Many people treat grief as a pathology , something we ‘go through’ then , after a certain amount of time we’re expected to somehow move on. I really believe the grandma losing her vision is a sign of her gaining true sight. Like some oracles in ancient Greece. That explains why she felt the presence.
I really appreciate the fact that the closing doors didn’t lock. It’s such a nice change of pace when the door is just slammed shut and you can just open it since whatever is doing it is just trying to give you a scare. It gives that on edge feeling and not some “wait for something to happen” or “trigger something to unlock the door.” A real kudos to this game for keeping things fresh and not constantly using old indie horror game tropes.
Yeah, definitely a language issue: If a person kills another person in legitimate response to deadly force against another, it's probably defense of others, not murder, which requires malice aforethought. If she killed four people at the same time (and that's all), then it's a mass murder, not a serial killing.
Yeah to me the definition of serial killer is well, killing people for a long period of time, like one each month or something (?) Also the constant pattern that makes the killer recognizable.
Yes, so glad someone pointed this out! Like the reply above says, the FBI defines serial killing as multiple murders committed usually with a month or more in between, each committed as separate events. It's a small distinction, but with how much they talk about her being a "serial killer" it does impact our understanding of the story
I'd fucking pay them too. I can probably count on one hand the number of horror games that used psychological trauma well and didn't wield it like a fucking sledgehammer. I am concerned that they introduced the possibility of demon possession so early in the game though as that's usually their "red herring" so they can go "GOTCHA!!! Your dad was mean and you were crazy all along! Didn't see that coming did you? ...did you? .....................Q_Q did you?"
I think I speak for the long term fans when I say that you've always been on point with your game reviews and honest feedback. That's why I keep coming back. Maybe some of the game developers are finally starting to listen...
Not gonna lie, just started playing this and I realised it’s been a while since I felt genuinely unsettled by a horror game. I’m loving it! Glad to see you play it John!
I like it for a psychological horror game, like John said it's not doing the "forced to hang out and wait" thing, it's giving loads of puzzles so there's actually stuff to do and work your brain on (the puzzles and the way the house looks was actually reminding me of RE 7, I totally forgot about Visage), and it's not really over-the-top (coming fresh off The Fridge is Red, which was super over the top with the gore and attempts to shock that just fell flat). I like the statue looking like it's getting yanked around and the weird red figure on the wall near Grandpa's office. The protagonist is a little bit of a weenie and it's a little annoying to have him keep interrupting to talk and sound so spooked over something obvious, but it could be a realistic response and I guess they wanted him to react to things so he feels more like a real character. I want to see more of how it shakes out though!
Yes! The "fucking statue!" is from Revelations 2. After you give the Prometheus statue his liver, it blows up and knocks Claire & Moira down. Moira decides to loudly voice her displeasure lmao. I'm so happy you remembered that, Rev 2 is one of my favorite RE games. Anyway, I'm having a lot of fun watching you play this, John. I'm pleasantly surprised with this one so far. Can't wait to see more!

I gotta say that I really appreciate the consideration you take when it comes to accessibility, like including the flashing light/epilepsy warning right at the start of the video, and in the demo you'd mentioned hoping for subtitles in the full game, which makes me happy since I'm hearing impaired and rely on them! In interest of accessibility, can I also request that you unclick the box labeled "do not display potentially inappropriate words" in the caption settings in TH-cam Studio, so that auto-captions stop censoring swear words? Thank you so much!! Also, this was so fun to watch, I love your commentary so much and can't wait for more!

