@@benashurov7434 It's most certainly not simulating plate armor. Literally nothing here would be a killing blow against plate armor, are you crazy? That first glancing shot to the head would've had to kill by impact, because it isn't getting through the skull. That isn't happening against plate armor because most of it would be gambeson. A spiked mace could've caused a cranial fracture, not a long sword. They would have to knock their opponent to the ground, pin him under the heavy weight, remove the armor, then kill him. This is just fake fighting using technology that is clearly going to be overhyped and under critiqued by its own.
I feel that there should be an electrical shock that registers according to hits. If you are for example struck on the shoulder there should be a continuous shock in that area that physically limits your use of that shoulder.
this would def be better if the arm was counted in all of this. the all out brawl you see here is because they are acting like they have "armor" on, because they do. but its not scored like they have armor on. idk its fun to watch but imo does not seem that real for unarmored combat.
I do. The UWM league is in hibernation... but planning to return. The parent company Chiron Global Tech is currently focusing on military & law enforcement application of the suits/tech. The original videos were pulled. My understanding is that this was done until appropriate funding/appetite from the market can be obtained.
I also thought it was an interesting sight at first... But there is a practical application. It allows the referee to hook weapons and limbs for safety & stoppages etc.
For a moment i tocht that the Ref was the next opponent. Personally think that the wooden staff that the Ref carry during a HEMA could have worked, and make the Ref look less of a Fighter more like a Ref.
Sooo any idea what happened? I know the company rebranded themselves to get into military products but does this mean they left the HEMA community high and dry? Should the few of us left waiting look elsewhere or start developing our own hit registration system?
They should add a rokoko suit and use virtual production to have a more visual of the injuries that they would have sustained basically creating a modern and safe gladiator matches
Hi there, unfortunately no. There were discussions on releasing this to TV/streaming outlets but it didn't eventuate (I still remain hopeful). Both myself and several others involved with this project have a decent amount footage - including other fights and and cool behind the scenes stuff that wasn't relased e.g. sparring with a olympic level kendoka. However, due to NDA I can't relase it. I only hope that the Chiron Global come back to this sooner rather than later (which Justin Forsell [CEO] is still very interested in doing).
@@joshuabekker1804 I guess that there is alot to overcome before it would be widely accepted by the combat sports community. Good luck to them, I remember reading about it years ago and thought I'd see what's happened to it. A little sad to see the lack of progress.
I would love to do this I've done MMA the only thing is we never used weapon I've always wanted to do A fight with weapons this looks like a sport for fighters that also love using weapons and nobody gets hurt or killed like I said I'd love to do this 😄
I hope we all get the opportunity to do so again, including yourself... For the time being the organisation are focusing on other projects. But this will definitely be coming back
Yes I saw very few blocks that you would be trying to achieve unless they are counting the armor as the medieval style armor where you basically had to pound your opponent into a pulp. I saw very few slice attacks or follow throughs on a strike whicj you would expect to be a fight ending wound on a lightly or no armored opponent. Maybe we will see different from a rapier of Katana style fighter. Be very interesting if they install 32lbs worth of servo motors so its like they are wearing no armor and the strikes can reach full force.
@@badfoody Its plastic armor, plastic swords for plastic armor. I dont have a problem with that, I have a problem with how the scoring system went, but having said that if you look at the date of the TH-cam you can see they never got the sponsor to jump on they needed to contract these guys to supply them with training armor etc so they could be ready for matches and also to continue developing the suit so they could record pressure like slashing moves which is the main move of the Katana for one, a rapier might record a kill against this armor when in real life it couldnt penetrate knights armor. Theres lots to improve and thats what happened with the UFC and look where they have taken martial arts to today.
Hard to fathom how the same people who did all the complicated work to bring this into life, were unable to see how fundamentally flawed and unwatchable this would be before it got off the drawing board.
@@sert87 I'm sure they'll start using less plasticy weapons eventually. Even in hema we use metal swords. With caution and training ofc. Their armor apparently provides even more protection by alot. This is a very early version of this sport so I'd cut it some slack.
i would prefer no armor with wooden weapon like kendo or HEMA because those sport have fear factor since kendo don't wear full armor only torso there is fear factor of you hand getting hit and for hema they use steal blunt weapon and there is a heavy fear factor in that sport.
was super hyped for this but shame it lost steam.
I hope it comes back. with customizable armor for fighters
6:50 Opponent blocking sword with his open hand? I dont think this is a good scoring system if a fighter can keep fighting with a chopped hand.
simulating plate armour
you obviously haven't watched BAKi

Cool idea but fencing buhurt kendo and hema already exist

I really like this idea. This is a suggestion that many of us also made - to increase realism, fighter hesitation etc.

This was awsome! Cant believe in 2023 there is no sign of it anyhwere. There are no new articles since 2018, why????
Because if it became as popular as mma you'd have a generation of kids learning to use swords and chopping each other to bits
i saw multiple hits on both sides that were not counted which would be killing blows in a real life fight
bad score counting
Joshua, do you know what happened to the league and the original videos? The UWM TH-cam channel disappeared from TH-cam around 2019, I think.

@@joshuabekker1804 Thank you so much for your reply, Joshua! Hope they return soon! I've been looking forward to more from UWM for years!
It doesn't make sense to wear armor and act like certain strikes are kill shots.
It should be submission or tko only.
Give it 20-30 years we will be using sharp weapons again
A man can dream!
Why is the ref armed with an axe?? Lol

Wasn't this a fun competition? The company has closed their competitive sports efforts and now make these suits for law enforcement.
Why do they need all that armour if they're fighting with plastic weapons?
Its to measure damage, not really protection.
Interesting
is this how swords are used? like plastic toys? i see no skill.

It's more entertaining this way. Besides people wore armor so often one hit wouldn't take someone down or else what is the point of armor.
