Award Winning Indie Game | THE NEXUS Release Trailer (Inspired by Enter The Gungeon). Created by two 16 year old students in the game engine Godot with a dream, for my school game design course.
We won Callaghan Innovation awards for this game at a University Technology Fair presentation!
The Nexus, is a dystopic rogue-like top-down pixel art shooter, inspired by amazing games such as Hades and Synthetik and Enter The Gungeon.

About the game:
To save the world from a rogue supercomputer, you must make it to the city centre to destroy it. The catch: you can only survive breathing air on the surface for 1 hour. Fight through procedurally generated rooms, full of robots that hunt you down with their powerful AI. Dodge toxic puddles, fire traps, explosive barrels strewn through the environment, and avoid the streams of bullets, lasers and missiles fired at you by your robotic oppressors! Search for upgrades, medkits and unlock a greater arsenal of weapons to utilise in your brave fight. Every time you die, you are cloned and get to try again, keeping any upgrades or unlocks you made in your prior life

IMPROVEMENTS + CHANGES:
We have audio now! It was a massive job, but over 50 sound effects and pieces of ambience are now in the game, giving you a much more responsive experience than the silent treatment in the previous version!
New Dangers new environmental hazards have been introduced watch out for fire traps and explosive barrels
Bullet ricochets have been introduced to spice things up
A new slow-motion ability has also been added, so you can right-click to focus and slow everything down!
Weapon rebalancing and tweaks across the board, as well as a brand new laser rifle and a secret superweapon for those of you eager enough to reach the end!
A brand new upgrade system has been introduced so that you can make your character stronger and stronger with each attempt (you maintain the upgrades you choose/receive even after dying!)
2 epic new stages (suburbs & city) + redone stage 1 (outskirts)
Improvements to lighting, particle effects and other in-engine stuff
2 brand new enemies - a missile bot and a laser bot! The tank bot was also completely redone to make it more enjoyable.
Overall AI improvements to make all the enemies more robust and interesting
Double the amount of art from Sprint 2, with all kinds of cool custom animations, effects and brand-new content!
Improved, much more functional hub area
Revamped tutorial section (much better onboarding and explanations)
Added much more lore - a game-ending and boss fight have been introduced!
Procedural level generation updated to provide a much more concise and varied experience (each stage is half the length it used to be, making each playthrough faster, more unique and more enjoyable!)
Performance optimisation to make all the cool stuff still run decently
A sick 12 Song OST (composed by nervous_testpilot, These Young Anarchists and Kensuke Ushio)

Really happy to finally be finishing up such a mammoth project! Creating a game really is no joke hahaha
