesn't count...
