  • While many in the pick-up passenger vehicle (PPV) class are facelifts or updates, there are two that are new generation models: the Isuzu mu-X and the Ford Everest. For this comparo, we're looking at the top of the line variants of both, and in 4x4. Will Vince have a hard time breaking it down with two cars at once? Let's find out!

I don't understand why the manufacturers still place the water intake in that location. Many people don't realise that if you go through the water faster (even if you're within the prescribed wading depth) the wake formed in front of the car could rise up to the bonnet line and into the intake. That could lead to hydrolocking the engine and potentially catastrophic engine failure.
I strongly recommend installing a snorkel if crossing streams is part of your adventure.

Yesss, two of the best PPVs ever. The MU-X is a total choice if diesel is your poison. But when it comes to styling, tech and overall comfort, the Everest can outwit the MU-X. This is like X7 against GLS, in a sense that the SUV landscape is constantly evolving.

@@monopolarmaster4262 No! Just look at the Australian headlines. Most buyers of Ford Rangers and Everests 2023 are already filing lawsuits because of their transmission issues. Also, from my experience buying brand new fords, 2 hatches (tcm and battery problems) and 1 pickup ( diesel injector and diesel pump problems) between 2010 to 2014. Ford = Lemon Cars.

  • @Tleilaxu_Mentat
    @Tleilaxu_Mentat ปีที่แล้ว +11

Hmm, your fuel efficiency tests doesn't seem to match those made by other local reviewers that show that the MU-X is more fuel efficient than the Everest. One review has the Everest doing only around 7.5 km/L in urban driving while the MU-X did almost 10 km/L in comparable traffic conditions. That relatively tiny bi-turbo engine on the Everest is peaky, boost-reliant & has a very narrow powerband, I don't see how it can be more fuel-efficient even with that unnecessarily-complicated 10-speed transmission. On the other hand, that Isuzu engine already achieves most of its torque a few hundred RPM above idle, and sustains its peak torque far longer, and the transmission gearing is better spaced so there's no unnecessary shifting & gear hunting.
As for standard features & offroad firmware programming, I'd give the edge to the Ford, but I'd give the long-term reliability, aftersales support & parts availability to the Isuzu. How many Everest owners would use their vehicles off-road anyway, so that theoretical advantage isn't a big deal. The long-standing reputations of both brands precede them. Isuzu engines have a B10 reliability rating of at least 500,000 kilometers, while the newer engines have an even longer B10 rating of 600,000 kilometers. I doubt that overstressed Ford engine can even reach 100K kms without encountering any problems. Just ask former owners. That Fix Or Repair Daily reputation didn't come out of thin air.
That 4JJ3-TCX engine is also intentionally tuned conservatively, ECU reflashed MU-Xs in Australia routinely make 300+hp & 750+Nm of torque, while that tiny 2.0L engine on the Ford is already too strained & has little headroom for ECU tuning.
It's no surprise that in Australia the MU-X is the sales leader for years, easily beating the Fortuners, Everests & Monteros.
Same story in Thailand where both the MU-X and D-Max beats the Everest & Fortuner, and Ranger & Hi-Lux, respectively, in sales.

If I really have to choose between these two, I'd rather go MU-X. Isn't too advanced nor bare in today's standards which is a good formula for long-term durability and reliability. Tho I'd wait for the updated model launched in TH than this since that already has the more appealing look, together with a fin-type antenna (yikes at the pole-type version in here) and should have lesser cost-cutting tactics with the features (too much blank buttons) to be more suitable for the 2.5M asking price.
Never gonna opt for the Everest. Very sketchy electronics in the long run. Goodluck with that
If I really am in the market for a 4WD PPV tho, I'd go Montero Sport GT 4WD. For 2.3M you get a bit more notable features(like 2 difflocks, ehem Isuzu) than the MU-X for a lesser price, but isn't as too much as the Everest yet almost as comfy.

4x4 with no lockers. Sure we all know 99% of these will barely see dirt and if they do barely anyone knows how to use lockers, but why bother putting on a 4x4 system when they already know competition is already tight as it is.
You lose the lockers yet it isn't felt in the price. To think people who'd buy these will want all the bells and whistles

You are literally comparing reliability(isuzu) vs. Unreliability(ford). That's what it is... The reality.

#1 in diesel. Isuzu all the way.Pag ang ford maningil baka bawiin mo lahat ng papuri sa ford. 🤣 Matic na yan for longe term ownership isuzu at toyota. If i have a 2.5M hard earned money i will choose isuzu #1 is peace of mind. Commonsense will tell you 3.0 vs 2.0 belt vs timing chain.

Ridiculous prices. For that much money you could stretch a little bit and go a segment higher to like, an Explorer or a more premium brand like Lexus.

LOL @ those spec sheet monkeys choosing cars like they choose mobile phones. No kids, these aren't things you upgrade every year to get some incremental increase in some category. How limp-wristed do you have to be to want a very light steering wheel? Don't skip arm day, kiddos. After all, you're not driving a kart. Why do you need a sunroof in a tropical country with polluted urban air? Where & when would you open it? It's just an unnecessary feature that adds to the production expense, lessens chassis rigidity, and increases injury & damage risk from rollovers. A touchscreen interface to control even vital car functions? What if the screen gets damaged due to usage, heat & aging? If there are no hard buttons/dials/levers how would you operate those vital functions then? Do you know how common touchscreen digitizer repairs are for mobile phones? And how do you safely operate it while driving, it's just another needless distraction. Vital car functions should always have hard interfaces for safety & reliability. Very little of those Ford features are really compelling & necessary.
