The Wolf choreography won an award when it was first released. The boys forming the tree is a representation of the tree of life in the Exo legend as seen in the beginning of their debut video Mama. It's bittersweet as a long time Exo fan to see the boys perform Wolf without all 12 members because it is so symbolic of the original group. That being said, this new revised version gets me in the feels every time. It's almost as if it's telling the story of what happened to the group in the breakdown part. When you have the images on the screen that are synced to their dancing you see bodies being forced out at 4:51. There are three bodies (one for each member that left Kris, Luhan, and Tao). This is why the tree is slashed at the root in the next sequence. Then you see the shadow figures pacing back and forth as if in a daze on the screen behind them. The next part with Chen and Baekhyun's solo is almost like a cleansing release of the pain of losing three brothers and uncertainty of being able to continue without them. That part was created for this concert and was not a part of the original version of Wolf. In the next sequence the sakura falls (spring and renewal after a long winter). The beat comes back to the original version of Wolf as the boys re-group into a new tree formation of nine. This is why this version is so intense, goose-bump inducing, and mesmerizing. I see it this way as an Exo fan since Mama, but it speaks volumes that new reactors and watchers can get the same feeling without knowing the backstory or the groups history. It shows the level of creativity and amazing work of this group that undeniably sets them in their own unique category for so many reasons. They record their Seoul perf live. The tree of life is their iconic choreo. That is the tree of life from Mama mv. When they were 12, they formed 2 trees (as stated in their concept that tree being split into 2 [exo-k and exo-m] to protect the heart from the red force) now that they're 9 they only form 1 tree. The cave remains since that is where the wolf hides and came out shouting iiiiyah! Indeed shout out to technical people They did excellent job on this. I also love the Wolf mv but the remix version sets the bar. The vocals, the choreo, visuals, stage production. Everything.
And that is only one out of about 30 songs they performed during a 3+ hour concert. That is why Kpop is unlike anything you have ever experienced before. Can you imagine a concert that goes nonstop for 4 hours straight with stages that are all just as epic and amazing like this one!!!?! This is what makes Kpop on such another level. The amount of effort and detail they put into ever aspect of everything they do is why they are able to sell out concerts within seconds and how they are able to fill concert halls and stadiums and domes, like this one, with 37,000 people every night of every concert, and its why fans spend hundreds and thousands of dollars to attend the same concert multiple days in a row, etc.
EXO has nice music videos, but when you watch their live performances you don't have words, because they sound unreal and the connection between choreography and singing is just amaizing, in my opinion this live performance is the most iconic one from what I've seen, it's so artistical, when you think the song stop they continue, it's absurd but in a good way, that makes me think about my limits. It's my favorite live performance. I thought the original video had some big issues, and the song had some minor ones, and they just fixed it all in this performance. They do that with a few songs when it comes to rearranging live instrumentation, or even like here, adding a lengthy dance break with new music and such a big additional vocal section in the middle (and so much of it being unbroken English).