Lotta comments complaining about the voice acting, mainly that he "sounds like he's about to cry". I mean, he's apparently 16 according to his birthday gift, and is part of some psychotic shit... I think the voice actor did a great job. He sounds genuinely terrified.
I kept seeing other TH-camrs play this game and I couldn't wait for John to do a playthrough because I wanted his commentary with it, the perfect combo lol So glad he did! :D
This game has nice unsettling atmosphere, neat pacing and somewhat inventive puzzles, but the scares themselves are... okay-ish? Things like someone standing at the end of the hallway quivering or someone peeking around the corner as you going their way are a bit cliche at this point. Random meaningless noises add nothing. The well sequence at times is more awkward than scary, as is statue moving, and Madison's (?) design is just generic spooky naked lady horror antagonist. I wish horror devs were more inventive with the horror tbh
At one point, I want that cliché "something darts across the hall" thing to happen. You walk over, look, it's there, it leaps out and gets you. That would actually be refreshing at this point.
This game was scientifically proven to be the scariest game ever - literally - the problem is that you watched John play it 😅 he laughs and talks through ALL the tension building and jumps, he totally ruins any atmosphere this game is trying to build 😂
Appreciate the warning for the flashing lights. My wife and I enjoy your videos and the lights do mess with her eplisey. The heads up helps us prepare and we can still fully enjoy the video. Glad more games and tv/movies are including these now. Also, great video. 👍
I was pretty sure that the mechanic was “if there is a Polaroid in the environment, take a picture of that area” based off of the first one with the painting, and then the three one the wall with the symbols on it shortly after, and then the scattered ones all over the floor? I think that was the normal mode setting vs hard? I only had time to get 30 minutes in, so maybe I’m wrong. Looking forward to watching more at breakfast tomorrow
I'm really intrigued by this one! Like you said it's actually more puzzle focused akin to an RE game or even Amnesia for a non combat comparison. It's not just wait for jumpscares to happen stimulator. The story seems to be different than most games that are def inspired by PT so that's really refreshing. Can't wait for the next part!
Sharing my thoughts here 'cause why not lol I think what works for this game is the intense atmosphere and in combination with the scripted events, the player feels a sense of tension/fear. That part is done really well. However, there are some aspects of the game that take people like me away from the experience. 1) The voice of the protag could have been made sparingly scared. Instead he constantly sounds like a wimp which makes him annoying. 2) The random ambience noises like John pointed out really take away from the experience. I think the devs could have used them more sparingly. The protag reacting to the audio files is a good addition though and I think more games should try for that.
Its nice to see that a game that had a demo four years ago still managed to come out polished up! I know it gets a little goofy later on but still pretty cool! Thanks for the video John and Editor! (Max?)

To answer your question: No, Mercury is not blue, but grey. I believe the image they're using here to represent Mercury is a color map used to show various terrain features and impact zones. But Mercury's true color, at least as seen by the human eye, would be grey. Also: Justice for Pluto! 😠
Just as many generations between Boomer and Millenial as there are between Millenial and Alpha U guys literally are the new boomers, and yes, usually those of millennial age find those guys funny. But they are still funny to younger ppl

Oddly enough, TH-cam recommended your old video of this game just the other day, which I watched. Looks like the dev actually worked on it because it seems to move faster.
I feel like this game takes the visage formula and improves upon the areas that visage failed at. I didn’t mind visage but there were times playing that game where I was just bored waiting for stuff to happen. But I haven’t seen all of this yet, so I’ll save my praise until then.
Madison looks decent. The really horrible "spooky house" sound effects in the background are driving me insane, though. It reminds of those tapes you could buy back in the day that was all "scary" sounds that played at random on loop. Not even remotely mood setting.
Completely "sane" character in game: "the first thing you wanna do if a demon possesses you is give it what it wants" Same character: can't tell a dead ghost/poltergeist from a living demon It's gonna be one of those games lmao. Looks like a fun puzzle game though and I kinda find such wildly inaccurate information pretty funny, since at this point we have no clue if the guy on the tapes is outta his mind or the protag is and only thinks that's what it says. I guess we'll see ^^' but it does seem interesting so I'll stick around to see where it goes as well
Idk if John made his cam smaller or something but it’s a lot better and more immersive for the game. Although I still love and prefer floating head John.

