    What a fabulous idea ! I'm going to dollar tree today for pool noodles since they have them in black for halloween. I was racking my brain for ways to also hide the pool liner around the edges.

      Thank you❣️💕 Absolutely 😊 Besides the pennywort and creeping Jenny and chocolate mint I also have spearmint, Houttuynia, parrots feather and 2 different kinds of water lilies that I’m not sure of the names of. I also have taro and fortnight lilies behind the pond and iris and watercress in a bog zone. English Ivy trails into the pond as well.

      We have a very good filtration system with two bottom drains. The bottom drains are really the key to having a crystal clear pond, plus We have both mechanical and biological filtration, and we also have UV filters.

    Thanks for the video! What about the concern with the chemicals from the whole noodle for the plants and the fish etc.? Some people say they’re not good for that just wondering thank you so much.

    • @JulieVaughn
      @JulieVaughn  11 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yikes! I actually never thought about that until you asked this question. I do inspect them regularly to make sure that they’re not breaking down and make new ones if necessary however, apparently according to Google what they are made out of does include things that aren’t so good. That being said I haven’t had any issues. All my fish are healthy. The only thing that I can think of off the top of my head that might work good as an alternative would be expanding waterfall foam, which is designed for ponds and is guaranteed to be nontoxic and fish safe. You would have to put it around the edge maybe of a pot, or squirt into pvc pipe maybe? I don’t know but now you’ve given me a new thing to ponder. I do have several cans of expanding waterfall foam so maybe I’ll put my thinking cap on and come up with another idea. Thanks for your question.

  • @klausfelsinger1113

    I had used pool noodles too but they ended up slowly soaking up water in some parts and submerging and I had to dismantle the floats. Maybe my noodles were bad quality. But I will probably use Styrofoam on the next batch.

    Do the plants help filter the water at all?

    • @JulieVaughn
      @JulieVaughn  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Plants do consume Nitrates but unless you put them in a bog filter I don’t think that they really filter anything. A lot of people that keep koi won’t have plants in with them because the plants require maintenance and create their own mess.

    • @JulieVaughn
      @JulieVaughn  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We have a few different kinds. The flat pinkish ones are Arizona flagstones. We also used large smooth river rock and small smooth river rock.

  • @jabeck116
    @jabeck116 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm wondering why you would need to add the net or anything in it? I think it would work just pushing the plant roots through the noodle.

    • @JulieVaughn
      @JulieVaughn  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My koi eat the roots so that’s why I added the netting. It gives the roots more room to grow without being disturbed. The roots still come through the netting eventually and the fish eating the roots that come out doesn’t seem to affect the health of the plants. It all depends on your fish whether or not you need the extra netting
