Beautiful! I love it! 😀
Watched a number of pool island ideas and this is by far the most simple and clever!
Thank you 😊
I love your creativity! Your pond is luscious! ❤
Thank you 😊
Brilliant idea!
What a fabulous idea ! I'm going to dollar tree today for pool noodles since they have them in black for halloween. I was racking my brain for ways to also hide the pool liner around the edges.
And that`s how you do it......fabulous and simple .
Genius Julie.
Fantastic idea, I have just completed my pond and have ordered bare root plants and baskets, I am going to give this a try and return the baskets, greetings from 🏴🇬🇧
Thank you
Very neat Idea and well done on the video.
Thank you, brilliant idea, I'm going to try this in the UK. Just need to make sure I get the right plants. Your pond is beautiful 😁
Thanks 😊
Thanks. Just what I needed to begin to fill in the edges around my "cement pond".
Your pond is beautiful and this is such a great idea! I definitely will do that when I build my ponds ☺️
Thanks 😊
GREAT JOB! I can't believe how FAST they grew in. NICE!
So beautiful !!!!
You have the most beautiful smile! I'm sitting here with a pool noodle and a new pond outside, looking for ideas. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you 😊🥰💕
That is just GENIUS! I've been scratching my head recently trying to find a solution to a problem that you have just solved. Thank you so much for that. Declan in Ireland

Your pond is beautiful and your koi 😍. I am making my floating planter today. I have butterfly koi, but mine are not as big as yours. Thank you for sharing your tutorial.
Hi Julie, your koi pool is grand ❤. where is your growing zone? Your lily is so huge. I will definitely try the noodle planting. Thank you !!!!
Thanks 😊 I’m in California in zone 10
Beautiful
Gonna attempt this
Neat idea and execution. Beware tall plants.
Could you please tell us the names of the other plants that are floating in your pond? What a marvelous presentation it is.
Thank you❣️💕 Absolutely 😊 Besides the pennywort and creeping Jenny and chocolate mint I also have spearmint, Houttuynia, parrots feather and 2 different kinds of water lilies that I’m not sure of the names of. I also have taro and fortnight lilies behind the pond and iris and watercress in a bog zone. English Ivy trails into the pond as well.
How do you control the mint growth? Creeping Jenni also? Is it easier in water than on land?
Love your plant selections..ideas n..ohhh that pond.n black cats!! N..how are u keeping your water sooo crystal clear!! We just hit..finally spring..although..still chilly..but my pond is murky and we are trying to clear up!!! I am going to do alot of ideas!!! Ty for these!!!
We have a very good filtration system with two bottom drains. The bottom drains are really the key to having a crystal clear pond, plus We have both mechanical and biological filtration, and we also have UV filters.
Did you say you had a link to purchase the black noodles? I cannot find it. So cool and I can’t wait to build my own.
I think these were the ones I bought on Amazon www.amazon.com/Oodles-Noodles-Foam-Pool-Swim/dp/B01LXXPIQI/ref=sr_1_3_sspa?crid=1O3VZ1E72BI6J&keywords=Black+pool+noodles&qid=1686428889&sprefix=black+pool+noodles+%2Caps%2C179&sr=8-3-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzQ01ZUE1KWEIwQURPJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNDE5MzE0Mkg2SFRVMEdHVk1USyZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNzQwOTg2MVNRSVkzNDFIUU8wSSZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=
@@JulieVaughn Oh boy, what is it that Amazon doesn't have? It has me hooked! 😅
Just subscribed to your channel 👍
@@JulieVaughnThanks Julie! I clicked on your Amazing Amazon link. They have a nice variety of colors of Noodles.
That's smart.
KoiRun thanks 😊
I really like this Idea. I think this year I will implement this idea to put a ring around the outside of my pond. Its an odd shape.
where did you find black pool noodles?
Amazon! 😎
Thank you for the tutorial very helpful ♥️🙏🏽👍🏽 what plantas are you using ?
I’m using pennywort, creeping Jenny, chocolate mint and Houttuynia. This also works well with water hyacinth, water lettuce and parrots feather
Thanks for the video! What about the concern with the chemicals from the whole noodle for the plants and the fish etc.? Some people say they’re not good for that just wondering thank you so much.
Yikes! I actually never thought about that until you asked this question. I do inspect them regularly to make sure that they’re not breaking down and make new ones if necessary however, apparently according to Google what they are made out of does include things that aren’t so good. That being said I haven’t had any issues. All my fish are healthy. The only thing that I can think of off the top of my head that might work good as an alternative would be expanding waterfall foam, which is designed for ponds and is guaranteed to be nontoxic and fish safe. You would have to put it around the edge maybe of a pot, or squirt into pvc pipe maybe? I don’t know but now you’ve given me a new thing to ponder. I do have several cans of expanding waterfall foam so maybe I’ll put my thinking cap on and come up with another idea. Thanks for your question.
I had used pool noodles too but they ended up slowly soaking up water in some parts and submerging and I had to dismantle the floats. Maybe my noodles were bad quality. But I will probably use Styrofoam on the next batch.
Do the plants help filter the water at all?
Plants do consume Nitrates but unless you put them in a bog filter I don’t think that they really filter anything. A lot of people that keep koi won’t have plants in with them because the plants require maintenance and create their own mess.
Where did you get the netting?
Amazon.
Where do you get the coconut fiber
A garden center or nursery or Amazon. It comes in sheets and rounds and loose too.
Can you tell me the stones used for your pond?
We have a few different kinds. The flat pinkish ones are Arizona flagstones. We also used large smooth river rock and small smooth river rock.
I'm wondering why you would need to add the net or anything in it? I think it would work just pushing the plant roots through the noodle.
My koi eat the roots so that’s why I added the netting. It gives the roots more room to grow without being disturbed. The roots still come through the netting eventually and the fish eating the roots that come out doesn’t seem to affect the health of the plants. It all depends on your fish whether or not you need the extra netting
@@JulieVaughn oh okay that makes sense.
Hi Julie, What are the names of your plants? Can these plants survive the winter?
Hello. Thanks for your comment. I’m using Pennywort, Chocolate mint and Houttuynia. I also have Creeping Jenny. Mine overwinter just fine here in California as our winters are mild but it depends on your climate.
@@JulieVaughn Thank you Julie for the information. I live near Los Angeles so hopefully the temperature is not too muchh different.
@@quangphan4214 it’s even warmer where you are. I’m closer to San Francisco so those plants will do great where you live