It's called building to the Good stuff
This game was scientifically proven to be the scariest game ever - literally - the problem is that you watched John play it 😅 he laughs and talks through ALL the tension building and jumps, he totally ruins any atmosphere this game is trying to build 😂
John if I took a shot for every time an Indie horror game did those things I be dead
I always point out when I'm getting "Layered" in my day to day activities. If anyone looks at me funny, I just exclaim "That's so Space Jam."
I expected to see a comment from someone named Madison but I guess I’m the only one…
Edit: I did not kill my whole family in a witchcraft ceremony
Appreciate the warning for the flashing lights. My wife and I enjoy your videos and the lights do mess with her eplisey. The heads up helps us prepare and we can still fully enjoy the video. Glad more games and tv/movies are including these now. Also, great video. 👍
John's Stefon joke has officially made my day.
22:57 when i saw this place i was just going to say that the house looks very similar to visage house John took the words out of my mouth
I'm so glad other people recognized it lol. It looks like they just altered the model imo
"Hey guys, it's John."
Music to my fucking ears.
Sharing my thoughts here 'cause why not lol
I think what works for this game is the intense atmosphere and in combination with the scripted events, the player feels a sense of tension/fear.
(Max?)
> April 1, 1972 "I woke up in the middle of the night... Again... I swear there was someone staring at me in the corner of the room..."
> April 3, 1972 "Johnny is still laughing from the April Fool's prank he pulled on me two days ago now, I swear to Beelzebub I'll dismember that boy by 1987"
John: "Life before the internet, am I right?"
they really took flashing images to a whole new level, headache alert
the game is pretty interesting so far but oh my god the voice actor sounds like he's busting one every other time he speaks, its so funny
Mr Wolfe, I have to agree with your summary of the game so far. Let’s hope it keeps doing the right things to keep you/us wanting more every upload. Let’s gooo💯
Wolfe: Did you get only one present for your Birthday?
Me: _sobs inside in no presents at all for at least five or more years_
Same
Yaay thank you so much John. I really hope that you're having a great weekend and also wishing the same for Kimmy, friends, family and doggo ❤️. Thank you, really wanted to watch something, after a stresfull moment and you always seems to know when a video is really needed ❤️.
king ! your hair looks so voluminous and bouncy im jealous haha ! also this game so far is super good!! im just praying it doesn’t go down the mental illness route :(
I'm guessing Madison died and her spirit became a demon and she possessed you? Idk, but the game is looking cool!
Got this game when it came out yesterday. Love the picture taking mechanic and I am so excited to hear what John thinks!!!
Before I watch this video I have to say… John your hair is fucking amazing.
Honestly Johns granny voice is actually pretty good.
I love that John immediately shot down the news article... "Wiccan or satanist cmon guys" 😂
the jump scares interrupting john was so funny 😭
Ive been waiting to see how many of my fav youtubers play this game! I got it right when it came out and so far its such a great game! Looking forward to seeing where this story leads though . Love the picture taking mechanic !🙂
John. You upload this video July 9th. In 1816, that day was our Independence Day. An honour you called Argentina as we do. Love you, and Argentina too
To answer your question: No, Mercury is not blue, but grey. I believe the image they're using here to represent Mercury is a color map used to show various terrain features and impact zones. But Mercury's true color, at least as seen by the human eye, would be grey. Also: Justice for Pluto! 😠
John Wolfe is my go-to for scary games, I can’t do em’ 😅😅
I love your grandma voice SO much, lol. it's almost ASMR
18:38 Did... Did he just refer to Bill Hader and John Mulaney as boomer humor? Them's fightin' words.
Just as many generations between Boomer and Millenial as there are between Millenial and Alpha
U guys literally are the new boomers, and yes, usually those of millennial age find those guys funny. But they are still funny to younger ppl
I appreciate the Bloober Team jokes... I honestly think their games are goofy. Oh no..... the hallway i just walked through is now gone.. soo scary lol
I also didn’t get down with the pace of visage, this game so far seems better paced and any game that reminds me a bit of resident evil 7 has my attention. Also appreciate the commentary
Visage was bruuutal. It was a punishing experience.
Oddly enough, TH-cam recommended your old video of this game just the other day, which I watched. Looks like the dev actually worked on it because it seems to move faster.
that "ARGENTINA" pronunciation was spot on, muy bien John lobitooooo
I feel like this game takes the visage formula and improves upon the areas that visage failed at. I didn’t mind visage but there were times playing that game where I was just bored waiting for stuff to happen. But I haven’t seen all of this yet, so I’ll save my praise until then.
JOHN!? liking psychological horror!? Who is this man, and what have you done with JOHN!?
Very entertaining so far. Thank you for playing, John.
Madison looks decent. The really horrible "spooky house" sound effects in the background are driving me insane, though. It reminds of those tapes you could buy back in the day that was all "scary" sounds that played at random on loop. Not even remotely mood setting.
Halloween spooky house music for trick or treaters 🤣🤣
Omg I’m so excited about this. I saw superhorrorbro play it and I instantly said “John has to play this”.
The main voice actor always sounds like he's about to cry.
Completely "sane" character in game: "the first thing you wanna do if a demon possesses you is give it what it wants"
Same character: can't tell a dead ghost/poltergeist from a living demon
It's gonna be one of those games lmao.
