I think that anyone who is a true fan of great singers and of great singing will spit their drink out over this video, it must be literally be one of the rarest musical moments ever captured on video. This is why the audience is going so crazy throughout the piece! If I am not mistaken, the ONLY other time she used chest voice EVER was for a split second in her Spirituals Concert with Kathleen Battle from 1990, in the song "You Can Tell The World", for the words "...you can tell the nations about that" - and there, too, a wave of commotion swept over the audience right in the middle of the song! I never heard her sing live but I was SO CLOSE; I was in the audience for opening night of The Makropulos Case at the Met on January 6, 1996, but the tenor actually DIED onstage before Norman's first entrance, and the performance was canceled! This video is a rare treasure in the history of music.

If you listen to the first part of the aria from Ariadne auf Naxos she goes very low with her chest voice ( Es gibt ein Reich)
